Well done Bebe, though Lee Hawkins TRIED to get you to dish dirt or speak negatively about Whitney, you maintained your love and respect for her. You are a true friend, loyal to the end, unlike many others who call themselves "friends" but threw her under the bus for a dollar. One thing that people need to realize is that a fault is a fault, no matter how big or small WE may want to categorize them. Being on drugs is no worst than gossiping, lying, stealing, cheating etc, they are all wrong and WILL keep you out of the kingdom of God.

When someone has a voice like Whitney, who cares if she didn't have the patience to write a song. Singing was her gift and if I remember correctly, she did have co-writing credit on a few of her lesser known songs.

I just discovered this interview. Concerning “celebrity,” or being considered a “star,” and addiction, I believe the true pressure that is never talked about is the fact that the person is put on a pedestal, in society, when in fact they are a slave to the industry.
Basically, you ARE controlled by the industry. And many try to escape this reality by using something to help them deal with reality: eg., money (bragging), “living large,” and drugs or alcohol. Sadly, drug and drink are the easiest remedy that is readily available to fill the reality.
As he said, in the “9 to 5” world, when YOU are sick or when you need a personal day, YOU are in enough control to say, “I cannot work today.” The lie associated with the celebrity status is when millions are telling a person, “You are a star!” When in fact, reality says to the person, “But ‘the man’ owns me. Others tell me when to work, how to dress, when to speak, and what to say or not say.” Executives have the power and they always remind the “star” of this fact: who made you???

Wise words from BeBe, As he says No-One could know the true pressures Whitney had to face when you are The greatest. when No-one around you can sing to your level. then know at that level theres only one way to go.Not to mention the pressure to deliver concerts even when your on an off day. These people shouldnt be pushed to the level that is forced upon them. there could be shorter tour dates. or more time out in between to give rest to both person and voice.

It kind of doesn't matter that she didn't write her songs--as long as she didn't take songwriting credits for them, which I doubt she did. When you can take a song written and performed by someone else but when YOU sing it, it becomes YOUR anthem (y'all know what song I'm speaking of), then your GIFT is YOUR VOICE and NOTHING else matters.

Even though i dislike the idea Bebe tried to implicate The Voice Miss Whitney Houston about her not writing her own songs and raises Mariah Carey's flag for writing and singing her own songs, i should just say that even with Mariah writing and performing her own songs she could never in her wildest dreams do with a song what Whitney did, wheter Whitney wrote it herself or if its someone else's song. Mariah cannot be named in the same sentence as Whitney (im not hating on Mariah,i love her too but im just stating the obvious) and as Bebe himself said on Whitney's funeral: she was famous before them and even when she didnt have to she offered to be a background singer for him and Cece. What does that tell you about her soul, her selfishness to help a brother and sister out, looking out for them even though she had a tough life herself.

Whitney mentioned in an interview that Arista records and Clive Davis wouldnt let her write and sing her own somgs. She said she was tired of singing those old songs but Clive wouldnt let her write songs or even be herself. Actually it came across in the interview, she liked singing but hated the show business and not being able to be herself. She didnt want to kerp covering songs, that she could indeed sing, Clive Davis did not want her writing or doing background musically because she could sing. Bebe Winans is Whitney's brother in Christ- Im not upset about his comment about writing songs and Whitney. Being famous and not being yourself is part of the reason she self medicated.

Although I think BeBe was just being matter of fact with his comments on Whitney, I do think they come off as a slight to her. Yes writing songs can be lucrative but revenue from selling CDs and merchandise is lucrative as well. Making money on the road for someone as big as Whitney is lucrative as well. Whitney put Bebe and CeCe into the mainstream and she deserves more tact from BeBe.

    • @mzbrown6969

I agreed but BeBe was just speaking from a business prospective. A lot of song writers were making money off of Whit even more than she and that wasn't a fair exchange. BeBe wanted her to have it all and he believed in her but she just was content with being a singer.

I wish the interviewer stop saying that Bebe and Whitney could relate. Bebe has never sung in front of over 50,000 people in a stadium. Whitney was a megastar and she is held as the Greatest Female Vocalist of All Time. Everybody comes after Whitney. I don't like how Bebe tried to make it seem like Whitney was inferior as an artist just because she didn't write as well. When you can sell over 200 million albums world wide, have 11 number 1 Billboard Top 100 singles, and 24 years later still the biggest selling female single in the history of music that's all you need is your golden voice. Bebe I like you and all but don't give yourself too much. You are not word renown your a celebrated gospel artist and song writer. Don't give it too much.

She did not need a gimmick - you never saw people flying across her stage or have the entire stage covered by dancers. She stood alone. Flat-footed in front of that microphone. Opened up her mouth and the HEAVEN's opened. Madonna can never compare.

You can talk until you are blue in the face to a person facing addiction and if they are not ready, they are not ready. I do believe Whitney was moving in the direction of recovery but some people have relapses before they get to totally sobriety. I give Be Be credit, if she trusted him as a confidante while she was living he should be the same after she is gone.

Someone who really was close to her and cared like he says he did should have made sure that it was okay with her family. How can you allege that ... that is unless you're in his bedroom with him?? You shouldn't be passing that assumption-rumor-gossip on unless you know "factually" that it's true.

Calm down. I've been called "gay" because I didn't want kids! So what? It didn't bother me. Do you really believe that Mr. Winans is concerned with that comment? I don't think so 'cause he's laughing all the way to the BANK! I did eventually have a child in my early 30's(a blessing) and I still don't give a happy what anyone thinks. My question to you is why are you so sensitive about my comment? Peace.

My , my, my. A bit touchy aren't you? I wonder why? You can call me every name in the book and it wouldn't mean anything to me because you are nothing to me. So go get your prayer cloth and Bible, calm yourself down and read up on tolerance and forgiveness and shut your nasty mouth up! You just judged me. Is this the pot calling the kettle black? I'm done. If you respond to this text, I will not respond or read yours. So have your temper tantrums and a good life. You and your judgmental opinions are hypocritical. C'est la vie. Peace .
