Hi Mats, Love you video! I biked Passau to Vienna last year with two of my friends and it was the best bike trip I'd ever done. The German and Austian people were so friendly and fun to be around. After seeing this video, I want to do this trip also. Thank you for posting this. All the best from California
Schöne Strecken, bin ich auch schon gefahren. Da habts aber einen Schnittfehler drinnen: Zuerst Passau, dann 17km bis Grein und dann Schlögen wird nicht funktionieren, wenn man von West nach Ost fährt. 😂
trying to do a bike tour that goes through this route. did you do it with a company? do you know of any companies that do it? awesome video. so inspired.
Thanks! We did the tour on our own, so I don’t know any tour companies. We took our own bikes in the car and parked it in Linz. Then took the bikes on the train to Landeck and from Vienna. Good luck!
Hi there, I've just came across your channel and love all your trips. This is the kind of vacation and my free time l love to spend too. I also admire your editing skills very much. It's not easy to put together a short movie that is not long and boring. Believe me I know all about it :):) so congrats on that. On August this year I'm going to ride from Basel (CH) to Amsterdam (NL). It is going to be my first sirious road bike tour and I like to be prepared :):) so I have a question. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see any camping gear on your bikes. I'm guessing that you are using hotels and B&Bs ? Are you having it all reserved before you start your journey or are you planning it by the day where you gonna spend the night - how do you go about that? thanks.
Thanks for your kind words, I appreciate it. Your observation is right, we travel light and sleep indoors. We rarely book ahead in continental Europe and we always find some sort of accommodation, at least outside the holiday season in August. In Sweden we often bring another bag with camping equipment as Sweden is sparsely populated in comparison, and camping in nature is allowed everywhere. You pretty much can find your own deserted lake with beach side camping everywhere in the country. Good luck with your tour!
I don’t have the complete gpx track, but you can easily find the route on opencyclemaps.org. Follow R3 along the Inn river from Innsbruck to Passau, then EV6 along the Danube to Vienna.
I did this trip this year (starting at Salzburg instead of Landeck) and a GPS track isn't necessary as both routes are well marked and it basically always follows the river. The only use of a GPS was to find a specific hotel or restaurant. Oh yeah, expect some umleitungen (detours) based on local conditions (especially around the Inn).
We didn’t camp on this trip, but stayed in private rooms, B&Bs and hotels. There is plenty of accommodation along the way to choose from.
