I hate that as soon as the camera showed the mom, the crowd and host were like "wow! So pretty! The daughter must be so jealous!". The daughter is a child, it should not be about beauty, but health
Honestly 150 lbs is not even that much of a big deal, like imagine how this poor girls mental health is... Her family doesn’t even protect her from society, and that’s so sad.
@@MandySuju age is not the matter of weight. Its purely height. There r girls in my grade that are 5'9 but the average weight for a 13 year old is 125-136 but if they weighed that much it would be scarily effective to their health. They should weigh around 150-160. Or a girl that's 4'8 should be like 70-80. Its not at all about age. But height.
april00026000 but it’s not just anybody it’s his sister. One persons business is the family’s business. What if she’s bullied? The major reason why the teen suicide rate is high is because families don’t make it their business to know what’s going on in each other’s lives. Studying isn’t easy either. I’m not saying he’s better for not studying but he’s worried about his sister and that is an awesome thing.
@@SaraH-jn5db that's understandable but if your way of showing support to someone is by putting them down then you're not doing anything . Trust me , I did that too and I ended up hurting close people.

“i’m afraid her classmates might tease her” “i could help her if i hurt her feelings” can you believe that these two quotes are said by the same person??
He's not wrong. Different people need different types of reinforcement to push them to do things. His logic was if he bullies her instead of the actual bullies at school, it would be out of love, because he loves his sister and doesn't want her to face bullies because in korea there's no doubt her classmates wouldn't make fun of her, and that's why her brother is trying to get her to lose weight.
Yep, my mom used to Tell me a Lot of mean things because I was overweight since kid, " no one Will Love tou because you are fat, you Will never get a boyfriend, why cant you be pretty and skinny like all your friends?". Of course, I aways had super low self-steem and for a long time I tried a Lot of diets, the only time everyone gave me real compliments were when I was 1,57 m and 45kg, " wow How skinny you are, this is the right weight for you, you can never ler this Go over". Well I had a limit, and suffer with depression, I couldnt be so skinny for too long, she tought insulting me was the Key to encourage, but for me It was humiliating. The funny thing is, NO ONE NEVER called me fat, or make Fun of my weight, ONLY MY MOTHER AND FAMILY.
Ara Isabella To be honest when my family humiliated me like that, it encouraged me. Although tough love isn’t for everyone it is for some. This family just doesn’t realize tough love doesn’t work for everyone.
this is just cruel. she’s a child, she shouldn’t be basing her whole life around her weight it can cause low self esteem and eating disorders. they should support her to lose weight slowly instead of teasing her and making her take pills.
Rayna Tumbeva yes, i’ve struggled with both binge eating and restrictive eating disorders but the point here is that shaming a child and forcing her to lose weight in an unhealthy manner can cause an immense amount of issues for her, on top of that it’s just cruel.
@@edamame22 my point was that I don't like the way you used 'can cause eating disorder'. As I said, she might already have one and such comments encourage people to continue thinking that EDs are always related to restricting yourself and low weight. This will only fuel the ignorance of BED and the worsening problem with obesity. Their way of doing it isn't right, but that's not what my criticism is aimed at.
my family called me 'pig' my whole life....It didn't affect me then but when i went to high school my self esteem tanked...these things have lasting effect people
I feel you. When I started 4th grade, my family calls me "ugly pig". It lowered my self-esteem, to the point that whenever I walk outside and talking with people, my head is always lowered. I am scared whenever I'm in a crowd. I can't speak in front of class. It's really hard when you grow up experiencing that, especially when it all began in your family.
@@yssayodico9837 I feel you. I went through the same thing. Though I'm an adult now, their words still echoes through my mind. Sometimes it's your family who pushes you into depression and then calls you weird for not socialising with people or not dating and not being normal.
this family seems like a recipe for an eating disorder, i feel so sorry for the daughter. she’s so so cute she doesn’t deserve to be put down like that :(
Exactly, what kind of mother encourages a daughter to take diet pills? I'm assuming they're either diet repressers or laxatives. Either way, neither are a healthy way to lose weight.
Being obese is a huge problem, it literally kills. Diet and working out is more than needed for her, the only problem is the way the mother talks to her, she's not helping with being rude to her own daughter. sorry for my English
This made me so uncomfortable holY crap I can’t imagine how the girl feels- Having your self esteem attacked at such a young age is HELLA damaging any sane parent should know that
if you know South Korean society, you lo know how cruel they are to chubby people, especially girls, this is insane. Everyone could say it to yr face that you gained a lot weight recently and making fun of your body and figure and no one would ever feel this is not right. It is so depressed to live in that ambient.
The father is so precious, as someone who has never had a father figure in my life it really made me emotional how much the father loves his daughter. And the daughter is so cute, I think if the whole family tries to eat healthy all together and motivate her by complimenting and not by insulting her (lookin at her brother right now) she’ll be able to lose weight healthily.
The brother wasn't trying to insult her tho. He thought if he hurt her feelings she would start exercising . He was trying to help her, but it wasn't a good way.

