it's nice but you can see how the web swinging system as a whole isn't really catered towards the 0 swinging assist because of how magnetic the drop is towards the ground when you're low enough... there's also inconsistent means to keep up the momentum while going dropping to the ground since I've noticed that sometimes Spidey won't do a follow up jump when hitting the ground... they shouldve taken the follow up jump that is unique to the 0 swing assist like in TASM 1 movie game where, if you're close enough to the ground while web-swinging, spidey would then do a unique jump follow up to keep the momentum going to keep the player engaged enough while web-swinging... what Insomniac showed us with the 0 swing assist is way too punishing for the wrong reasons because it basically teaches you to not get too close to the ground because the force of Insomniac will make you drop to the ground... this is why they should just have a mode like Sam Raimi's SM2 game where theres the casual web-swinging vs the pro web-swinging because as much as the web-swinging has improved within the accessibility... i feel like Insomniac should go all out with their web-swinging system to the maximum and then you can prioritise getting to the ground close enough but grinding on the ground while web-swinging but you'll still need to watch out for obstacles in the way, why not do it at the rooftops and the side of the buildings since previous games like WoS allowed you to grind your hand and run across at the side of a building while holding the web in your other hand.

Why tho? You can climb buildings and that’s what the webs usually attach to. Climbing the webs that’s right next to the building is just extra. You can hang down ceiling and go up and down so there’s that 🤷🏻♂️
They made the "Hand-Holding" system to make swinging like if it's streight from the movies in the ways it looks... but being pure PHYSICS based is what made the swinging scenes in the movies look so good. Especially in the TASM movies. They made a right choice.
I'm glad they chose this it shows how hard it is to try and swing in real life even with a super abled body. Peter probably has to do massive calculations mid swing even with spider sense.

I've learned to not fight the momentum, but rather swing with it. I also use smaller swings when I'm close to the ground as well so I don't hit the floor so much either.

This is so true, this is imo the best way to swing and also to not use anything to cheat gaining height and momentum; pointlaunch, wings, webzip, X jump boost etc. It just feels right and you actully have to build momentum yourself and just like in the TASM movies when you keep doing tricks and getting those not-so-controlled beautiful pendulum, it just work and you have to quickly decide where you shoot your next web with the left stick.

The level 0 assist doesn't take into acount the lack of control and it seems tacked on. Since the if the web is too long and you are too low the arc will send you into the ground. Allowing us to climb your web will save that issue. Or have him run along the ground.
IMO web assist set to 1 is perfect. It keeps all the momentum and weight but you don't hit the ground (you can still bump into structures on the ground). Inside Manhattan, having the assist set to 0 is easy, the skyscrapers give you plenty of opportunity to gain height and prevent interruption. But as soon you go to Brooklyn, the buildings are way too short to keep a swing going (without doing tiny swings that are no fun), making you use L2+R2 and the web wings way more.
i think the reason for that is because we don’t necessarily get to choose where we shoot our weblines and sometimes miles or peter will shoot a webline further than intended which causes the loss of momentum. what i like to do is midair i will aim spidey a direction and let go of the directional stick and just fire a web. i realized that it helps shoot closer webs so you don’t constantly skid the ground
Here are some tips if you wanna get good. You actually require spatial awareness now unlike before so just pressing r2 when you want isn't gonna work. Two things to keep in mind is the taller the building the straighter his path can be because it's a more steep angle. Spiderman can shoot his web either left or right when you move the stick toward the building you want before you press r2. If the building is short, its best to shoot that webline earlier I'd say as soon as you fall past it's roof to let the web fully stretch and not hit the ground. Same thing with when you are diving, the web stretches even more. You can get inches above ground consistently if you know what you doing especially when Spidey hits a pose that leaves him upside down and you are inches away, the thrill is something else. So get good. Last tip is don't fight the direction the web takes you because you lose potential momentum. It's better to quick bounce off away from the building with with left stick and X or let go to use another web line that takes you to your desired trajectory. It also forces you to interact with the environment more. Those who have eyes for it can see the physics never made sense at full assist. it looks off.
I searched swing assist just to look for a take like this. I played through 100% of the game on full assist feeling off about how slow the game felt compared to what I expected from some of the swing videos I've seen. Since starting new game+ with 0 assist (fall damage for fun) the game feels sooo much better to my brain than full assist

