From fishing knot "How to" tutorials to in depth overview's and knot testing, to basic fishing tips and strategy. You know, we all have a passion for fishing but at the centre of it is this knowledge we learn from our dads, our friends or strangers on the beach, a jetty, dare I say mud bank. My vision you ask? Well it is this: to teach every person who watches this channel everything I have learned. Teach them to fish, because it’s the greatest pastime our forefathers invented.

What is the point of the knot with the crimp? Getting into tuna plugging this year and trying to learn about setting up
Isn't FG-knot the knot to use?
Good evening. Are you sending him to Russia?
I want to come up with a great tool solution on my Viking reload kayak🤞these might be just the job👍
Are they stackable? I.e 3 on top of each other?
The hopes are all machined on CnC machine so they are highly accurate. You will be able to stack these. Tightlines
Will this hold the tools in the horizontal position? Looking for a solution for my kayak fishing tools. Will it hold your 8”scissors?
My hat is off to you Sir! You are, by far, the most legitimate knot tester I have ever seen. The GOAT OF KNOT TESTING!!! I started fishing pre-internet, and was always more anal and curious about knots strength than my fishing buddies. I even purchased the Black Max Acculine tester by IWS for around 2 grand way back in the day so I could do my own knot testing. As a young man, I worked as a pro mate on sportfishing boats off the east coast of the US. I learn alot testing knots myself, but you have taken it to the next level. Thank you for doing these test, I know how much work it actually is to do knot test properly. I truly appreciate the work you have done
@@logancannady978 thank you so much for taking the time to write and respond. You not wrong when you say it’s hard. But I do enjoy it very much. Thanks
I really like it, particularly being twice through - though it does have an inherent bend for imperfect alignment that prohibits use in certain situations with heavy mono
Only 3 wraps for mono and fc? Try 5-6 wraps.
Don't these results contradict the results with the same knot from your other videos? What is the actual breaking strain of that 100lb used? Never seen a clinch or imp clinch hit over 90%.
Hi warren, thanks for your video. I noticed the fluorocarbon 80lb performed better with only 3 wraps. How about mono? i did see in another short video you made that 3 wraps with 100lb mono broke at 94lb... but the actual breaking strain was not disclosed. So i couldnt establish an accurate % for the knot strength...
To confirm, this is 100lb test line and an improved clinch broke at 94lb???? Thanks for your reply.
i find it very strange that he actual testing of your favourite knot is so difficult to find here ??
I’ve been using the regular GT for a year. Can’t wait to try this out Brother! Thanks for your research and sharing.
Fish N Fool knot stronger than the Toit knot. Why not add that to the test ?
There is no fish n fool knot. The guy just added more wraps to the improved uni and stamped his name on it... And yes toit hasn't dared to test the improved uni vs his improved trilene knot... or "toit knot".
Thanks for the great video. I wonder whether it is possible to tie this without using the Bimini knot ie just using a loop. I try doing that and do half hitches on the shorter end of the leader... some what similar to the way fg knot ends. Can u advice whether this way is good.
Any plans on a smaller size for #1-#3 rings?
The modular split ring tools can open sizes #1-#3 easily. They can be purchased separately or in kits. Tightlines
@@toitfishing I'm sure they're nice, but $200 is no bueno for me.
