    I thought it was his guilt over lying to Endicott in the first place, making him feel like he didn't DESERVE such a tidy resolution, that lead to him tossing the coins.

    • @Storyograph
      @Storyograph  2 года назад +4

      That's more or less what I'm thinking too. But what kind of intrigues me is how this story beat might play into his entire character arc. Like when he gives back the rock at the very end. It's something I might end up exploring later...

    The tea mogul has more of an obvious character arc than the protagonist in this episode.

    • @Storyograph

      It’s true! Wirt only has about one character beat in this episode, but its an important one. Wirt opening up to Beatrice, really cements their friendship.

    Another great video! One thing I've not seen other theories address is what the hell the black turtles are and what they mean, im curious if you have any theories

    • @Storyograph
      @Storyograph  2 года назад +2

      Its a good question! (One I'm actually planning on opening up to the comments in a few videos) Pat McHale said there really was nothing to them other than to be a deliberate imperfection in the story to make it feel folksier. (I'm paraphrasing a lot there) It was ultimately an aesthetic choice to bring them in. So there's probably not much intentional meaning to go on. But in my own head-canon, the turtles are a sort of force of darkness in nature. Turning the dog into a ravenous wolf. Turning the sweet auntie whispers into a strange-looking thing, who might be needlessly holding a girl prisoner because she loves her. Perhaps not fully evil, but the "id". The baser impulses of nature.

    Ok, so please hear me out on this one. It's not super far-fetched, but it's not the strongest theory for Greg tossing the coins. This also has spoilers for those who haven't watched the ending, or aren't familiar with the ending, so please keep that in mind. Now, at the end of the show, we find out that the boys climbed over a wall in the town cemetery, while running away from the patrol officer. When they got over the wall, they unfortunately tumbled and fell directly into a stream or body of water, and both nearly drowned. My theory is steaming off from this moment, and a few spots just before that. Wart has some level of dislike towards Greg, in the beginning of the show. Not hate, he still loves him, but the annoyance siblings have. It's a little stronger than that and may even come off as resentment towards Greg. I think Greg senses that. He's naive, but he is still aware of his surroundings and people's emotions. I think he can tell him, and Wart are falling apart, or that Wart is trying to grow up more without him, and it hurts the little guy. That's why he wants to spend time with him and go on adventures together, while he can. Relating this to the coin, and the near drowning, I believe the boys are sharing a dream or unconscious vision while they are drowning. Almost like they were knocked into the same alternate reality while potentially dying. While in this shared dream, this being where the show takes place in the woods, Greg is able to spend as much time as he wants with Wart, and seemingly forever. He creates small distractions and bumps to prolong the journey when he can. For the coin incident, there does seem to be a bit of anger when he throws it, almost like he knows things are almost done in this journey. Soon the trip will end, they will get home, and life will continue where the two drift apart. In a stitch to make things keep going, he throws the coins and makes it more difficult for the two to get out of the woods. Eventually at the end of the story, I additionally believe Greg sees how much of a hassle he has caused and makes a sacrifice to help get Wart home. Ultimately, he just wants Wart to be happy, and if he could protect and save him, he would do it. Almost dying in the process, but still doing so. They do end up leaving the woods, Wart sees how much he cares for Greg, even with his quips and quirks, and then their relationship could get better. It took two near death instances, but he saw it eventually.

      That's a pretty nice take on it! I feel like it's consistent with Greg's story arc of "goofing off" too much. If it were a longer show, it might have been worth developing that kind of story arc.

    as I grew up, this episode become more and more nonsensical
    1. they are so rich, but they had no servant whatsoever lol, who cooked the meal then? are they ghost? the one thing people should know about big large mansion is that they needed like 100 servants to run it literally. for example : he would have a butler, a valet ( people who help put on his clothes), dozens of housemaids, chef, undercook, chamber maid, scullery maid, dozen footman ( like a waiter who stand around to pull your chair, change you meal course, pour the wine, tidy things up, prepare your newspaper, lit up the candle around the house)
    2. Mansion/ country houses were built on a huge plot of land, so it is very very very unlikely that they could ever be connected unless they were 5km long or more, which again is impossible.
    3. Country houses were usually built periodically, so it's not weird for 1 house to have different interior or architecture, I guess that's why Endicot wasn't too surprise to see French Rococo architecture in "his home", it's basically the same period, the architecture might just built it in the latest style by the architect to reflect the latest interior trend, the French style did have prominence toward the late Georgian, for example: Dining room usually in Georgian style, Music Room French style or Italian, Drawing Room usually French style, Smoking room or masculine room Georgian.
    I guess they were just ghosts or forgotten soul/tale idk lol.

      Personally i like to believe they're not explicitly ghost or spirits (though they may very well be.) I feel like the Unknown is a place outside of usual logic, and many questions we have about it, can't be answered with clear explanations because much of it is "unknown". That's not to say the show was written haphazardly. As far as I'm concerned, even if the show doesn't always make perfect sense, it _feels_ like it does. And I think that's the feeling its going for. That's just my take.