Usually, when an older family member yells at you or insults you, it's because they understand that the world is really judgemental. If a family member insults you, you'll feel sad but you'll eventually move on because you have an unconditional loving bond with them and you know that being mean is not their only intention. If you get coddled your entire life and hear those insults in the real world whilst totally unprepared, you're actually going to be very devastated. If there was absolutely no societal negativity for fat women, then obviously the brother wouldn't call her a pig.
yeah same also i feel like the hosts think of it just as another reality show for fun and some things they say are clearly embarrassing the poor girl who really doesnt deserve all this critism shes only young still and everyone tying to make her a perfect figure
Ji-hyun doctor patient confidentiality doesn’t apply in a situation like this... it would be fine to bring in a psychologist because the issues are already being presented publicly and there is no obligation for the info to stay private so long as the “patient” is willing to share on TV.
Right? he's such a loving father to his daughter. that should never be taken for granted because though love should be unconditional between parent and child. That is not always the case
I think the daughter and the dad are emotional eaters that means that when they are upset and stressed out they will tend to eat more then usual(binge out*) hence why they gain weight...
They almost always have professional advice, it's just because they don't bring them out. When you've watched the program for long enough you can tell.
(^Yeah) If you've been with the show for while, you'd know that they usually bring in or send the person to the doctor/dietitian (with a case such as this). It's surprising that they brought in a professional celebrity trainer but, not too surprising to see them bring in someone with further knowledge on the situation. Especially if the counselors do not have enough knowledge prior to this meet. 😞
I’m so glad boss yang was here. This is what happens when they have an expert on this show. They really should start inviting psychologists, counsellors, fitness trainers and medical experts on this show if they really want to help people. Inviting idols and celebrities isn’t going to do much in my opinion.
Love that the trainer gave a fun way to exercise for her! When it comes to kids, it is important to make excising fun and stimulating, making a game out of it is excellent. Her family thought forcing her to diet, swallow pills, exercise and insult her would be effective, geesh i wonder why that didn't work?
True, That is how they should help her instead giving her adult weigh loss routines.(they said it earlier) Plus her mother shouldn't give her diet pills at a young age.
Coach Yang has always been an intense but a fun coach in all the series or shows I've seen him featured on. So it's no surprise he was really helpful and stern towards her family!
I hate when people say "if you lose a little weight, you'll be prettier". It's so shallow and really a horrible thing to say. It should be out of concern for health and NEVER beauty.
From my personal experience, it felt more like something meant to encourage me. When people around me told me that if I lose weight I'd be prettier, it wasn't insulting. I knew they cared about my health and when I lost the weight, they told me that I had worked really hard and that it payed off because I looked better. Of course there are people who use it as a backhanded compliment, so perhaps it depends on context.
@LifeMusic not true maybe she would feel confident enough in her own body if people didn't say bad stuff to her all the time. When a person is confident in their own body they're the prettiest.
true, but you have to find a way to motivate someone to lose weight. in this case she's only a kid and she probably doesn't care or understand what being unhealthy means. however it's very easy to understand what beauty is
@@kc-un7by I agree. Children, and people in general in my opinion, should be more focused on health. Being called a pig will hurt someone's view of themselves and to grow up with such a negative notion of yourself is painful. I don't think the way her family treats her is right at all, but I think I can kind of understand why they act that way as I come from an Asian family as well. They want what's best for you, but might be really harsh in their words. I haven't finished watching this, so I may say something they already have, but I feel it would be better for her to lose weight if her family encouraged healthy habits. From the beginning, it seemed they were calling her names and her mother was buying diet pills. Sure, some people use it as motivation to lose weight, but for others, it"s much more damaging. It's also frustrating if you try to lose weight but fail every time. It makes you think, "maybe I'll never be able to lose weight and I should stop losing weight." I think the family should've been much more encouraging and kind. Losing weight is something you do for yourself first. Doing it for others makes it painful and less fun than it could be.

