      FYI words and the dialect are often different from Manila to Cebu. What things are called in one place might be different in another because Cebu is part of the Visayan Islands and we speak Visaya! 💙

      The most common areas are in jeepneys! There is a saying “Kung sa jeepney, at ang phone mo sa knee, hindi ka magulat, kung wala lahat.”, in english “In the jeepney, and your phone is on your knee, dont be surprised, if you lose everything.” because you can easily lose everything on the jeepney by being careless.

    Philippines is an archipelago of 7,641 islands 🇵🇭 There's alot to explore!
    *That's why it's more Fun in the Philippines 😁 Top 3 tips:
    1. It's an English-speaking country. Don't be afraid to ask anywhere you go especially in small stores/sari-sari stores because they can give you helpful info to save time and money as well. You can also buy basic necessities in a sari-sari store like toiletries, sim cards (not all have), food and beverages. Learn how to bargain when buying stuff esp when you are in the market area or in services that they offer, tour etc.
    2. Be prepared of the uncontrollable factors like weather (sometimes it can suddenly rain,, summer season is best to travel if you like a perfect tan around March to June. Don't forget your Sunblock and umbrella) and severe traffic (esp in the cities Manila, Makati, EDSA. Not too much traffic in the provinces) can take your patience out. Make sure to leave early if you have plans. Just condition yourself that it will not always come your way so that you can enjoy your trip. And be prepared for extra cash if any additional expenses arise.
    3. Be safe and cautious Always. Don't flaunt jewelries or expensive gadgets it is eyesore for thiefs, robbers, scammers etc. It is basic in any country not to leave your things unattended. Have coins/smaller bills ready in a coin purse coz you will always need it in transportation like jeepneys, tricycles, taxi and grab or in buying in sari sari stores. This will also avoid bringing out your wallet full of cash coz you don't know again maybe someone is already looking out for it esp if you are in public and crowded places.
    *Added tip😎
    Do a research or watch vlogs and reviews about the country you want to visit esp for first time travellers. If you already have a local friend in the Philippines, it's better to ask for the places where you want to visit or for any recommendations. If you're lucky your friend might join your trip and tour you around as well. Filipinos are hospitable and respectful so we expect that our visitors will also be as well.
    Hope you enjoy your next trip in our country!!!🏖️🏞️ 🏄‍♂️🏕️🌈

I am not quite sure how you managed to get out of NAIA without being offered sim cards by a dozen vendors, but just look for the Smart or Globe logo, a few pesos and they'll fit it in for you as well, sell you a scratch card (fixed price) load, and even enter that and set you up with a day or week unlimited data and calls. mat colderley, I have been to the Philippines many times, for long periods of time, and I am not concerned. This area is also where my wife and her family grew up. We will be fine. I know what I am getting myself in to.

    • @JayDollarhide
      @JayDollarhide 6 лет назад

      Our hostel is just more or less for fun. We have a house in Cebu, a house in Leyte, and the property where we will build the hostel. I am really easy going, the pace doesn't bother me, I have been all over SE Asia and will continue to travel all over that area of the world, and know how everything goes. My wife taught school in Cebu and has connections all over the area, her sister and brother are pretty influential and will also be helpful, the family is in good financial shape, and if anything serious happens to me health wise I will head back to the US. My wife and I have good retirements coming, and I will continue to pay into my Medicare back here in the US so I am not too concerned about much, healthwise. If something happens I will just have to deal with it, I guess...

      Not checking email the night before. We arrived at domestic airport in Manila for a flight to Siargao only to find out that our 10am flight was moved to 1400. And we always make it a rule to arrive at the airport 3 hrs before any flight, so we were stuck from 0700-1400. Cebu pac did email us the night before but we missed it. We had a 4y/o with us too. Longest day ever.

    Your videos are always good and that's a given. What I most appreciate is your delivery. Why, you speak in educated English and you are not prone to repeated hyperboles to empasize your point. Neither do you resort to exaggerated adjectives that are grating to the ears. Your videos are also well researched giving us the impression that your videos are not just for the barely educated and the peasants. And oh, the gentleman in Divert Living is I can see a gentleman just by his language which surprises me considering he is a military. In the Philippines men who join the military usually come from plebeian families and join the army to help put food on their table. Not so with that white gentleman who is with that Asiatic lady. Bienvenidos a filipinas y vaya con Dios desde los latinos de asia.
