Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first encounter on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokemon
Hard Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

I just finished my hardcore Nuzlocke of this game today. Made it through with Arcanine and Snorlax left. Losses were Mankey and Rattata to the Nugget Bridge rival battle, Magneton to some random trainer on Victory Road (probably the hardest loss since my E4 strategy mainly revolves around him), Vaporeon to Bruno (once again, Lance strategy relied on him), Graveler to Lance, and Gyarados and Venusaur in the final battle. MVPs were easily Arcanine and Gyarados, but Venusaur probably had the best battle by stalling out the champion’s Gyarados who was the biggest threat to me, and could’ve ended my run right at the end.
He didn't really call his zubat "patient zero"... 😂
I chuckled at first. Then I thought about last year and started crying.

It would’ve outsped and it could use a different move
@@jackmusic5994 1 of 2 things likely happens, it disables calm mind thus preventing a potential snowball effect, or it disables psychic and removes its primary means of attacking allowing it to be very easily taken down.

Right!? I'm so happy for him, I said this on another comment but I'll say it here too; It's so inspiring, and impressive, that Flygon has reached this growth in "only" 2 years since this video- loads of people don't get HALF of this level of growth in 5. But, Flygon is an exceptional fella' after all. Some of the most entertaining Nuzlockes I've ever seen in my life comes from this dood.

I did a Soulsilber Nuzlocke a while ago. I had a Hoothoot that I had relied on for a little before the Azalea Town rival battle. I never knew how terrible its attack was. Then I got a Spearow after the battle and it evolved later. It devastated and carried the team most of the way.

I always think the "Set battle Mode" rule is kinda funny. Like, I started doing nuzlockes and promptly giving up because I didn't really have much fun with it. But after I started playing on set mode, I just never changed back, even in casual play-throughs. It's so much more fun and dynamic then switch mode, so in my mind the rule doesn't make sense xD But that's literally just me lol

I like how you point out how easy Kanto games actually are - most pokemons are at the core once you know what to use. Calling XY and onward "easy" has always been Kanto fanboys' favorite argument as to why they're awful and unplayable apparently. They're hardly any worse or easier than Kanto, Greg, you're just 36 and learned how to play a game for 7 year olds in the meantime.

Nah dude I feel that. Playing a hardcore nuzlocke of Red and I ran into a lv 29 dugtrio I knew I couldn’t run because of the lv diff so I hit it with bubble beam sacked the diglett I just caught and hyper fanged with raticate. Lucky to only lose moleman to his dad

Gyarados actually isnt that good unless you catch it as a gyarados
and get thrash
it gets no flying stab, it's a physical attacker and all water moves are special, and it learns alot if dragon moves which are special, even bite is special in gen 3 cuz it's dark type
it doesnt have a nice time until gen 4 even thought I love gyarados