I don’t like the fact how they have a child (everyone is a child at heart okay ) to have her stand in front of all these adults criticizing her body and how she is eating when most of these people are total strangers and just making faces at her by her looks and beauty it is truly sad how our world is today and how we need to meet to “high beauty standard” especially in other foreign countries. Everyone is beautiful in there own special way, and if we don’t love our selfs or don’t like what we see in the mirror we can change it, And some people (NOT SAYING NAMES) but some people in general ask why is my son or daughter depressed, self conscious, over weight, as a parent it’s not the child’s fault they are like that, it’s there mental health that needs more attention, nor is it the parents fault either, yeah they are responsible for what they put into there child’s body, but for them to yell at the children making the, feel bad about themselves is a whole other thing

It could be a hormonal problem, she is about to hit puberty. Finally they got someone with a little bit of knowledge, though I wish they would've also called a nutritionist that could give healthy diet tips that are actually doable for her!
Yeah I was going to say that. Also they are finding out so much about obesity these days that's not necessarily JUST calories in/calories out, even if that is part of it. All the hormones and chemicals are interacting... Stress and cortisol, lack of sleep increasing blood sugar and the hunger hormone ghrelin, genetics, gut microbiome. Obesity brings additional negative health consequences to unhealthy, but unhealthy eating is bad period - even for skinny people.
@@wolee03 yup, for sure. I would be more concerned about her health than her figure, was I her mother. Though I get that social pressure could also be pretty damaging to her psyche, especially during formative years and kids can be so mean. I hope she can find a healthy lifestyle that best suits her
You also need to address the behavioral aspect. Yes lots of people love eating, obese people included, but typically there's a lot to consider emotionally there. The dad came out and said why he likes to buy his kids food. It's obviously not to harm them or make their lives tough. He has an emotional memory tied to being able to do that for his kids that is driving his behavior. So, I think that piece is just as important as learning about nutrition. Most fat people know the most 😊, but getting at the root of why it's difficult to make changes is key. God bless her and good luck.
Duda Campos i was thinking the same thing. Obviously it’s something that should still be of a concern and should be looked into so that she can grow up to live a healthy life. But weight is sometimes associated with hormonal problems like pcos. And that requieres medication and more specific solutions to losing weight
hi as someone who has been bullied and teased for my weight since i was seven by family, classmates, and adults, being called a pig is really hurtful and genuinely only makes a person feel really sucky about themselves, but will not make them want to lose weight necessarily. i spent so much time in my younger years crying myself to sleep, and she probably has too. there are nicer ways to tell someone you're worried rather than calling them a pig or telling them to stop eating. i genuinely cried watching this because i can relate to her so much and i hope that her home life becomes a healthier environment for her.
There are definitely nicer ways of going about it.. people need to understand that what they say to young people has the ability to ruin their self-confidence
ive been called fat for almost my whole childhood but i never gave a damn about those insults cause i love me for who i am and if she wants to lose weight, she should do it for herself and not for others :/
Honestly it's an actual health issue especially with her age. Yes koreans are judgmental but it is really unhealthy for her to be overweight so young. If it doesnt change now she will likely be overweight her whole life
Sara Grace But calling her names and not actually helping her is more dangerous than that. It could make her fall into a type of depression, and possibly lead to suicide
hm, that's not really the case here. obesity is a growing issue, its a disease that can and kills everyday. She needs help to change habits and develop a healthier relationship with food, and her family is clearly very worried around her future and her well-being, they are just transmitting it the wrong way, with can make everything worse.
