Oh yeah, I bought a used MPC One last year too. Barely used it. But a couple of weeks ago Roger Linn gave his approval for the new MPCs in a video on his channel. I've always found the MPC workflow and structure unnecessarily cumbersome but now that your video has also appeared in my feed I might just give it another chance.
Low Heat!! 👑🫡🙏 the workflow is so confusing at first and then it clicks and everything is super fast, but getting there is honestly so frustrating that I understand when people bounce off. That Roger Linn video was awesome too
The workflow of the newer MPC's (One, Live, etc) is drastically different than the previous generations. It's a lot more complicated and confusing. The MPC One isn't that hard to learn but the older ones are so much easier, but have less bells and whistles.
The fact that this device isn't getting absolutely championed at the highest level is absurd to me. You're so right, it can do everything the X, X SE, the Live II and all the others can do, minus some memory and knob functionality on the UI. But as far as the guts and the capability of it, it's right there with anything out. I love the MPC One. I sold mine becuase I was strapped for cash, now I'm regretting it.
This machine is a work of art. It literally has people practically abandoning their DAW set-up. I have 2 now because I never want to be without an MPC One. 😁♥️👍👍
Me too; €500 with a flight case included. Had an mc101 previous which i sold once I got the MPC. Just started up the learning curve but so far I think Its a wonderful machine and am looking forward to getting recording with it. Love the groove; not a million miles away from my own stuff, maybe a bit lighter.
I got mine used for under 400 bucks and it’s the best hardware investment I’ve ever made. I own almost all the Elektron boxes and tons of other random synths and grooveboxes, and none of them come close to the utility and versatility of the MPC. The synths and effects sound surprisingly awesome and characterful, and the workflow clicked with me instantly - I find myself naturally building song structures rather than jamming on single patterns for ages like I do with the Elektron boxes. It’s so easy to get stuff off the MPC and into my DAW in comparison too. I can build out a whole track and have the stems on my computer ready for mixing and editing in less than an hour on the MPC. It genuinely makes devices that cost me four times as much seem like a joke, and it’s incredible that they packed so much value and utility into one machine. Great for traveling as well, since it was so cheap I wouldn’t be very fussed if something happened to it. I’d just pop the SD card out or load a backup onto a new one and grab another. If the same happened to my laptop or one of my Elektron boxes I’d flip out.
Last month I bought a One Plus for 5 dollars short of 400.....So 395,- (euros to be exact) Paired it with a 4 in 6 out external USB sound"card" unit that I had laying around and a good Midi Keyboard and now it does even better than the MPC "keys61"
I keep on saying (as an ex mpc one owner and now mpc live 2 owner) that the mpc one with built in battery, speakers and mic input could be a real game changer for its size and weight.
I bought my 1st ever MPC One + almost a year ago from Amazon ,always wanted a MPC years ago but there 2,000 price tags made no sense. Happy with my MPC one +. Overall very happy. Also if Akai could do an update to introduce 3rd party VST plugins as an option that would be awesome too for standalone.
That isn’t going to happen without major hardware and software redesign. It’s a sampler sequencer with plugin and expansion support. Seems easier to autosample the VST patches you need into the MPC, use the MPC Software to access VSTs, or use the MPC in controller mode with the software.
This machine is a work of art. It literally has people practically abandoning their DAW set-up. I have 2 now because I never want to be without an MPC One. 😁♥️👍👍
it’s pretty new but people let them go for very cheap now that the plus is out. I think lots of people perceive the base model as a downgrade even though there’s not much difference. If you don’t care about Bluetooth or WiFi the old ones are a major steal right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if the prices are also related to anticipation of a potential hardware refresh now that 3.0 is out, but akai seems to support their MPC line fairly well even after new models drop.
Decided to go with the MPC One Plus (saving up for it, I don't own it just yet). I've been cooking up in the desktop version of the MPC software a lot lately, so I think I should be ready once I get it.
I bought a MPC One + 3 weeks ago and I've never been more happy with a new piece of hardware. Once I got through a bunch of tutorials and started understanding how the stuff works I just fell in love with it. I'm a synthwave guy, and this thing is pretty awesome for that. I come from ipads with Drambo, and I absolutely love Drambo, but I think I now prefer working on the MPC. I did not expect the pads to be as expressive as they are. Hard to go back to just a screen after having something I can slap around. If you want to make synthwave on these, get the Jura plugin for this. It's a Juno replica and it does everything from basses to pads and stabs and fantastic arps for that warm 80s vibe. OPx-4 is a really good FM synth you can buy as well, it's a bit tedious to program though (that's FM for you..) There's even a moog model D clone you can buy, so this is kind of a powerhouse for 80s synth nostalgia. And there's the Flavor Pro plugin with the best VHS preset I have ever heard. Love this thing.
