Agree with all. I bought a XT3 in 2021 switched from Nikon. Such a joy using it. I wish the invest in some user research to improve the user interface and mobile app.
1. Mirrorless (vs DSLR) - not just size, but seeing real preview instead of optical viewfinder. 3. Faster burst rate than DSLR due to no mirror 4. Useful firmware updates - e.g. improved focus 5. Great video quality: 10-bit 400mbit flog/hlg - usually reserved for high end 6. Fujifilm good at innovating, obsession/focus with being the best aps-c and medium format
I tried to use my late Father’s Pentax K5iiS with its PASM dial and traditional optical viewfinder at the weekend. I know for a fact that this is an excellent DSLR, very well regarded even today and some of the pictures he has taken with it were really lovely. However, I normally use an XT-1 and comparatively, I found the DSLR was unbelievably unwieldy and unfriendly to use, precisely because of what you described. Constant chimping. Never knowing what I was going to be getting until I looked at the badly underexposed or blurred image on the back. Fiddle with settings. Get something better or worse. Fiddle more. Repeat. Ten or more pictures later, a decent result might have come out. However, my XT-1 just shows you in the EVF what it is you’re getting as you make the shot and the manual dials are completely intuitive to changing the setting you need to to get the shot right quickly. Blurred? Pin the shutter speed and let ISO remain in A. Under-exposing? Ramp the ISO and set the shutter speed to A. Bad depth of field? Leave both shutter and ISO in A and crank your aperture. Or just let the camera do all the work (like a P mode) and set them all to A. The crucial difference is seeing what you’re getting as it happens, with regards to exposure and depth of field, so you know what difference your inputs are having as you make them. With a PASM dial and optical viewfinder, you can’t tell how it’s going half as quickly, even if you know what the trouble is. I’ll never get rid of my XT-1. I’m a poor photographer, yet I can take good photos with it. That’s how good the Fuji system is compared to PASMs and optical viewfinders.
Excellent, informative video! Thanks, Jon. I also have a Fuji XT3 wiht5 lenses, including a 1.4 teleconverter and a 70-300 zoom. I’ve been using cameras for over 50 years, and used to shoot full frame Nikon DSLR’s but the weight was a real issue, especially as I do a lot of hiking where weight is an issue, and Events, where it’s easy to get sore shoulders carrying full frame gear. I went back to school at age 60 to do Professional Photography for two years full time. Interesting how they emphasized digital manipulation, not composition or how to get great Portraits. Out Instructor had never done professional Portrait, only food photos. Interesting how Nikon has so few digital crop sensor lenses (only 2?), but Fuji has , what 27 sense to choose from?. Way to go Fuji, for Features, software upgrades, quality, video capability, fast frames er second, and film simulation modes. It’s just like using a small DSLR (I used Pentax ME Supers for years), only WAY better. I like that you can see the principal seeings wiht dials, and that Fuji still makes aperture rings on their lenses, (unlike Nikon or Canon), AND that they have TWO card slots (come on Nikon!). I switched to Fuji mirrorless 6 years ago (started with Fuji XT2), and really love using my Fuji XT3! Great video, keep up the good work! Jamie in British Columbia, Canada.
These days by the time you get out of the store with your brand new camera, a newer model is already sitting on the shelf. Packed with features you most likely don't need. I'm happy with my X-T3 and probably will be in the next 5-6 years.
Started photography on a canon m50. While looking to upgrade to an eos R or RP the helpful staff at the camera store showed me Fuji. The biggest reason I chose an xt3 is the Fuji as a company. Consisten firmware upgrades on your camera to keep it up to date rather than making you purchase a new camera to reap the upgrades *cough* Canon *cough*. They didn't. hold back anything on this camera software wise (4k60p no crop for example) because they aren't worried about cannibalizing sales on higher end camera. Great business model, great company, and amazing cameras.
An excellent review, I absolutely love your presentation style! I’m watching this having just made the purchase myself! Keep up the great work! With thanks from a new subscriber (who’s feeling very reassured thanks to your video!).
Thanks Jön, great review 👍🏻 I have just sold my gears (6d mark II +lenses) and trying to choose “my mirrorless” will try to find out your xs10 reviews than I beleieve I will buy one of those pretty fujifilms👋🏻😊
Fuji also give you the same current top spec sensor across the X range as well (except for their lower priced Bayer sensor cameras). So, although the X-T, X-Pro, X-E, X-S and X-100 range may have different features, they all share the same image quality from the same X-Trans sensor.
Far as I know mate I believe Sony have made the sensors for Fujifilm since from the X Trans iii onwards. They apply their own processing with their own processors that apply the Fujifilm colour science to the RAW data coming from the sensor. I'll stand corrected though. This is why the X Trans 1 and 2 are quite sought after because the colours are different and were made by Fujifilm. Canon don't even make their own sensors anymore. They use Sony sensors also.
Hi! I don't have too much budget to buy a camera, can you please suggest to me. Fujifilm XT3 and Sony a7iii. I need these for the B roll. Please advise.
Hello, i was wondering if there is a camera in particular that would work well as a 'dashcam' to mount and record my driving? Do some handle the motion better? I have used several dashcams and decided they aren't going to give the quality i am looking for.
@@JonSparkmanIt does seem pretty decent actually. A lot better than the GoPro 9 it seems. So my only thing is that i really want to get into landscape photography as well so i want a camera i can use for both. Thinking of going with the Fuji X-T3 with 18-55 kit lens. I appreciate your response, in any case.
Completely agree with you about the XT3. However I am in two minds about the kit lens, mainly because of it's variable aperture. With both the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm, with them not having a clickable marked aperture ring I find that I accidently nudge the aperture ring round without realising. Do you ever have this problem with the 18-55?
Hi! I actually always set my camera to disable the aperture ring and set it to a control wheel on the camera, like canon cameras. I show you how to set that up in my wedding photography settings video.
i have an xt20 and am interesting in upgrading by buying a second camera, an XT3. XT4 costs about 1 500 pounds. Too expensive for me right now. XT3 costs about 800 pounds new and 600 pounds second hand. --> in Sweden. I'm not sure if im gonna buy it new or second hand...
Nice video! A thing I struggle with sometimes is fear of missing out. I never had a DSLR and since “every” food photographer I see uses full frame (this isn’t true of course) it makes me think...what if I had a FF. But I chose the X-T3 because apart from great image quality the video features were something I wanted/needed. Stuff that wasn’t offered in FF at the time and now if they do they are way more expensive.
Hello! I am thinking of buying an X-T3 for still. I don't shoot videos. Would you say that the X-T3 firmware update (4.0) equaled the performance between these two cameras (X-T3 and X-T4)?
You’ll find nothing different about the outcome of the image in regular lighting situations. What the xt3 does well is technical abilities, like focusing and burst modes which don’t show in an image
I agree! There are features in cameras which can make or break your style of shooting that aren't available with just lenses, but if you don't need it, any camera works.

