This album was huge back when it came out in 1978. So many radio track. "Hot Blooded", "Blue Morning, Blue Day", "Spellbinder", "Lonely Children", "You're All I Am"
Lou Gramm is definitely one of the best vocalists out there. In addition to his voice, I think he has raw emotional power which takes him to another level. He has a solo hit called "Midnight Blue" from 87 that you might like.
This is so funny - I had The Smokey & the Bandit Trans Am - my brother gave it to me because he couldn't get good gas mileage & he just graduated High school. Lucky me. We- like you blasted this music on 8-TRACK 😂😂😂
@@keithralston1133 Exactly. Their best 3 albums were their debut one, Double Vision & Head Games, which is a banger. But what can you expect from Ian McDonald (King Crimson, check it out), and Mick Jones (Spooky Tooth?!). The band overall had amazing musicians Ed Gagliardi, Al Greenwood and Dennis Elliott. They were tight until Mick decided to mess with the original lineup, and Lou had a brain tumor (thankfully he survived).
"Waiting For a Girl Like You" and "I Want To Know What Love Is" are 2 great ballads by Foreigner. "Love Will Keep Us Alive" by the Eagles and "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams are 2 of the most beautiful ballads you'll ever hear, also.
When I was in college i had triple vision sometimes. Especially on Friday and Saturday nites. But boy a Singular vision the next morning. Ouch!!! What an iconic rock song and what a stunning quality lead voice. One of rock's best. Thanks for the memories, Foreigner!!!
Their debut album in 77' sure was huge. Not only one of the best singers but the sax player was killer also. "Long, Long Way from Home" off that album is a 21/2 minute banger. 😁
Foreigner and Lou Graham were so great and different! I was 17 and met the band members at a friends house before they became famous! We listened to Dennis Elliott the drummer play to their first song, It Feels Like the First Time, then it came out on radio, and we knew it would be great, so crazy to meet them before they hit it big! They were all awesome! And real nice guys!Something I’ll never forget!
rumor has it Lou is from just outside of Rochester, NY - any truth to that ? I'm here, just outside Buffalo, so I've it from a few different sources...
In case they don't understand the terms "hammered" and "ripped", as they didn't know what double vision was, - very drunk, heavily under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
The three top American male rock-n-roll voices that come to mind to me are Lou Gramm (the lead singer here), Brad Delp of Boston and Steve Perry of Journey.
I can’t believe you don’t know Lou Gramm’s name after hearing Foreigner previously. Saw Foreigner in ‘82 (?) after Foreigner 4 release. Outstanding and flawless performance -
And that is awesome that you pointed that out about in the chorus where it goes into full stereo separation for parts of it and also I absolutely really love the vocal Arrangement aspect of the chorus. I mean it all fits together so well don't get me wrong, but wow, the Dynamics even with the backing vocals, they will swell out of nothing and right when they hit this beautiful strong sustained Harmony vocal cord, then Lou Gramm enters The Fray and does counterpoint off of it and the Dynamics there or really good too, I love their use of space in this. So it starts to almost sound like it has a bit of a pop feeling, but you don't forget even for a second that it's actually really hard driving Rock.
Hey A&A community Doug here (Doug in NY) I'm a big fan of you all from way back... And I'm an Eye Surgeon here in NYC. Double Vision is the layman's term for Diplopia or seeing double. That is, seeing two of everything. It is a serious ophthalmic condition and usually happens when your eyes are slightly out of alignment in their ability to focus on something you are looking at. I hope that helps. I was also a medical educator and would train the new MD Residents. I would always tell them how Foreigner covered a lot of serious medical conditions in their music: Hypothermia--Cold As Ice Hyperthermia--Hot Blooded Diplopia--Double Vision Amnesia--Feels Like The First Time
Very funny! Love the list of conditions and corresponding song. Btw, I agree that double vision is a serious condition. I had it for a while one day out of the blue. It was awful. It turned out I had a palsy of my right (I think supraorbital) muscle. Doc (also NY) said eventually it might self-correct. After a few months, it did go away, but I still don't exactly know what caused it. ➿️
Lou Gramm is one of the all time great rock voices. If you guys haven't hit him yet, you should also try Mickey Thomas with Jefferson Starship on stuff like "Jane" and "Find Your Way Back". Same era, and will probably hit you the same way.