I bought my original black MPC One used for about $500 three years ago. Just a few days ago, traded in that same MPC One to put towards my newly purchased MPC Key 37. I have the Fabric Collection installed on it as a trial. I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase this plug-in and activate it because it has all of the essential basic traditional instrument sounds needed to develop a composition (pianos, bass guitars, strings, etc....). Considering the fact the Key 37 is a keyboard MPC, I think Fabric should have been included with it as standard, even if that pushes the price of the MPC Key 37 up a couple hundred dollars. It's definitely worth it. MPC Key-37 with Fabric is an ultimate power house portable workstation. WOW, It's such a nice piece. Anyway, that track you made sounds awesome. Keep doing what you're doing. When you picked up that guitar and started playing, the track just went to a whole new level!!!
I have both the X and a One both OG and in all sincerity there is no discernible difference apart from the QLinks. The X in my opinion also lacks some of the shortcut buttons on the fascia that the One has too. I love my One for its portability, I installed a battery inside its case that gets me around 10 hours of play out of it from a full a charge. My X never leaves the studio and is in both standalone and controller modae, depending upon what duties it will be undertaking. I would deffo buy another One just as a spare... Just in case... One Love! One People!!!
i got an mpc one plus and just ordered a push 2 ..im hoping i still find a use for both. the limited audio channels are best avoided in the same way you would do on ableton...record to pads so you have individual effects and controls. and a ton of slots for audio
It'd be interesting to have your experience on this second hand buy compared to a new one : are paid plugins and extensions carried over ? Is it tied to the device or the user account? Did you factory reset it ? All the little practical details.
I picked up a used Live2 on Reverb and only some of the plugins would transfer over to me (OP-X, and Delay Pro) from the previous owner. If I remember right, he said he couldn't transfer the others because he had bought them in a bundle and there was no option to allow it. I ended up factory resetting it when it arrived, and replaced the SSD with a new one just to be sure the unit was clean. When I reset my account on it, the two extra plugins installed just fine. Als0, the stock plugins & samples on the MPCs are impressive, but I found the real powerhouse feature is using Keygroups with samples from Splice. Hack them up a bit, apply effects, resample them, and it can be really fun to experiment with.
hey dylan, i know you get this question a lot. but as someone who has the maschine +, do you vibe with MPC Live / One more these days than the maschine work flow? i know they're all different but maschine isn't doing it for me these days so looking at mpcs
Great work! It is interesting to see, that you set up a standing table with the gear you are using for this project. Are you always switching the gear used in order to keep focus? In the last weeks, I often find myself just putting 1-2 devices on my empty 2nd desk and love the focus it provides me. Cheers!
I am! I often rotate out which gear is on the stands, although I don’t have enough shelf space for storage so the Ableton Push 3 often lives on the stand permanently

I have owned the Mpc live (OG) since it came out. Still works great. I did one of those make 30 beats in 30 days challenges and was able to find a way to make good quality music quickly. Over the last few years I’ve gone back to a daw setup w/ outboard gear… but at some point every year do go back and bang out some beats on the Mpc
I’m a new beginner & sadly where I live in Pennsylvania they’re no MPC one users that I can sit down with to learn my home set up which includes a MPC One + a fully expanded Roland JV-1080 midi sound module a M-Audio midi controller a MacBook 💻 Pro two mics a scarlet focusrite 2i2 a pair of silver Rokit KRK monitors & a turntable for sampling
@ I’ve been weight buying the MPC xse for my studio but honestly I really don’t need it. I have the studio 2, the 1000 & the 5000. Everything works well together and I showcase it on my channel. But, I want to upgrade from the studio 2 with something I can leave on the desk next to the 5000. This has quickly become an option because I prefer the layout over the live. The pads being off to the side makes no sense to me. I’ll have to get over the pad size but as a unit that works with every gig it’s starting to make sense.
i followed recently and your content is amazing. keep it up! i don’t now much about gear but slowly getting there with vids like this so thanks dude :)!

I had a journey with the new MPCs and I've landed on really enjoying the MPC One. I no longer see it as MPC vs. SP vs. Digitakt vs. Maschine Plus vs. Push 3, etc. I think each of these are all unique and useful for their own purposes, each having its strengths, with some pretty common areas of overlap between them all. This has helped with my GAS and also with always feeling like what I have is inadequate to make what I feel is meaningful music. That being said, I totally agree the value of a used MPC One is very high bang for the buck. P.s. How is your "theory" knowledge when it comes to making music?