The people around her should work better and stop being so mean, but she is obese and that's bad for her health not just now but if she doesn't lose weight then is also bad for her future. It is not just about her looks
She's a child. She is too young to go through it herself, I think the whole family should do sports and activities together and eat healthy. A child won't understand why its only her having to do this when the rest of the family doesn't. It will get better over time if she continues well. Glad they have a professional this time.
Her dad is too precious! You can tell he loves her so much and isn't too concerned with her appearance, he just wants her to be happy and enjoy her food since he couldn't as a child!
I think that the brother and the mom need to stop yelling at her when she eats too much and start encouraging her when she eats healthy Also I think her dad should diet with her (cuz he's also overweight) but also I think it will motivate her more to have someone going through it with her and they can hold each other accountable if one of them eats too much
Maintaining a healthy weight takes a lifestyle change, it’s definitely not something you should lean into fast diets/diet pills for. She’s so young I feel bad that so much damage is being done to her confidence & psyche. Not to mention that some people over-eat because of anxiety/stress and her environment is probably adding to that. She’s literally a kid. There are so many better ways to make being active fun, and so many key questions to ask rather than yelling at her for eating.
Exactly this. It'd be so much easier if it was done positively. My parents encouraged me and my siblings to be active by doing activities and sports we actually enjoyed. We helped with (and learned how to) create tasty, cheap and healthy meals in the kitchen. Building healthy habits in a way that we learned to enjoy and live by was so much more effective because it wasn't a chore or something to hate. It was just a way of life. I was chubby as a kid and healthy as a horse then gradually lost the excess over time. No stress, no condemnation, just progress in a natural and healthy way. Raising a snowflake child isn't the way to do it, but you can do discipline without berating your kid or calling them names.
Her dad is also probably and « enabler » because he loves her so much he can’t help but give her food. In a way it’s also kinda toxic. Just watch My 600lb life and you’ll understand that most of obese people are like that because people enable them to eat as much as they want :[
Noémie Gador this is a super blanket statement & I don’t know if the statistics exist to back it up. I think it’s definitely more of a case by case thing, and I also don’t think this girl is *obese*, personally.
pckitty She’s not, but if her dad keeps feeding her she will MAYBE become one. Trust me. My grandma fed all her children too much because they asked for food all the time and now everyone is obese. Enablers do exist not everywhere but they do.
pckitty she was diagnosed as obese by a medical professional. When determining weight percentile for children doctors take into account growth, height, and weight. I don’t know what you think “looks” obese, but I trust the doctor more
She is overweight and I do advise her to lose weight. But firstly I want her to do it for herself, it’s a huge struggle that I also dealt as a child, but once I was diagnosed with diabetes and even a heart problem I saw my parents crying and blaming themselves. I knew then I needed to lose weight. The first time I tried to lose weight was by making myself vomit, after someone in my school found out and told a teacher, a meeting was arranged and I slowly but healthy lost weight. It’s more than alright to be chubby but when it affects your health, when you get tired of walking within minutes, it affects living out your life in my opinion. There were so many things I wanted to do as a child/teenager but I never did because I was too embarrassed. Anyways I just hope she loves her body, because she’s very cute and their family is savage asf so I’m rooting for her to lose weight healthily! It’s gonna be very tough but I promise you it’s gonna be worth it and you don’t need to lose weight until your skinny but be the weight you think is healthy for your height, age and what weight you will love or if you already love your weight now I think it’s important to eat more healthily and do workouts at home or even take walks. It helped improve my relationship with my parents by going out for walks with them so yeah xD you can do it!