The Double Vision tour was my big sister's first concert in 1977 at age 15. And then, in the early 1990s I had the pleasure of seeing them live at the Universal Amphitheatre in L.A. and Gramm's voice was top notch still.
Foreigner was huge in the 70's. I was lucky enough to see the tours for each of the first four albums, and they were huge fun live too. Feels like the First Time is one of the best first songs on a debut album ever.
Alex, it's appropriate that you should wear that shirt for Foreigner. Lou Gramm's home town of Rochester is only an easy drive from Niagara Falls. Rochester has also given us Steve Gadd, Chuck Mangione, Gene Cornish of The Rascals, Cab Calloway, regional powerhouse band Duke Jupiter, Don Potter, who helped create the sound of The Judds, and many others. Including Rick Beato. On this Foreigner album, the multi-talented Ian McDonald, who passed away year ago, played guitar, keyboards, and woodwinds. He had previously been a founder of King Crimson, which was a very different sort of band. Just shows that the really talented ones can play any kind of music.
Released in the summer of 1978 this album and, specifically this song, was the gateway album which thrust me fully into rock n roll. Not yet 15, I knew if Foreigner toured through my hometown I was going to that concert. Three and a half years later I was sitting - not really, who sits at rock concerts? - 4th row enjoying a great Foreigner performance! Great memories!
I was fortunate to see Foreigner on the 4 tour in 1981. Fantastic concert. Mr. Grammatico (Lou Gramm) during his prime was one of the best voices in rock. If I am not mistaken, he had a five octave range. They have a really deep catalogue filled with bangers and ballads.
Lou Gramm is the name you're looking for and I wouldn't say that he was underrated at all, because in a lot of circles, he is very well recognized as a great rock singer. And I actually saw them on this tour when I was in high school. I played the hell out of this album at one point and also their first album, which has some great shit on it too.
Lou Gramm. He became a Christian years ago (1992). Lou Gramm Band released an album with songs that express his faith in God in 2009. After serious health issues (brain tumor in 1997), his voice has not been what it used to be for many, many years, but he still sings-he just is more like a blues singer now than a rocker who can belt it. In 2021, he released a compilation of his solo material. He had said he had more solo material forthcoming, but I’ve not seen it.
The sad thing is, I was barely out of the womb when this track 1st came out. I’d go on to wear glasses 🤓 at age 7! Now I have “Double Vision!” Sometimes at night, I see more than the said headlights on .. on 🚗! 😳 Somehow I’ve never gotten but one ticket, for an alleged Cali roll. And have a perfect record besides that. Do the math kids! Don’t text & drive/or drink! My Double Vision is Alright by me! 😂 Okay onto this Awesome reaction.👍🏼
If you cross your eyes you'll have double vision, there will be two of everything you look at. It's a common side effect of concussions, hence the old "how many fingers am I holding up" question.😁❤️✌️
I was extremely lucky to have seen 2 of the greatest male Rock singers live in concert during the 70’s. Paul Rogers with the band Free & Lou Graham with Foreigner, both top tier in vocal range & power. They could sing anything and nail the live performance delivery without any gimmicks. Unfortunately, I never got to see The Who at their peak, but Roger Daltry, in my opinion, would be in that same top tier also.
Great band! Met Lou Graham after an All Star show years ago in AC, he had singled me out to “sing to” during the show and found me after to make sure I was okay (I must have turned a very deep red), anyway strolled around the casino with him for awhile and he presented me with an inflatable red dog that all the performers had signed, still have it somewhere!
In 1991 I bought 1977 International Scout 4WD with an 8 track player in Colorado and drove it across the country to New Hampshire. The truck came with two 8 track tapes....Boston "First Stage" and Foreigner "Double Vision". I listened to those two albums all the way. Nobody ever broke into that truck. Nobody bothers to screw with a vehicle with an 8 track player.
Juke Box Hero, Dirty White Boy, Urgent…bunch of ballad hits too, but I’d do those 3 first. You can still see them but with Kelly Hansen, the newer lead singer. He’s fantastic and fun. This is the farewell tour though, so get on it! Mick is the only remaining member and doesn’t always play due to health, but the guys are really great. Love them!