This is such a great setting they've added, as there had been a lot of talking on how the swinging in Insomniac games was way too easy and controlled. Well, there you have it players, now you can go the hard way if you want to!
I wish that for Level 1 they'd add a mechanic to have Spidey keep momentum sliding his hand on the ground, like he did in the cutscene where he shows off the Advanced Suit in the first game, specifically the "Hellooooooo New York!" part
This might not make perfect sense but if you use the cornering ability that lets you make tight turns on a tower or something similar you can just spin around in circles and gain momentum. It'll make you dizzy but it looks really cool.
There's also the loop de loop ability which is where you dive & shoot out a webline & hold onto it looping over the building & gaining a huge momentum boost, I use this a lot & the web wings right after doing it to get moving as fast as possible then transition back to web swinging after the wings won't keep me in the air anymore but I still keep the really fast web swinging momentum.
It's going to be a while before I play this, but this looks like a huge improvement. I loved the 2018 release, but the web swinging was my biggest complaint with how simple and easy it was.
The problem it does have is the system that keeps telling Spider-Man to always let go. We can't do a seamless loop de loop on our very own. They gotta fix that in Spider-Man 3.

I think having it at 1 is the best option. I found some weird glitches and hang ups at 0 and they’re gone with 1 while still giving the more realistic swinging.
This is why movie Spiderman only show the part after they had mastered web swinging. Only Raimi's Spiderman movies showed the training montage of Spiderman learning how to swing and failing multiple times while smashing into things.
With the implementation of variable levels of assist for web swinging, I hope in the sequal, they develop web swinging even more to allow low to 0 actually being good as we’ll E.g. running on ground while still connected to web line and then jump back to swinging instead of your mementum getting halted etc.
Honestly, I wish they also add an optional feature where you can slam into cars or buildings with full animations, that would make web swinging a lot harder and more rewarding if you swing well. I do also think they should have really improved the parkour feature so that you can use it a lot more in game rather than just simple auto locked on jumps to different mounting spots
This is kinda how it was in Ultimate Spiderman (the videogame). In fact it's the swing assist that feels weird when you've played an entire game without it.
If you guys remember, peter, in the final dlc of Marvel Spider-Man, he tells Miles that he calculated where and when to shoot the web to have a perfect swing. I think removing the swing assist makes you "impersonate" Spider-Man more
I really love it. That's why Peter made Miles do maths/physics in the beginning. While players just press buttons. Now, you really have to put more effort into thinking how to swing like them.
It reminded me of back when skate 3 was new and I found hardcore mode.. like it was such a pain to get used to but once you got it it felt so much more satisfying

I turned swing assist off as soon as you started swinging in the story and i’ll never go back to full swing assist. Gonna make it hard to play through the older games
From my experience of always having played with 0 assist, my main tip would be to not fight the game. Go along with how the game brings you a little to the left or a little to the right. And if the game does make you hit the wall, don’t stop. Turn that momentum into a wall run. Can either run up the building and then warp up top or run along side the building and the jump off around the edge of it and turn it into a swing. Basically just go with the flow.
It's kinda interesting Spidey hits off a floor, but I can't forget you could run on it while swinging in previous games. That includes Spider-Man 3 and Web of Shadows at least.
This is the first open world superhero game that lets you alter traversal options, if I’m not mistaken! As someone who grew up reading comics like Spider-Man and Batman, the way artists portrayed the way they traversed their environments with dynamic poses; always added to immersion. Gotham Knights severely underwhelmed in that department, but this game may set a new standard in the gaming industry for superhero titles yet to come! Hopefully studios are taking notes.
I haven't played the game cause Ih ave no PS5 but I hope that they added missions where swining speed matters. not just "Go through these targets". Then you could really push the limits of the swinging skills!
I got Xbox but I've always wondered if the left and right triggers corresponded with the left and right sides/hands you shoot your webs out of? This was how web swinging worked in the last Spider-Man game I played and I really liked that feature, it made swinging way more immersive imo
Gravity exists big time with zero assist. It adds alot of challenge to stay aerial. In Spider-man 1 Peter talks to Miles about the importance of understanding physics. "It matters when *you're* the pendelum." So You gotta put some thought into your movements if you wanna get really good at Web Swinging. It adds alot of realism to the Game adding that detail. Of course you don't have to go straight to Zero. You can work your way down.
I absolutely love that realistically balanced inertia-based web swinging is finally getting the detailed attention it deserves with this series.