She is young, she probably hasn't gone through puberty yet and had her growth spurt. I think she will and she swims 5 days a week so a lot of it could be muscle too. She is adorable and I think the trampoline will be a great way for her to work out. Even dad needs to get on the trampoline. He couldn't do the tae bae bo squats without being out of breath. This young girl will blossom! Just wait and see. But she could also take after her dad and have that body structure. No matter she is a cutie!
How is being skinny normal and being fat abnormal? I think being fat is normal too. I don't think being fat makes you 'special' or 'different'. it's true she needs to lose weight for her own benefit but it's not something that needs to be done quickly and with intensive measures that will drain her. It should be a step-by-step process that is encouraging and positive.
“I can relate... I only weighed over 110 lbs” hold up lemme just convert my obese country standards to Korean standards for a quick second bc I’m tired of being flabbergasted at their “onlys”
ikr! like, if you r like 5'5 and suppose to be around 120 lbs, in Korea, u would have to be like 105 or something. If they saw me, they would think I'm a giant
Tbh what her brother is saying is logical,he is worried that his sister's classmates would tease her.... But the thing is He should motivate her sister with soft words rather than the words like 'Pig'✌🏻
DO an ARMY it‘s not logical. It‘s stupid and mean. It doesn‘t make sense at all. Calling a young person pig won‘t make them lose weight, It will make them lose confidence
@@ezzfy1 the OC didn't say calling her a pig is logical he clearly said him being worried about her sister's classmates teasing her is logical then said his brother should have used kinder methods. Now let's see how your lack of comprehensive ability twist what i'm writing lol
Anon • hunny🥺. The brother says that he BULLIES her to make her lose weight. That‘s the main point of the video. He teases her to make her lose weight. It doesn‘t matter if he‘s worried or not. The person said what he SAYS is logical. She/He didn‘t say that it‘s logical that he‘s worried.
i think one of the factor for her not losing weight is bc she's not doing this for herself but for her mother and brother so hypothetically, if she were to lose some weight later, chances are that she'll gain it back again (by binge eating later from the losing weight pressure) because it's not for HER who's dedicated to change but for someone else like i said before. Instead of forcing the poor girl to eat less and do excessive exercise while getting annoyed that she will be hungrier later bc obv she will, swimming takes up a lot of energy, they should instead encourage her and tell her the risk of obesity and definitely not nag and bully her like the mother and brother.
Finally someone capable to help! This guy should support his younger sister but he keeps talkin shit...Koreans are so honest when it comes to weight..keep ur opinion to yourself, she's just a child not a training dog!
What her family says to her isnt that bad. It's better for her to lose weight now then when shes older cuz it's going to get worse. Koreans hate fat ppl br and doubt you know that. @@MJkingofmusiclover I'm not taking either side here, just wanted to point this out - you said this "...don’t go around generalizing a whole country and its people just because of your single experience", which is great, but then you said this "...the only thing that makes seem Koreans harsh is that they’re much more honest compared to westerners who won’t tell you what they think about you but judge your harshly behind your back" which is generalizing a whole country and its people. Unless you have actual statistics that show this is true, you're being extremely hypocritical right now.
The Dad is so adorable!! I love this family so much xD Thank God they came here so their brother could change his treatment towards his sister. When I was around her age my brother started calling me fat too. I have always thought I was fat while growing up ( so I always wanted to diet ) but when I looked back at my old pictures, I wasn't fat at all but he made me believed that I was until I graduated high school. But now I am a grown up and I admit that I am fat now like for real (but I am trying to eat less and a lit bit healthier atm) hahahaha. Anyway, I hope the girl will lose weight and start eating a lit bit healthier from now on!! And the brother will help her + stop hurting her feelings. It's okay to tease your siblings but know your limit as everyone has feelings. Oh oh, I'd like to end this comment by saying this family is so precious!!

yes, think of her physical health but also consider her mental health. Although I know her family is saying these things ultimately because they love and care for her, I think they should think a little further, and beyond what they see. Maybe words of encouragement instead of words that will scar her?

