  • Buckle up, it's a big one! Andy pulls an automatic transmission, and then tears it down to give you an inside look at all the pieces! He shows you how the gears and clutches work together to move your vehicle down the road. He shows how the whole system is directed by the computer, and actuated by automatic transmission fluid, which is why it's so important to check fluid levels and replace dirty fluid! He even puts it back together when he's done!

I'm definitely impressed with the mechanic here. Whoever designed this, and all his/her accomplices, should be locked away and never allowed to design anything again. Unreplaceable filter and common failure of two tiny, cheap diaphragms burried deep inside an inaccessible location is a crime against humanity.

I was like you once as a tech.Complained that engineers did this and that and blah blah blah. I went back to school and now work for a 2nd tier Auto supplier. Turns out engineers and designers have no decision making powers. It's all based on cost and the products YOU buy as a consumer. I know it's a hard pill to swallow, but if you think you can do better, go ahead and get your Mech eng degree and show em how it's done champ. X)

Funny....I did a rebuild on my 1.6 Liter fwd 2013 Ford Escape. There was another video of a Ford technician rebuilding it. All I did was watched the video a million times, but I successfully rebuilt the transmission without knowing jack about the parts I replaced. Absolutely no clue about how all these parts go hand and hand.
It would be nice to actually understand how they work together. Rebuilding with the help of a professional is one thing, understanding how all these parts actually work is another.

great video, I have a 2013 ford escape with a 6f35 transmission, my problem is that the transmission doesn't go into gear right away then it does, then i pops out and loses power but once I get on the highway it runs great with no problems until I exit the highway, could it be the trans or the solenoids?

Hey Andy nice work! My car shifts are delayed on 2nd and 3rd gear. I feel the car loses power when shifting. Any advice?

We rebuilt the 4l65e transmission out of 02 Envoy SE 2 wd. But now it will only go in reverse. We haven't fully connected gear shift linkage would that be the cause. Reverse is in 1st gear position and wont go into park position??

+Deborah Ann Tallon We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

Wow! Never thought that this could be reassembled. Therefore nobody repairs them, just replace.
Please, please assist with 2005 Renault scenic 2, automatic gearbox..1.6
Nobody wants to touch this gearbox or even suggest replacing with another automatic gearbox. Been suggested to convert to manual. Please can you send link to any videos pertaining to repairing the automatic gearbox
    Thank you kindly

I've been turning wrenches for 45 years. I wouldn't touch this job. Any car with 100k requiring this much work is simply totalled. This is insane. If you're going to do this, then the entire engine should be rebuilt while it's out.