MONO to MONO knots ONLY. (Knots with braid mainline and mono leader are well covered at over 100% tensile using an FG or PR ... but mono-2-mono has no consistent corresponding 100% or better mainline to leader knot, until now) ...... I have performed well over 200 mono-2-mono mainline-2-leader knot tests and the ONLY clear winner has been the six turn surgeon knot (6XS knot). Using 18lb or 25b Sakuma Nite Crystal and 17lb or 25lb Sufix Seige, married to 50lb Sufix Superior or 50lb Gardner or 80lb Gardner, the mainline always broke *outside* the six turn surgeon knot and always over 100% of the mainline's rated tensile strength. The mono used is of highest quality - soft and reasonably limp. If other mono brands/types are used, specifically if they are harder and stiffer, they must be tested to insure a similar performance of a 6XS (six turn surgeon) knot. All knots were hand tied, no pulling sticks or pliers used, no mainlines were crossed over themselves, and a digital force gauge captured the breaking strength. The key is 6 overhand turns, any less number of turns would yield some tied knots breaking inside the knot and at less than then mainline rated tensile strength. Once the knot has been started to be drawn together, it must be wet lubricated. A typical 6XS tying protocol has all lines initially pulled together, then the leader tag and its line are pulled, then the main tag and its line are pulled, then just the mainline and leader line are pulled tight and the tag ends clipped off close to the knot. The issues with all mono-2-mono surgeon knots are .... their completed knot diameter will be a larger diameter as compared to other popular mono-2-mono knots, and the need to drag 35' of shock leader 6 times through a knot required for hefty surf cast fishing tackle. For the most part, one will need to test casting a 6 turn surgeon knot to see if it will work well enuf and no to little lost casting distance is observed. One method of pulled 35' of shock leader through the six overhand loops is relatively easy and can be done at the beach in the roughest of weather and surf conditions. Pre-spool the leader on a stick of 3/4"x5" dowel or PVC tubing - start by taping one end to the stick and wind on all but about 2' of the leader, keep the spooled part from coming off by using a rubber band. I carry four of these "leader sticks" in my surf bag. To tie on a new leader, pull off a few feet of mainline off the reel and slip its end into the rubber band f the leader stick. Mate together and grab both the mainline and leader together, make a 4" loop with them, pass the leader stick in and out of the loop six times. Make the surgeon knot. Easy peasy. :)
To avoid any confusion, rounder doesn't always mean softer, correct?
Correct, it was just an example showing 2 different Split Rings. It depends on the type of stainless, diameter of wire, whether forged or not, some are also heat treated to improve properties also. Hope that helps. Tightlines
Ive tried it Im using sunline fc sniper 20lb and did four wraps and 5 half hitches and it was 100% of the line strength!!
Flip flops with a king mackerel and two treble hooks. That dude is asking for it.
How can this knot be used to join two lines together? I don't want to do the fg knot, it's a pain in the ass
What type of sleeves are you suppose to use with these.
What type of sleeves are you suppose to use with these
What about braid to braid what’s the best knot?
Bring back the worlds strongest fishing knot series please. There are so many knots you haven't tested and some are very commonly used. Like the FG knot is pretty much the most used braid to leader connection in the world.
My Florida fishing buddies run a charter business. They observed that sun lotion repels many fishes, and make an effort to keep it off their hands and tackle.
Someday, please do a segment on the popular Sipder Hitch and Seaguar loop knots.
Im Aussie and i dont think this knot is slim nor a beauty. Only competition fishing tossers used this. The FG knot is the the knot to rule them all
The very first knot I learned as a little kid from the diagram on a box of Trilene mono, it has been my main knot tied in almost all applications, from Salmon to Shark, Bluegill to Bowfin, Pompano to Pike and many many more species I have caught from Florida to Alaska. There is an "Improved Trilene Knot" and I wonder how much better or possibly worse it is.
Please do the Spider Hitch someday. I get 80-90% in my tests with a luggage scale, but your high-speed testing equipment will be heaps more accurate. Great channel. I hope your line of hand tools is selling well.
How about the Alberto / crazy Alberto? would love to see a braid to flouro test on that....
@@NMLongshot agreed, very fond of crazy Alberto, such a great guy, we had a long chat about his knot at Icast a few years back. It’s in my to do list.
I like how the main line exits the knot straight out, opposed to others at an angle that can break at that stressed point…. 🤔 going to use your design from here on out! Thanks mate…
@@mikemurphy9879 thx Mike appreciate the feedback. It definitely tightens down very well at front and rear of the knot. Tightlines
16lb braid to 20lb mono. Make two or three wraps of uni?
I hope your fishing tools are selling well. Do you offer a cross cutter that can deal with 400 lb steel cable?
I really appreciate the professionalism of your content and your knowledge about knots, which is why I would love to ask your opinion on which knot would be best for my application. I'm fishing for pike and using 13x braided line (0.26 mm / PE 2.5 / 53 lb) for long-distance casting, but I also need a thick fluorocarbon leader resistant to pike teeth. My leader is currently 1.17 mm / 125 lb, so as you can see, the diameter difference between the mainline and the leader is significant. Which knot would you recommend?
