@@MatHall we are planning for next summer on our tandem and will be watching and rewatching your videos. Just love the travel style you two used; exactly what we have envisioned! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
There are so many of these bike touring documentaries and so many are just people showing us videos of their trip. You folks have done a first rate job of showing us how a ride this actually feels and the day to day logistics of the trip. Most worthwhile one I've watched.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. It took me ages to go through all ny footage and comments like this make it all worthwhile. Thanks again and happy new year!
Hi everyone! We hope you enjoy this long over due complete Rhine cycle route film... and it brings back good memories/ hope you can do it in the very near future !
So very well done. I fact, one could argue that it's TOO well done! I realize I don't have to outfit my bikes, bags, arrange airline tickets or do anything like that. With RUclips videos like this, I don't even need to leave home to experience world bicycle touring. I can enjoy it in the comfort of my home, on the couch, sipping a home-made latte, just to my liking. Much, MUCH easier! Oh but not so good for the waistline!!! 😁
PS And with blokes like Ed Pratt on YT, I can pretend I, too, have unicycled the world! (I can unicycle, but not much more than about a mile these days!!!)
Ah thank you Alex. I'm so glad you liked it, it was a labour of love and it means a lot to us that people can enjoy it and find it useful for planning! Do you think you'll do the ev15 one day?
Your video inspired me to embark on my first cycle tour around the Netherlands, and I've just returned having caught the cycle touring bug! I had the best time and wanted to thank you for sharing your adventures. Now my sights are set on the Rhine!
Watching this in august 2024. Such a great video wow! 🎉 I lived in Bavaria for a few months and spent my days cycling around all of the bike paths. Such incredibly good memories. I would love to do something like this. But maybe in the spring or fall when it isn’t so hot 😵💫 thanks so much ❤
Glorious! I’ve cycled from Amsterdam to Dusseldorf to see the TDF but always hoped to continue further down the Rhine. Lovely video. Looking forward to part 2. 😊

Yes Kerry!! Get it!! Wow northwestern wisconsin, amazing how RUclips can reach all corners! You will love the rhine, everyone does, it's amazing joy all the way! When will you go??
@@MatHall it's nearly time to get back to school, but I'm thinking early June next year after the school year finishes. I've really gotten into cycling lately and I bought a bike packing tent only yesterday. As soon as I get it, I'll do some get-used-to-it bike camping trips before the snow flies. Ordered the guide book 5 minutes ago! Yeah, I live in a smallish (2000 peeps) town on Lake Superior and there's always somewhere to hike or to pedal too. Maybe I can grab my German friend to join me? I was also thinking about roller skating cycle routes in the Netherlands. Normally, I'm a hiker and I love longer distances, like a month or 2, but this cycling thing is exciting! You might like to watch You Tuber-Ryan Van Duzer's antics on various cycle treks...the Continental Divide Cycle Route perhaps? I am very intrigued, but I think it'd be better to do my first long trips on routes not quite so isolated. I need to find somebody to teach me about bike repair! Thanks for the information and inspiration!! All the best, Kerry
What an extraordinary video, full of adventure, nice cinematography and pertinent information. Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience with us, especially considering the fact that the editing must have taken such a long time!!
Thanks Pietro, I really appreciate anyone who mentions the time it took to edit as yes, it took most of lockdown haha! Was a labour of love and I learnt lots about editing and iys certainly made me want to make more. Have lots of plans for 2022 once our baby is big enough for a trailer.. thanks for watching and for such a lovely comment!!! 😍 Do you have any rides planned??
@@MatHall Can´t wait to see what the future holds for you, your family and your next adventures! As for me, I have many rides planned (too many to write down) because I am only 21 haha! I´ll use your videos as inspiration! Cheers!!
This was great to see, a video where cycle tourists are using campsites rather than wild camping. I was planning a similar trip last year, my plan is to get to the castle section of the Rhine via train or plane then cycle back to the U.K. Obviously that didn’t happen and it’s not going to happen this year now either, but hopefully next year.