Really enjoyed the video. I have had a X-T3 for about a year now, and have just bought a X-T4.
A lot of these points are also relevant for all mirrorless cameras not just Fuji. Great effort!
Thanks for a good honest assessment of the Fujifilm XT-3!

This is my really first own camera. I owe it everything i my creative journey, started my career and there is not one week I don't use it
It’s a monster camera!
Pro portrait / headshot photographer here. I have shot Fuji since 2018. XT3 and X100V and I’ll never go back to Canon. Fuji is brilliant!

but xs10 and xt4 are better;-)
I mean the gfx100s is reeeeally better

No fluff. Great video!
Remarkably well explained
Great job dude!
How did you turn the VideoMicPro into a boom mic? (What cable are you using to connect the microphone to capture audio?)
I’m not sure which cable but it’s by rode, just a boom pole extension cable

I would probably say the GoPro black 7 is great. It has internal stabilisation.

Can I ask how long the battery last on your xt-3 when shooting 4K 60fps videos?
Oh no! Like 40 mins.

Well done but I would have appreciated it to be a little bit more specific about the x-t3 and not quite generally about APS C mirrorless.
Where are you finding a new XT20 with kit lens for £300?
Body only is £349 at Wex!
X-T20 no longer avail at Wex - I can't find anything close to that price anywhere else either

Hello, I will use 1/50 shutter speed and 25fps for my videos, and iso 640. I will shoot in f-log
Superb
How is the depth of field with the APS sensor compared to a full frame?
It compare as same since sensor size has nothing to do with sensor size.
I so like it (i guess), still with micro 43 but i Hope to Switch for this dude
Which lens is on the thumbnail for this video, please?
56mm 1.2!

Yes! The firmware made the autofocus the same. It’s very good now for photo.

My bad. For general use xt3, for extreme or difficult situations a7iii.
