Hey Rstout, thx for the support, I am really enjoying this GT knot series. The “Actual” variant into the Bimini really looks strong. It’s kind of like a mini FG into a Figure eight. If the Bimini really is as strong as they say it is this knot will fly. Tightlines appreciate the support.
You're really putting in a lot of effort on this series. Your research of the individual knots and variations of knots using the same name and then the production values and the fantastic macro shots of the knots under increasing tension are amazing. Nobody else does it this well. Thanks so much for doing so much work for the rest of us. I do have a couple of points though. Firstly the sizing of the lines in the line to line series are close together. Many of us will be using 30lb braid with 50 to 80lb mono or fluoro leaders. This could make a difference in the number of wraps needed, particularly with slippery braids, with the bigger leader diameters. A test using different leader sizes on a single main line size to see how this affects the number of wraps required would be a great resource. Lastly wet strength is very important. Mono absorbs water and while fluoro and braid are less affected the lubrication, and possibly cooling effects may make a difference. Perhaps water helps knot strength under some conditions allowing the wraps to snug down more with less friction or does it just allow the braid to cut into the leader more easily? It would be good to know for sure.
Hi Brian, thank you for taking time to comment and bring up some great points. On all the line to line categories mono, braid and fluoro the last 2 combinations you will want to watch then, there is a 30-50 and a 50-80lb class hence why these line to line videos take so much longer to record the data. In terminal knots there are only 5 categories. Yes sizing is important as you say, that’s why these are in there for each line to line connection, guessing the 30/50 is going to be the most popular as you say. With regards to Mono, indeed you are correct it does absorb water, I have got a few videos planned to cover this. You may also enjoy watching a lubrication video I put out a while ago it compares a few different lubricants including water and saliva. On Fluoro also there is a third category that may be of interest it’s 50/30 combo where this is popular for Tuna fishing especially in San Diego where the fish get really line shy. Leaders are then stepped down to put fish on the bite. Tightlines.
Please do the Spider Hitch someday. I get 80-90% in my tests with a luggage scale, but your high-speed testing equipment will be heaps more accurate. Great channel. I hope your line of hand tools is selling well.
First of all let me commend you and thank you for all the great videos and work you are putting into them. Now that the buttering up is done, how about a request :P The Alberto knot deserves a testing, it is a strong and easy knot to tie and it would be great to have some data to know where it stands. I have a feeling it will rival the Slim Beauty.
Hey Lez, Thank you so much. Appreciate the feedback and the support. I really enjoy doing them and I am pleased people are learning and enjoying it as much as me. It’s great its like opening a new toy every time I do a new knot. Bit like being at school and learning how each thing works. Definitely it’s on my to do list, Alberto is a great knot, if it can build on the success of the Albright it would be incredible. It’s also going to be great to see the actual version of the GT knot. It’s really a good looking knot and it’s really technical to tie so that makes it intriguing also. Thanks for getting in touch. Tightlines.
I am still developing the knot. I think the whole concept really works, keeping the figure eight knot thin and unwinding the load over the leader knot prior to overlapping any braid. I have a few ideas like trying the overwrapped clinch knot which was very impressive on the performance , also seeing how the “Actual” knot performs. Tightlines.
@@davidhiggins7702 Ha Ha, I am To humble to be a legend. Thank you for your encouragement means a lot. Hey David what do you think of the Bimini, I know the FG is popular but I did a bit of initial testing on the Bimini… just to ensure my method for tying it was okay for the How to. The 1st few tests, OH my gosh it was like hitting the jackpot, the results were off the scale. Take care.
@@toitfishing mate I used to use the Bimini but it is to slow to tie and in my opinion no we’re near as strong as FG. I used Bimini a lot when I was younger but found it slow and hard to tie might have just been the age thing but.
@@davidhiggins7702 The FG is a great knot, I think you might like the GT “Actual” also it has an FG and Bimini, but you are talking about 3-4 minutes to tie it. I think most people I talk to tend to always have 2-3 line to line knots they use one that you tie the night before and one that you need in a panic or during a fish feed frenzy. Thx again David.
Thanks for asking, I just need time to explore the options. The concept of keeping the figure eight knot flattened down is key. Also the way the initial wraps act as a sponge releasing the force slightly slower into the leader line. I do also want to honour the “Actual Version” hence I am working on that. Also I am not settled on the design on the modified GT as I know the Double clinch as shown in slim Beauty is much much stronger than double Uni. So I need a bit more development/testing to make sure it’s captures everything we are all learning together. Thanks for the support, appreciate you using and tying and testing the Modified GT in the real world. Tightlines.
@@toitfishing I’ve been tying your version of the gt knot, with a bimini leading to 3 wraps around the figure of 8 knot before threading back out and tying an 8 wrap double uni. It’s a slim enough knot that seems as strong as an ox. I haven’t had it fail yet...though it is summer, I’m a bass fisherman, and I haven’t had all that many hookups. I did catch a 4 lber on shaky head with 25lb braid to 20 lb fluoro and it held no sweat. Just so you have some evidence of application.
@@Slayerformayor1983 yeah I think that knot looks awesome, it really makes it look Slim. I think it’s less complicated than the Actual GT knot. Looking forward to getting them tested. Thanks for taking time to give me an update, really good to hear it’s performing really well. There’s is another subscriber who messaged me a few times and he did some extensive testing on it also and he found his Bimini twist broke every single time before the improved GT knot. He said that’s the 1st knot that he had ever seen that happen with. Tightlines, make sure to tag me on Instagram when you put your photos up.

For mono to mono the slim beauty is 57.42% vs the blood knot at 57.90%, but you have the slim beauty above the blood knot.
Always enjoy your videos. Were you planning on run testing on your improved GT knot?
