Came back to see some of your MPC videos because I returned to the MPC platform and got a One Plus last month. Definitely can relate to a lot of what you're describing about your experience here. Definitely trying to find my motivation even considering making videos myself, but I don't want to get wrapped up in a lot of the nastier elements of youtube, where it basically becomes free advertisement for these companies. Definitely something to ponder. Balancing being a piano teacher and doing commissioned mixing work with making music for enjoyment has been a challenge too. Hope you're doing well and that you're feeling rejuvenated and inspired, man.
Thanks man, I really appreciate the kind words and consideration. There can be a lot of joy in making videos, but I definitely got to a point of burn out. I'll be back though, not at the same pace I was before, but I'm looking forward to the future of the channel for sure.
Firstly, let me thank you for reminding me I had a Minifreak! After watching the start of your video I stopped and had a rummage around Sheepy Towers till I found it! I finally worked out how the sequencer functions and started a new tune on it! Thanks! :D As to the other stuff, I don’t know what to tell you. I enjoy your vids immensely and find them inspiring and helpful and fun and honest and real. I just hope you feel better and find a healthy way forward. I am significantly older than you, so my motivations are different. Rather than fame or fortune, my motivation these days seems to be “I was here. And I made this.” I’m certainly not in a position to tell you how to move forward, but would still give three pieces of advice: 1. Make time for your friends. Always. I honestly believe they are the best of us, and we are better people, because of them. 2. Do take breaks. Do look after yourself. 3. Get a cat. Cats rule. That’s all I got! Thanks for what you do, and all the best to you, sir! *sheepyhugs* :D
Thank you!! 🖤 I appreciate this, and I have considered a cat but I am definitely allergic. My ex had two cats I really loved tho so I might make the sacrifice of not being able to breath through my nose haha
I feel for ya dude. But I also love this style of videos! The sort of from-the-heart dialogue over musings on synths is super genuine and cool. ❤ PS some very lovely sounds you achieved here.
I’ve been really invested in the channel In the past and have been putting off sending any comments lately regarding the current state of the channel. I wanna help as someone who felt close to where you kept us in your creative journey trough the videos; But I don’t want to interfere with your process regarding where your at with Dylan Paris on RUclips… it’s a delicate matter and the choices are yours. All I can say is I’m really glad you had this real talk here today. It’s the first time I feel you let me close as a viewer in weeks… i will stay peeping what comes out every weekend, it’s still something I look forward to. Still rooting for you and excited to see you find a new way of doing things that inspires you ❤
First time watching this channel.... Dude take a break. How can you be creative if your not feeding yourself with new experiences . I make videos, i get that pressure to make something every week but taking a break than coming back and goin hard is a great thing. My channel is not successful so dont take it as advice for ur channel but advice from person to person. And get back out there and start dating. Life is short and u will regret the time u spent editing instead of experiencing. On a side note i wish i could play the keys like you thats awesome . Best of luck
Thank you for the kind words! I’m both honored and embarrassed this is the first video of mine you saw, but grateful also haha. And yeah, I think I’m gonna take this weekend off from videos for sure.
Been on a long break, went to Europe for a month, working a lot more on my album as well. I will be back but I wont ever go back to weekly videos cause that was not sustainable and burned me out bad
The algorithm is fucked. It is a joke, it is terrible, it ruins everything. They do everything they can to encourage you to NOT watch what you want/find who you want. I fight RUclips daily. Trying to watch what I want throughout the day. I don't have hours to dedicate to what I want too, I try and playlist everything up so I can pause/start throughout my day. This doesn't work at all, like if I save the playlist, so I can switch devices, that playlist doesn't let me add anything else too it even though it lets me. I've not been able to dedicate time in front of a device recently and have lost shows that I wanted to see. things I added to a list, poof. sometimes RUclips just poofs them because a news article forced a RUclips video so the 'premium' feature goes OH YOU WANT TO WATCH THAT THING YOU PAUSED and wipes out my playlist. Which is an example, why I didn't see your video here until today, and I didn't get to watch your hour long one because it's scrolled off the sub screen and I can't make a playlist that puts unwatched videos from things I subscribe to so I can watch through it. It encourages me to unsubscribe to things because my subscription list gets jammed with so much junk from channels that post a lot (more brand like stuff) vs individual creators which made RUclips what it is. I enjoy what you do, when I can. Unfortunately RUclips doesn't value that, or make it easier for me to keep up, and doesn't reward you for that value. I wish I could say I knew how I found you, but I don't, might have been searching for a thing when I wanted to buy my first synth last year. (Korg Minilouge XD so if you did a video on that ever, that might be why) or maybe it was native instruments when I bought my keyboard at Christmas after learning I really didn't want a synth first I wanted a midi keyboard hooked to my computer. No clue, but I'm here.
I appreciate this insight. So frustrating to hear how difficult the algorithm is making it to find stuff you want to watch / subscribed to! Appreciate you being here for sure!
Wow. That was depressing, man. I'am sorry you're going through that. How the old bands did it, is they used to take at least one music class at a junior college, so that they were always around other musicians. And then they would gradually go through each person they would meet, "jamming" with them in a very light casual way, to see if they "clicked" with each other musically, and in other ways as well. The point being, is to find people who are your creative and musical match. Its like chemistry or Astrology. You dont have to "believe in it", but there are people who mix musically and creatively very well, and those who dont. But when you find that person or persons, you can create far more and better music than you can possibly by yourself, because you inspire each other in new and unexpected ways. And if you can find the really great matches.... thats when real artistic greatness can happen. Don't make it anything too heavy when you're doing this with people. Just ask them if they'd like to get together and jam and see if anything comes of it. If not, dont worry about it and just move on to the next person. You'll know without trying, because when you meet the right people, magic happens right away. At least musically. I hope thats some help to you to get out of your rut. Also there are other ways to meet musicians than college. Just jam as much as you can until you can find those people you click with. Oh, and also... Regularly get away from it all - BY YOURSELF - in nature. Nature is the great rejuvenator and inspirer. Go on adventures out into the world without much planning. It will refresh your mind and soul. GOOD LUCK BUD !
