I so enjoyed your reaction of this singing master, So Hyang. She perhaps has more vocal tools than any other female singer on earth. She can sing anything, soft or belting, She is known for her mixed belting, but I agree, it is her mastery of dynamics that really sets her apart. This was a pretty tame performance of hers. She is so incredible live that it is mind boggling. 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' and 'I Have Nothing' are huge numbers, but her Begin Again (COVID concerts) songs like this, examples: 'Misty', 'Flashlight', 'I Won't Give Up', 'If I Ain't Got You', and many more are more stripped down like this, showcasing her incredible dexterity. All these performers sitting beside So Hyang are virtuoso musicians. The man next to her is Henry Lau, who is an amazing instrumentalist, songwriter, and singer in his own right. His music video 'Believer' (10M views) is worth a listen. The younger performers (So Hyang is now in her 40's and the others in their 20's) all talk about sharing the same space when she sings and how it effects them in an almost magical way. When Sohyang sang, Sohyang was suffering from pneumonia, but she just sang it because of her schedule.. That's how sick it is..If you sing when you are healthy, you sing like a real angel
She is the Queen of belting, hard to hear it with this song but react to her singing You Raise Me Up.
The improvised section was when Sohyang used her voice where there is a saxephone solo in the original. You have stumbled on one of the finest vocalists in the world.
Sohyang is special. I wish everyone knew who she was, but that’s just not important to her. So it’s always good to have new people find her and appreciate her incredible talent. I sincerely hope you go down this rabbit hole and enjoy the greatest female singer on the planet.
It was a windy out side, sunny day, minimal instrument.. but she just nailed it with delicacy!! You need to check out her version of Bridge over troubled water(Immortal song)! It's an EPIC!

Delicate or powerful, Sohyang's voice is here to nurture the soul and soothe the heart. There have been numerous vocal pros who commented on Sohyang's technical vocal proficiency. It was nice to hear your commentary on dynamic, expression, and texture of the music, more from a singer's perspective. This is actually a more understated Sohyang performance if you get to know her better.
OMG!! You have absolutely no idea what you’ve got yourself into, ink the best female singer on the planet. You are right that she can sing anything & there are video’s available to prove this & she can even rap!! If you want someone to tell you a story by insane vocals, DYNAMICS & a level of emotion that you don’t see often, then sohyang is the one.
This is even more impressive because it is live like you said, it was windy & it was very hot & they were sat on the dockside.
Sohyang doesn’t do bad performances so please take advice on what to watch next from her from those sohyang fans that will probably send you a list of recommendations, along with the links,because there are a few who very kindly give them to people experiencing sohyang for the first time.
She does her own arrangements so if she’s doin a cover of a song you’re already familiar with you will be able to appreciate the changes more. Just because she has the ability to change things doesn’t mean that she always changes things, she will only make changes if she feels it enhances or makes the song better, which leads to some songs only altering slightly from the original & others been barely unrecognisable, dependent on the song.
I would say, having followed this angel for 7 yrs or so, that like myself, many peoples first experience of sohyang is either ‘bridge over troubled water’ or ‘arirang alone’, both from the immortal songs show. I would also say that watching her video’s via ‘Vimeo’ for her songs in Korean you may find helpful as they usually provide eng subs, however I must also say that one of her great gifts to us is that many reactors, me inc.,find that you do not have to have the lyrics in front of you to get sohyangs mess’g, she can emote thru a song like no other & has had me in tears many times, even when I have no idea of the lyrics, in fact many people will tell you that they have been so mesmerised by her performance that they don’t even look at the subs, they become irrelevant,so don’t ever avoid those songs in Korean because you will be missing out on so much pleasure for your ears😂😂.
You should also read her back story which will explain why she sings as she does & why she’s not the worldwide superstar her voice surely merits ( all the big record companies have tried to get sohyang on board & she has always refused, choosing to do things on her terms & at her own pace).
Finally, if Dimash is regarded as ‘king’ when it comes to vocals then congratulations!! you have now been introduced to the lady who is widely thought of as his ‘queen’.
Strap in tight because you are about to embark on the ride of your life, a ride you will never want to get off.

when you get chance to watch sohyangs "everyone" ..your ceiling for what a singer artist can reach will be blown literally off this planet..I've Heard other vocal coaches say, they will retire after hearing that level of vocals. pls react to sohyangs everyone..she said it was hardest song for her to sing due to technicality. I really believe anyone who considers themselves to be a singer should watch all of Sohyangs performances, it's like free vocal coaching of the highest standard.i hope you you take the opportunity to delve into her catalogue and as a singer you owe it to yourself to check out Everyone which is by far the best vocal performance by a female I have ever seen.
Imagine for a second… the gasps from the others was because they knew Sohyang was sick with pneumonia at that time and knew she couldn’t sing with ANY vocal closure and that plan was to do head voice only type easy singing at the time. But what do you expect from the GOAT.

Kim So Hyang is a South Korean gospel singer active since the late 1990's. She is a world-class vocalist. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion are among her influences, but she has surpassed them all in my view. "Arirang Alone", "I Have Nothing", "Misty", "The Power Of Love", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and "Everyone", are among her many great live performances.