Thanks for commenting! The campsites were nearly all fantastic and really made the trip what it was. We met great people along the way at campsites too. I think overall along the rhine we only used hotels in strasbourg, mannheim, and dusseldorf which was always a treat to look forward to. I really hope you make it next year, I'm sure things will be ok by then. It's surely the most covid friendly way to travel too !
From the corn crop I saw, I’m betting you’re travelling in August. Thinking about doing the same trip in May. I’m sure there would be lots of rain, but I think I could handle that better than the heat. Plus we’d stay in BnB’s rather than a wet tent.
Thank you for this video! I'm off in a few weeks riding London to Milan - only going lightweight with x2 10ltr rear panniers and 3.5l upfront. Hotels though, not camping. It was really good to get an overview of the route! I need to knock out about 130km a day, its gonna be a challenge!
All these years and this is still so informative as I start (just looking) how to get to istanbul and came across your video. Brillinant, just what Im looking for. ill be doing it alone and one-way journey as I will be flying to Japan after. Thanks for the info.
What a Nice Video and thanks for the positive Vibe:-) no crying about the weather:-)….next Time you pass cologne you can com to my home Couch Surfing!!! Mar
@@MatHall I cycled to Hunza in northern Pakistan in 1985, pre eurovelo, but some of our stops the same. I rode a Claud Butler Dalesman, which I still use for touring. Mind you, these days I use B&b where back then I'd just kip under the stars without a tent.
My wife and I have done the Rhine route both ways several times and it's always nice to see it again with new cycling tourists. We hope you guys continue bicycle touring, there's a lot more of Europe to see.
Ha we were just saying earlier today that we wished we lived nearer to the rhine or danube to pop on and do some sections at the weekends...! So nice you've done it so much, great memories I'm sure. Thank you for watching George!
Thank you so much for this great video. If everything works out, I will be biking this route in 2022 in the reverse, starting at the Oberalpass and ending in Koln with a detour up the Mosel instead of continuing into the Netherlands. Again thanks for the inspiration!
So nice to follow this journey, I saw some of my much loved cycling paths in NL around @3:50, the Dutch dunes and Scheveningen, I'll probably visit those on coming Sunday 😁 And I fully agree: cycling is the perfect pace to enjoy the scenery. With walking you just don't get very far really and by car a nice bit is gone too soon, cycling: perfect! I was not prepared for the Lichtenstein footage, that was so beautiful, I literally got a bit emotional.
Oh Liechtenstein was incredible, I'm glad you made it that far in the video THANK YOU!!! :)))) I really appreciate the comment. Ah just talking here, makes me want to return to beautiful cycle paths in Europe again. Roll on next year, we plan to cycle in April with baby!
@@MatHall Haha, No swimming was done, but indeed Sunday was on the hot side. With adequate hydration (there are free safe drinking water taps throughout the dunes provided by the local water provider) it was quite OK. Also a sea breeze was helping with cooling down a bit.
@@MatHall We're a couple also looking for a cycle adventure through central Europe - recently novices to triathlon. I've been looking at doing either EV 4, 5 or 15 but perhaps you've convinced us to do 15!
@JamesDowningChapters nice! I cant speak for EV4/5 but 15 was so much fun. EV6 was more 'epic' and varied, tougher, and EV13 was immense and so much harder but so much more rewarding. 15 was pure fun and incredibly pretty easy riding
OMG, your trip was amazing to view. Such incredible everyday cycling adventures which are so uplifting and inspiring. I love the way you organized yourselves with planning mini breaks, flexible accomodation arrangements and good use of guide books. Am so looking forward to the family adventures your hopefully planning with your new baby. Thank you much for sharing your incredible journey and for promoting cycling on the Velo network. And you are spot on about this type of holiday being the future - it certainly should be!