when i first got the game i put all the settings to hard - web swing assist off, hardest difficulty, fall damage, etc. and it's been a lot more fun

They should add a feature where Peter can slide on his back, like he did during his fight with Doc Ock in the Spider-Man 2 movie.
That is nice addition. Spiderman combined with physics control sure will make it more enjoyable.
With the implementation of variable levels of assist for web swinging, I hope in the sequal, they develop web swinging even more to allow low to 0 actually being good as we’ll
E.g. running on ground while still connected to web line and then jump back to swinging instead of your mementum getting halted etc.

So glad they added this, in the first game I was always manually trying to make the swinging seem realistic
If there will be no more story content Insomniac should at least add a challenge mode where you get swinging time trials and Venom combat challenges
Honestly, I wish they also add an optional feature where you can slam into cars or buildings with full animations, that would make web swinging a lot harder and more rewarding if you swing well.
I do also think they should have really improved the parkour feature so that you can use it a lot more in game rather than just simple auto locked on jumps to different mounting spots

This is kinda how it was in Ultimate Spiderman (the videogame). In fact it's the swing assist that feels weird when you've played an entire game without it.
Something that really helps in order to not hit the ground is to use web zips. They give you a small height boost while still maintaining momentum.
If you guys remember, peter, in the final dlc of Marvel Spider-Man, he tells Miles that he calculated where and when to shoot the web to have a perfect swing. I think removing the swing assist makes you "impersonate" Spider-Man more
Tried it too and its not bad. Kinda wish there was an animation where you would run with the web if you come close to the ground to keep momentum
I feel the same way , don't know how to explain it. But playing on spectacular with swing assist off makes you feel like a beast

I’ve been gradually reducing my swing assist and trying to maintain a lower swing height, so that I can practice control. It’s pretty fun, actually.
To me, web assist just feels strange. It feels much more natural without it.
Nothing makes me laugh quite like that one time I tried doing that 360 swing with fall damage on and swing assist off only to die by face planting into the ceiling. It’s true what they say. “What would happen if you were Spider-Man? You’d be DEAD!”
tbh when you turn off the swing assist it just makes traveling around the city way more realistic

I actually was spiderman in ONE dream I had and believe me when I say it's not as fun as you'd think. Very painful, in fact.
I'm one of those who didn't know this was an option until after I beat the game. Definitely gonna check all the accessibility options of every new game from here on out!

Keeping it off really makes your traversal upgrades ceel alot more impactful

From my experience of always having played with 0 assist, my main tip would be to not fight the game. Go along with how the game brings you a little to the left or a little to the right. And if the game does make you hit the wall, don’t stop. Turn that momentum into a wall run. Can either run up the building and then warp up top or run along side the building and the jump off around the edge of it and turn it into a swing. Basically just go with the flow.

It's kinda interesting Spidey hits off a floor, but I can't forget you could run on it while swinging in previous games. That includes Spider-Man 3 and Web of Shadows at least.

This is the first open world superhero game that lets you alter traversal options, if I’m not mistaken! As someone who grew up reading comics like Spider-Man and Batman, the way artists portrayed the way they traversed their environments with dynamic poses; always added to immersion. Gotham Knights severely underwhelmed in that department, but this game may set a new standard in the gaming industry for superhero titles yet to come! Hopefully studios are taking notes.

I haven't played the game cause Ih ave no PS5 but I hope that they added missions where swining speed matters. not just "Go through these targets". Then you could really push the limits of the swinging skills!

I got Xbox but I've always wondered if the left and right triggers corresponded with the left and right sides/hands you shoot your webs out of? This was how web swinging worked in the last Spider-Man game I played and I really liked that feature, it made swinging way more immersive imo

Gravity exists big time with zero assist. It adds alot of challenge to stay aerial.
In Spider-man 1 Peter talks to Miles about the importance of understanding physics. "It matters when *you're* the pendelum." So You gotta put some thought into your movements if you wanna get really good at Web Swinging.
It adds alot of realism to the Game adding that detail.
Of course you don't have to go straight to Zero. You can work your way down.
