  • The hardest English pronunciation test that I've ever created (for fun, of course! 😊). This video explains the most commonly mispronounced words in English by English learners, including iron, weird, women vs woman, and many more. The words in this video become increasingly difficult with each level. I explain these difficult words and how to pronounce them in British English-Modern RP (but I also explain General American English and British English-RP variations). How many did YOU get correct?

I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

For today, I could pronounce each and every one except the Quinoa which I heard for the first time today.
I OWE YOU A BIG APPRECIATION, EMMA. Thanks for helping us being better at English 🥰

American speaker here from the Midwest. We tend to be a little harder with our "r" sounds. Especially in the Chicago area. So for the word "iron", we would say it like
"eye-urn". And for "weird" you would definitely hear the "r" sound. Like "weir d". And for "clothes", you would most likely hear It pronounced as "cloze". Hang up your cloze. But we also have many regional dialects. I have a family member from Kentucky. With the word "oil"...I would say it as having 2 syllables "oi l" as in rhyming with "foil", whereas she pronounces it as 1 syllable like "foal" but leaving the "f" off. I love language and how we are all so unique. Great channel and videos!

I live in England and haven't learned English for a long time. I talk to people in my language over and over again, I decided to learn English and quickly got bored and gave up. I'm tired of always working at the lowest level just because I don't know this language. And with you for the first time in a long time, my hopes rose and I started listening to you and taking notes every day. I wish I had the opportunity to take private lessons from you. I want this so badly that I can't describe it in words. If I was your student, listening to my English would be enchanted. Let your expression and beautiful energy shine through your teal eyes, you radiate energy Emma. Good luck and stay with us always Emma!
    Thanks⚘

In the States, we have An American RP called Mid-Atlantic that you hear in movies from the 20s to the 50s, which was also spoken by well-bred muckity-mucks such as FDR. This accent was popularized by dialogue coach Edith Skinner, who used to quip that its named for being from nowhere, since there’s no land in the middle of the Atlantic.

I just found this channel and I love it.
Coincidentally I knew exactly how to pronounce 'antidisestablishmentarianism' because my mother taught me that word when I was in my teens.
Though I do pronounce too many 'R's in other words which appeared in these two tests.
A question though: why do mostly Brits and Aussies pronounce some word combinations with 'r' where it doesn't exist (Americans less so)?
Example: when saying "last week I saw a film", they pronounce it as "last week I saw(r) a film". Is it because of those two adjacent vowels?
On a side note, I was expecting " 'of' pronounced as 'off' " to make an appearance here.
    Anyway, cheers!

I'm working on some better pronunciation because I've got a pretty broad Northern accent and right before you showed the final word, as you were saying "I hope it fits on the screen" I said "antidisestablishmentarianism", then laughed so loud when it came on the screen. Great videos.

    Hello, Emma :)
    Spanish greetings from Sheffield!
Could make a video regarding voiced consonants at the end of words, please?
I hear around words like "Love" pronounced like "luf" instead of "luv" when it is the last word in a sentence.
It's so baffling because I don't know whether it is correct or not, and I don't want to do the same thing if not.
    Thank you ❤️
    Best pronunciation teacher ever!