Will be a new challenge with baby and we can't wait to try. Hope you can enjoy some of the eurovelos too. Thanks again!
Harriet and Matt hi! Thank you so much for this video. I really enjoy it! It was like a documentary, very well filmed and edited. You are very good tourist guides! You also have positive energy. The scenery was fantastic and very well comented and presented. This video gave me the motivation to make my first 2 day "tour" here in Cyprus. You are a very nice couple. Thanks again! Pavlos.

Great set of videos. Just watched all three. Really enjoyed your filming, good edits, lovely mix of story telling and information. Thanks! Very inspiring, would love to do some longer bike touring.
Ah thanks Katherine that means a lot! Lot of effort over covid went into these edits! Hope you make it on some longer tours soon. I cant wait either. We now have 2 kids and will wait until they are perhaps at least 3 or 4. But will do some shorter ones next summer :) watch this space! Merry xmas

Watched your recent electric bike review and thought I’d rewatch this series since it inspired me to start planning my own Rhine route. Was thinking of cycling to Harwich (less than a hour’s ride away from home), ferry across to NL then train down through Germany then riding back to Hook of Holland to ferry it back. Sadly won’t be able to do it this year but fingers crossed for ‘23.
That sounds like a brilliant plan! Especially if youre near harwich too. We're moving to south coast soon so will use the Portsmouth ferry i think for some rides in france next year. This year will be practising riding with baby in trailer tow locally. Should be fun! Thanks for watching again, so nice to hear :) All the best Pete

@@MatHall The video did push me to finally do it. I mentioned it to a friend who i did a 1200 km hike with a few years ago. She's wondering what your thoughts are on walking the Rhine?
@@steveclark6257 walking would totally be a great idea, as you don't often pass 10km without finding a place to stay or eat for example. What might be amazing too for her, is to walk most of it but also pick up a point to point bike hire for the more popular points, or even to skip the less interesting bits like the very industrial parts of Germany

Thanks for sharing. This is fabulous
Cheers Darryl!
Cheers!!
When are you taking another trip.. This video is so Good we need another series. This is my third time watching and being jealous BTW.
Amazing! Ah we wish too. I think a few years yet when kids are bit older. Some small rides for the time being!
Coor that is very very big days on these slowish river paths, you might need to do some main roads to make up time, good luck, sounds amazing!!!
Best cycle touring vlog I've found on RUclips so far, thanks for sharing and I hope to see more of this great content
Ah cheers Blair thats so nice of you to take the time to comment and say! Appreciate that a lot, it was a labour of love for sure.... ! :))))
Lovely video, great source of inspiration! Thanks!!!
Gracie!!!! :)
@@MatHall 🙏😆
All these years and this is still so informative as I start (just looking) how to get to istanbul and came across your video. Brillinant, just what Im looking for. ill be doing it alone and one-way journey as I will be flying to Japan after. Thanks for the info.
Very nice video, I must say, loved it. Informative and beautifully edited. ❤️✌🏾
What a Nice Video and thanks for the positive Vibe:-) no crying about the weather:-)….next Time you pass cologne you can com to my home Couch Surfing!!! Mar
Danke mate!!!
Great series. Loving it
Thanks a lot!
Watching this for the second time. Great adventure. -H
Well done, a brilliant thing to do in life.
Cheers Liam, we loved it!!
Really enjoying the style and pace of your trip and video.
Thanks Norman!
Great documentary of your trip. Thanks. We will likely do this as well. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Cheers Jim!!! Hope you get to ride it soon, it was such a fun and interesting journey as you can see!
Thank you, a marvelous vlog.
Thanks John!!! More to come this summer avec bebe!
@@MatHall I cycled to Hunza in northern Pakistan in 1985, pre eurovelo, but some of our stops the same. I rode a Claud Butler Dalesman, which I still use for touring. Mind you, these days I use B&b where back then I'd just kip under the stars without a tent.