Instead of putting her down by calling her names, they should all work out and eat healthy together as a family. That way, she will have the motivation and keep the weight off. They call it a "life-style" rather than a "diet".

I haven't finished watching this, so I may say something they already have, but I feel it would be better for her to lose weight if her family encouraged healthy habits. Korean culture is like my Indian culture where if they feel like u are overweight they will outright tell u, obviously for people outside ur close family it’s very rude, but I think it’s necessary that close family shouldn’t feel that they can’t say anything just bc her feeling could get hurt, her health is more important(although it needs to be handled properly).

And some people (NOT SAYING NAMES) but some people in general ask why is my son or daughter depressed, self conscious, over weight, as a parent it’s not the child’s fault they are like that, it’s there mental health that needs more attention, nor is it the parents fault either, yeah they are responsible for what they put into there child’s body, but for them to yell at the children making the, feel bad about themselves is a whole other thing

Dude she might go through a eating disorder because of the brother and the mom, And eating disorder is not a joke.
Duda Campos Exactly! I used to have an overweight classmate who looked just like her. She hit puberty and now she is thiner than me
hi as someone who has been bullied and teased for my weight since i was seven by family, classmates, and adults, being called a pig is really hurtful and genuinely only makes a person feel really sucky about themselves, but will not make them want to lose weight necessarily. i spent so much time in my younger years crying myself to sleep, and she probably has too. there are nicer ways to tell someone you're worried rather than calling them a pig or telling them to stop eating. i genuinely cried watching this because i can relate to her so much and i hope that her home life becomes a healthier environment for her.

It's so sad that so many people are obsessed with loosing weight and judge people by their looks in Korea..
Sara Grace I agree with you. I also just think the parents and people around her need to work better and actually HELP her and not just call her names
hm, that's not really the case here. obesity is a growing issue, its a disease that can and kills everyday.
The rock paper scissors idea was brilliant for real tho
I think that the brother and the mom need to stop yelling at her when she eats too much and start encouraging her when she eats healthy
Also I think her dad should diet with her (cuz he's also overweight) but also I think it will motivate her more to have someone going through it with her and they can hold each other accountable if one of them eats too much
To me the dad looks better overweight, but In health they do need to loose weight, but he looks better 8j his own ways, anyways.
Agreed
"i'm scared kids at school will tease her" so you decide to humiliate your younger sister on national television?
I don’t know what you think “looks” obese, but I trust the doctor more
Imagine them coming back when the girl is prolly 30 or 35 years old and complaining about her father not letting her to get married lmao

i, an underwight malnourished girl, felt uncomfortable watching this.
how would that girl feel?
Yeah but isnt it embarrasing going there and the thing can solve at home
It helped improve my relationship with my parents by going out for walks with them so yeah xD you can do it!

cuteusagi Obese is by BMI not by how you look. Health is reflected by your health reports. If they said that they went to see a professional and they said she was obese, then she is. But it’s true that she’s really cute.
Well you must be going by American standards for you to say she's "a bit overweight" because she definitely is obese. Y'all need to stop acting as if being fat is normal she need to quickly lose weight while she's still young or it will have dangerous repercussion on her health later.
She do is cute tho
Even in america she is quite overweight. Exapecially considering her age. But i think she will lose it as she gets older
It should be a step-by-step process that is encouraging and positive.

i think one of the factor for her not losing weight is bc she's not doing this for herself but for her mother and brother so hypothetically, if she were to lose some weight later, chances are that she'll gain it back again (by binge eating later from the losing weight pressure) because it's not for HER who's dedicated to change but for someone else like i said before. Instead of forcing the poor girl to eat less and do excessive exercise while getting annoyed that she will be hungrier later bc obv she will, swimming takes up a lot of energy, they should instead encourage her and tell her the risk of obesity and definitely not nag and bully her like the mother and brother.