@@PIKESNOTDEAD slim beauty is worth some perfecting, it’s definitely quick but very reliable, just make sure to use the correct knot formation on the leader line. Tightlines
I use my foot as the third hand.
Finally someone else using round nose pliers to tie wire! Great instructional video!
I just discovered your site kinda like when Columbus ‘discover’ North America-someone else was there first. You ability to get down to the basic of fishing line and knot strength is amazing. Thanks from Columbus Ohio, mate!
i have one of these crimpers and we need an updated expanded video. I understand how to crimp a large aluminum crimp, but it would be nice to see how you are crimping double barrel copper crimps. And there is no explanation on what the 3mm male recess crimp is used for (AND by the way, why the hell is there is a "zero" or "theta" symbol in front of these measurements?? ie, "03mm female recess". -- why not just 3mm recess ??? )
where do you discuss the final loop position ? -- At 6:08 you say "I will save this topic for our overview" -- what overview???
@toitfishing First, I'd like to say that I gravitated towards this knot because of its low profile and ease of tying quickly. But I too was disappointed by the actual strength. In my case, I've found that on heavier braid connected to lighter fluorocarbon or monofilament, it's not the braid that fails for me. I'm using 30 lb braided to either 8 lb or 12 lb. Fluorocarbon (A typical freshwater setup for up here in Wisconsin, USA) and I've been messing with this knot to try to make it fail in some other place besides like 50% of fluorocarbon strength on the fluorocarbon. I used your tip about doubling the braid but applied that to the fluorocarbon side instead and had really good luck. If you have some time I would love to see what that does in your testing device. The knor is a little bit bigger profile but still pretty small this way and way stronger for me.
The only knots I use now are the Toit knot you taught, the double palomer knot, and the modified GT knot you taught (for connecting monofluoride to braided I do 5 wraps around the doubled figure-8 knot and then a seven wrap uni to finish… for connecting braided to more braided I do four wraps around the double figure-8 knot and then an eight wrap uni to finish.) never lost a lure of fish or anything for that matter! Thanks again! I look forward to getting the toit scissors on y’all’s website soon when I get my next paycheck because I don’t have anything to cut braided line specifically and that’s pretty much exclusively what I use
Name of you’re crimpers please

@@toitfishing ordered yesterday!
Hi Sam and phil I can't want to meet u phil. sam I have Shimano 25 speed master. With a 100 pound braid Can I use a 150 pound fluorocarbon for sink Rig
Ordered these not knowing much about them. Turns out they are the scissors that I didn't know I needed. They are awesome, like all of the Toit tools.
David, appreciate the support. Which option did you end up buying? My wife really enjoys having a pair in the Kitchen cutlery drawer. Perfect for spatch cock chicken on the Braai (BBQ)
@@toitfishing Bought the 6". Now you have me thinking about a pair for the kitchen, and Peri Peri.
Lfg!! My man's still around!!
Yeah, getting back on it. Got a new Video on "Stainless Steel" coming soon and what it means for fisherman.
The easiest way to keep your tags from getting caught is to cut them flush! My tapered fly fishing leaders have 5 or more blood knots over 9ft and I've never had an issue with one failing.
Awesome! What is the strogest chain knot or the toit knot??
Thanks for reaching out. I am yet tie the Chain knot in decent quantity to have an factual opinion on it. I have got this knot on my to do list. This is only my opinion, not based on actual testing. I am slightly concerned on the standing end exiting out the back of the knot on its own. Typically when a knot is put under load the knot typically tightens at the front and the back of the knot. So as the line is cinched during use the standing end is compromised as it has only a single line exiting at back of knot. This all the forces and line pressure is exerted solely on one strand of monofilament. Tightlines and thanks for watching.
Greetings from Turkey. I am Kadri Ağralı. I learned this knot two years ago by watching your videos and I have been using this knot in all my hunting for two years. I have experienced a lot so far. It is much stronger and easier to do than the knots I used before. I have great respect for the work you do. Thank you very much for this reason.
Hi Kadri, thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback on the Toit Knot. Yes it is truly a strong knot, I am hoping to get back onto the knot testing this year. Take care.