Wow - you certainly inspired us to give it a go. A beautiful and informative vlog. Thank you so much.
Thanks Sue. Do you have any routes in mind already? Maybe the Rhine! It was such good fun :) Thanks for the comment !
Super video ❤️
Thank you Kyra!! :)))
Thank you so much for this great video. If everything works out, I will be biking this route in 2022 in the reverse, starting at the Oberalpass and ending in Koln with a detour up the Mosel instead of continuing into the Netherlands. Again thanks for the inspiration!
Hi John!! Thank you for watching!! It's such a lovely ride, you will love it I'm sure. Glad the video can help in some way. Have a great summer!
Thanks!
Wow thanks!! Our first ever super thanks / payment other than youtube ads, absolutely awesome thank you. Really appreciate the gesture
So nice to follow this journey, I saw some of my much loved cycling paths in NL around @3:50, the Dutch dunes and Scheveningen, I'll probably visit those on coming Sunday 😁
And I fully agree: cycling is the perfect pace to enjoy the scenery.
Did you cycle to the dunes on Sunday?? Hot weather for it! Maybe a swim too..!
@@MatHall Haha, No swimming was done, but indeed Sunday was on the hot side. With adequate hydration (there are free safe drinking water taps throughout the dunes provided by the local water provider) it was quite OK. Also a sea breeze was helping with cooling down a bit.
Wow, nice video, makes me feel as if I went along with you. That scenery was unreal; probably not the same after the 2021 floods. Good work again.
buscando información sobre alguna ruta europea, me encuentro con esta joya! realmente me motivo mas a hacer algo así
Glad it helped!! 😍 thanks for watching:)))
Chapeau
Thank you very very much!
You are welcome!
Thanks for sharing this - great info
Hope it can be helpful. Are you planning on ev15 ride??
@@MatHall We're a couple also looking for a cycle adventure through central Europe - recently novices to triathlon. I've been looking at doing either EV 4, 5 or 15 but perhaps you've convinced us to do 15!
@JamesDowningChapters nice! I cant speak for EV4/5 but 15 was so much fun. EV6 was more 'epic' and varied, tougher, and EV13 was immense and so much harder but so much more rewarding. 15 was pure fun and incredibly pretty easy riding
@@MatHall That's great to know - thanks for replying :)
Beautiful film. Well done.
Ah cheers!!!!!! 😊😊😊
Can't wait to get going:-)
Cheers Ted! Really appreciate your comments and so glad you enjoyed the videos. We can't wait to make more next year :) hope you have some exciting plans too!
Such a useful and inspiring video! Thank you for creating and sharing it.
Thanks Mary 😊
This was brilliant, I have a lot to think about now very inspiring. Thank you
Thank you Luke! Hope you enjoy it too some time soon!
Very cool! Well done and thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys appreciate that 🙏
this is the rout I'm considering solo for next year Hull to Rotterdam then catching the 15 partway down, great video and super informative👍
Thanks dan, glad it can help, its a great route the ev15, couldnt be easier to navigate either. Enjoy!
I have watched all 3 videos and they are so useful and informative and I'm really looking forward to when the world returns to closer to normal so I can do at least some of the route. I love the way you demonstrate it is affordable and a lot better and more enjoyable than say a crap all you can eat Med package tour. And you are spot on about this type of holiday being the future - it certainly should be!
Thanks for watching them all David! I wish we knew about this way of travelling earlier and I hope more people take any kind of opportunity to cycle tour be it a weekend trip or a long cross continent trip. Anyone can do it.
Pavlos.
Pavlos THANK YOU!!! Brought a smile to our faces today! Enjoy your Cyprus tour, that sounds very nice. I'd love to visit Cyprus one day. Have a great summer and thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment :))))
Merry xmas
I'm inspired! I can't wait for Covid to end and Europe to open up. Thanks to you both for a wonderful cycling video!