This is so good, this band is so underrated they need to be in Rock Hall of Fame. Have seen them in concert with Kelly H handling lead vocals they still rock.
I love foreigner too, but they've been nothing but a tribute band over the last 10 12 years , not one original member touring on this so-called farewell tour. Mick Jones shows up once in awhile probably to count all his money. I saw them a few years back in Florida they were great, BUT but something inside me just said this is so sleazy not one of these guys was even anywhere near any of the hits they made. Mick Jones wasn't even on stage that night!
@@arkhllraiser I agree with you, but how do you turn back hands of time am 67 don't go to many concerts, night I saw them Mick was there, and I loved the music.
I can't believe this was in 1978, great times for sure!! Lou Gramm's vocals, Mick Jones on guitar, both songwriters, EPIC! Alex you nailed it on the lyrics, it's not about drugs but about one of the New York Rangers hockey goalies who was knocked out during a game and yep he got "Double Vision". Kelly Hansen took over lead vocals for Foreigner in 2005 I think?? He's doing a great job but I miss Lou Gramm with his soulful blues vocals. Pick any song, close your eyes and point, it will be beauty to listen to!!
Something weird, wonderful and Random happened to me tonight and I just thought I'd share. In 2010 I was traveling through San Fransisco with my band and we got invited to a party at a cabin up in the redwoods. There was a big bonfire with about 40 people sitting around it and this guy named Fantuzzi was passing around a guitar. So I played a few songs, got to know Fantuzzi and had a great time. 13 years later and I now live on an island in Thailand called Koh Samui where I make my living as a musician. Tonight I was at a local beach bar and there he was, Fantuzzi, the bonfire guy! Performing! And we still remembered each other! This has nothing to do with Foreigner but it's a cool story and I just got home and I'm a little bit drunk and stoned... not quite double vision but that's enough of a connection for me to make this story relevant. I love being a musician. Subscribe and hit the bell.
was so expecting you to say you played an acoustic Double Vision in your set or that last night you boys played it...maybe next time you will. Cheers mate
Foreigner For Sure! 👊😊 Love 💜 them, requested this so long ago - thank you! 💝 How many times did I play 🎵 this on my home stereo? Headphones in the house and blasting in the car riding around Tampa listening to this & all the other fantastic music from the 70s one after the other! Year-after-year! This very album.
Foreigner and The Cars are both great bands that aren't talked about when music fans talk about the best bands of all time, but both bands were a huge part of my time growing up in the 80s. Love both bands and Foreigner in particular have so many great hit songs that absolutely rock!
Saw them in concert for this tour. They doubled up on all the instruments for this song.. two guitarists, two drummers, etc. A real fun band to see live.
Lou Gramm was in a band with his younger brother in the early 70's and played at my and their High School dance! Great sound especially with Zeppelin covers.
Love how you guys reacted to this song!! One of my favorites!! Some other great songs of their’s are: 1. “Urgent” 2. “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” (more of a love song) 3. “Say You Will,” (also a love song) 4. “Heart Turns to Stone” 5. “That Was Yesterday.” Lou Gramm does have an iconic voice! Love your channel! My mom and I tune in from Southern California USA 🇺🇸
Thanks for hitting Foreigner. I played the crap out of their first two albums as a teen in the 1970s; they are classics IMO especially their debut. Bangers from the first two LPs are numerous: Hot Blooded, Feels Like the First Time, Cold As Ice, Starrider, Headknocker, Back Where You Belong, Blue Monday Blue Day and Damage Is Done.
I remember hearing this in the clubs in the P.I. I was in the Air Force, wow long time ago. Lucky enough to have seen them in concert, great show. Keep discovering guys. Thanks
Foreigner, Lou Gramm (singer), Mick Jones (guitar - former Spooky Tooth, played with George Harrison, Peter Frampton, and Gary Wright), and Ian MacDonald (winds - former King Crimson) were a hit machine. So commercially successful that I think many forget they were just a great straight up rock band. Lou Gramm’s voice is unmistakable.
The hard hitting drumming in this one really takes a strong position and the vocals just soar over the top of them. Double vision is what you get when you slightly cross your eyes and you see double. This song pulls you in and becomes that song that gets stuck in your head for days.
Lou Gramm is definitely one of the best vocals in rock. He can rock but he can also do a ballad, he is amazing.
He sings like he is struggling on the toilet.
From Rochester (Gates, really) NY
Lou was just interviewed on Professor of Rock.
Plays the sax too!

I hear ya! Same here. Their tour for the Double Vision album was my first concert in Toronto when I was 14.
Right there with you.
Three awesome bands that should all be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
Feels Like the First Time is an awesome cut from their first album. Great side 1 song 1 tune.
Totally well placed.

Pick any song, close your eyes and point, it will be beauty to listen to!!
This is one of my favorite Foreigner songs….and Lou Graham needs to be on everybody’s list of great rock singers!
Saw them x 4 in concert. Owned their every album ! ♥
Cheers mate
Far out dude…groovy….No way brah!
Can't say why I enjoyed your story so much, but I did!! Thanks Flowie
Foreigner For Sure! 👊😊
Love 💜 them, requested this so long ago - thank you!
My first concert in high school Foreigner with the Cars opening, it was hard to choose which one I liked better, both at the top of their game.
Cold as Ice and Feels Like the First Time are two of their best.
Perfect song to sing at the optometrist's office.
I like how the action figure in the back was bobbing It's head as well.
Lou Gramm was in a band with his younger brother in the early 70's and played at my and their High School dance! Great sound especially with Zeppelin covers.
Lou Gramm is a great singer, one of the best to come out of the 70s. I love Lou's voice.
Foreigner is one of my all time favorite bands. I feel like it often gets overlooked. They gave more range than people expect.
John, Paul and George belted out a pretty nifty "...She loves you Yah yah yah...", back in the day, I feel ya.
Love how you guys reacted to this song!! One of my favorites!!
Some other great songs of their’s are:
1. “Urgent”
2. “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” (more of a love song)
3. “Say You Will,” (also a love song)
4. “Heart Turns to Stone”
5. “That Was Yesterday.”
Lou Gramm does have an iconic voice!
Love your channel! My mom and I tune in from Southern California USA 🇺🇸
I was lucky to see them as a teenager- Memphis Coliseum in 1977!!❤❤
Thanks for hitting Foreigner.
I saw Foreigner a few years back…zero original members but Kelly Hansen on lead vocals was fabulous… they delivered…
Hey.....is that the Gary Wright that sings Dreamweaver and My Love Is Alive? I love how all these old bands have cool artist that branch out solo.
@@jillhowen3425 Yep, its the same guy. Wright went solo after Spooky Tooth disbanded.
@@jillhowen3425 yep, same guy!
"War With The World", "The Damage Is Done", "Woman Oh Woman" and "I Need You" are just plain heavy duty.
Lou Gramm has added his vocals to many other artists music. He is very known and respected in the industry.
The first Foreigner song I can recall back in the late 70's was "Star Rider". Good song that never ever get played.
The hard hitting drumming in this one really takes a strong position and the vocals just soar over the top of them. Double vision is what you get when you slightly cross your eyes and you see double. This song pulls you in and becomes that song that gets stuck in your head for days.
It rocks hard in all the best ways. It's a song that always makes me feel great. A+.
Anyone from that era will definitely tell you they know the name Lou Gramm and also have him high on their list of greatest rock vocalists ever.
So glad you got to this one. Foreigner is one of the most underrated bands out there. Such a deep catalogue of great songs.
Z/28 Camaro , 8_track stereo w/ 6x9 speakers with a power booster & equalizer ... man those were good times !
"Hot Blooded" is my favorite, this one is good, too. Foreigner dominated the radio way back when radio was king.
A&A, you'll love their "Urgent", "I Want To Know What Love Is" and "Hot Blooded" !!
They did Cold as Ice a couple of years ago when they were in Andy's mom's house--- it blew them away
@@actuariallurker9650 thanks
Saw them twice in the 80s and once in the early 2000s. 80s great live shows. 2000s, good live show.
My absolute favorite Foreigner song! They are on their farewell tour, so catch them if you can.