Ah thanks William, that's amazing to hear. I hope you get to ride it ASAP! Thank you for commenting and watching:) Pls subscribe if not already as new films are coming very soon!
I have done small UK cycle tours but yet to go abroad. Have watched many cycle touring videos on RUclips and this is by far the most useful, relevant and inspiring. Fantastic effort. Thank you for making it.
Ah wow thank you!!! It was a pleasure making it!
Loved it. Been looking for this type of VLOG for the EV 15 for ages
Thanks for watching David. We too were looking for a more comprehensive ev15 video before we left, hence why I thought I should make one. Hopefully it'll help people imagine and plan!
Excellent film. Very inspiring. Hope to ride up the Rhine too at some point in the future. Thanks for sharing it.
Hope it helps the planning and builds more excitement for your trip! Thanks for watching Stephen
Thank you for the trip. I can almost cry that I may never do it. I wanted to go to worms Germany then to the bridge to far arhem nederlands. Use two day tour boats. Trying to train could not do 5 minutes stationary bike now 30 minutes 5 days a week. The bike says 5.3 miles. Thinking down hill make easy. Your talks are good and photos great yours Evans w robinson
Thanks for the message, I really hope you can do it soon. We saw many people doing shorter parts and some doing much longer, I would love to just go back to a section a ride for a weekend along the rhine again! Maybe future holidays we will. Best wishes and stay safe :)
always mega jealous of couples that bike pack together, amazing video guys :D
Thank you for watching! Going to start with our little one this year. Nee videos in a month or so :))) Pls subscribe and send to anyone who might be interested in family cycling! :P
Excellent
Good job. Thanks for the video. I've been wanting to do this route for a few years. i have now decided to do it. Start in Sept.
Thanks for watching, Steve. Hope it helps you plan and so glad it's perhaps played a part in pushing you to do it! It's a fantastic ride in so many ways
I really loved watching this. I just got hooked on bike touring, and your videos really makes me want to do a bike Euro-trip.
Ah cheers!!! What a nice message:) We get riding again soon with baby in tow so hopefully new videos soon too 😊
Thank you for a great video. Both entertaining and informative.
Thanks Joao! 😊 glad you liked it. Amazing fun ride if you get the chance!
What a fantastic video! Thank you for sharing your adventure. All the information you provide is great too but done in a really informal manner.
Planning on a trip to Greece to visit my sister next summer. This video is very useful!
Have a great summer guys, looking forward to your next film! 👌👌👌
Thank youuuu!! Appreciate that. Glad it can bd useful. Happy touring!! Just editing our first camp tour with our toddler... pls subscribe, as is the youtube saying! X
Already done! Keep up the good work and congratulations on the new addition to your family. 😊
Hey Matt, just wondering which bikes you both used? Did you use your old bikes like you mentioned? Just wondering to see how good a setup I need.
Hi, full details of our bikes in this video near the start, they were prettu basic but did the job and uncomplicated thus easy to repair if remote!
Thank you so much for this. The best bike +travel vlog I've ever watched. I particularly like the small things you include, simply getting on the ferry for example. Small stuff for the person who's done it but if you've yet to venture abroad on a bike it's good info.
Youre so welcome and we're so pleased its helpful! Do you have cycle touring plans?
Planning this for the summer of 22; Amsterdam to Andermatt. No camping though.
Excellent!! Hope this video gets you even more excited for it. Its a wonderful journey thank you for watching Debbie!
Loved it 😊😊
Looks amazing! Very inspiring.
I'm so impressed with this film! Informative, enjoyable, and altogether inspiring! Just want to head off now!
Thanks Philly!!!! So glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Very inspiring, thank you for the informative narration as well as the excellent footage. Very inspiring.
Thanks Adam, we really hope the videos help people plan their own trip and we found there wasn't really any video guide before we did it. Such a great trip, miss those days. Family rides starting next year...!
