Crazy how the album didn't get more recognition. They didnt have a great deal of money just starting out as queen, and made music like that. Personal favourite from the Album is Liar, That John deacon bass solo is amazing!

Yes, that is John on the bass. John joined Queen in 1971.
“Doing All Right” is one of the few Queen songs to feature Brian on piano in the studio. Queen played this song as early as 1970, and it was the first song Freddie played live on the piano for Queen.
Though the album "Queen" was completed and fully mixed by November 1972, Trident Studios spent months trying to get a record company to release it. After eight months of failing that, they took the initiative and released it themselves in a licensing deal with EMI Records on 13 July 1973. During this time, Queen had begun writing material for their next album, but they were disheartened by the album's delay, feeling they had grown past that stage, even though the record-buying public was just getting wind of them.
The album "Queen" got good reviews:
Rolling Stone - "There's no doubt that this funky, energetic English quartet has all the tools they'll need to lay claim to the Zep's abdicated heavy-metal throne, and beyond that to become a truly influential force in the rock world. Their debut album is superb."
The Winnipeg Free Press opined that Queen borrowed from other artists, but also compared the album favorably to Led Zeppelin, writing, "...the band manages to inject such a fresh, energetic touch to most of it that I don't mind a bit... With its first album, Queen has produced a driving, high energy set which in time may be looked upon with the same reverence Led Zep 1 now receives."
Illinois Daily Herald also commended the record, writing "Good listening is guaranteed in songs like 'Keep Yourself Alive,' 'Great King Rat' and 'Doing All Right'."
I think the biggest problem with the album "Queen" is the sound was so different from what was popular at the time that they didn't know how to promote it properly.

Your reactions are among the best! This such a gorgeous, underrated gem! As well as calming, it has an almost "mantra-esque" feel to it. Without a doubt, Queen was destined for greatness from the get-go! I hope you check out more of early Queen, especially Live at the rainbow and odeon Hammersmith '75. Also, in case you didn't know already, back in July, Dr. Sir Brian rereleased his first solo/collaboration album "The Starfleet Project", highly recommended!

I really enjoy watching your reactions, bought this album way back in 1974 (and still got it by the way), been a massive Queen fan ever since, I think the reason it didn't get much recognition then is because people weren't ready for this phenomenal band, they were just on a completely different level, hope you keep these reactions up, look forward to seeing your next one mate.

Brilliant album by Queen and Freddie, our Liberace.
    Their best album IMO.
For a change of pace a song called Roundabout by Yes is cool. Steve Howe guitarist for Yes played the Spanish guitar on Innuendo. Yes and Queen were good friends. 🙏🍁

They recorded this album in pieces, during studio down time. So they had to be ready to go in whenever the studio wasn't in use. That might also be part of the why it sounds different. 😀

It would be fun to have you react to Angelina Jordan . She started performing at the age of 7 and won Norways got Talent singing Gloomy Sunny by Billie Holiday . You would really like “I Put A Spell on You” she was 9 and she will blow you away. Once you react your comment section will over flow with requests. This little girl now young lady will steal your heart. She performed with Alan Walker in Norway at age 10 singing his famous song faded . So glad your back David . You’re so much fun and full of knowledge about music 🥰❤️

Another song for you to check out is Good Company from A Night At The Opera. It's a Brian May one where he creates the sounds of jazz band instruments, trumpet, clarinet etc using the guitar.

What a GREAT reaction! Thank you! Your excitement is contageous. Freddie's sweet vocals here! So pure and young. (no smoking yet). He was a vocal chameleon. Could sing anything, in any style, and own it. Brings out the emotion in songs. As much as I LOVE Freddie Mercury (Queen), the Smile version is actually quite delightful. Tim's vocals were quite lovely. And he, Brian & Roger already had those harmonies working. When Brian's super guitar work comes in, you can hear why Freddie thought "I'm going to be part of THAT". :)

I can't tell you how much it means to me to see your reactions to the music I have loved for so long.
Queen was very underappreciated at the time, the early stuff (70's). It was so progressive that nobody knew what to do with it.
I have a LOT to say about early Queen, but I will rein myself in 😂.
My greatest wish would be for you to do whole album reactions. The reason is this: you know how a Queen song will typically take you on a journey? Have you going down a path and then throw in a U-turn? Get you disoriented? Yeah.
Each album does the same. Frantic, then chill. Heavy, then light. Operatic, then simple.
It's an experience that listening to each individual song won't give you.
Anyway, love your channel. Makes my heart happy!

This song sounds different because it was written pre-Queen by Brian and Tim Staffell when they were together in the band Smile, which Roger also was eventually a member of as well. Queen was with Trident Studios management at this time and they really pulled back on the sound, making everything rather subdued. Queen didn't like it at all and particularly Roger who was very muted on his kit. Queen wanted a full sound so for their second album they told management that they weren't going to be doing it this way anymore, they were going to do it their own way. Admittedly, I love Brian's kind of smooth jazz sound with his guitar but honestly I love him the most when he lets it all rip. Yes, John was on the first Queen album. This album didn't do all that well and Brian and Roger spoke about how by the time it was finally released, there was nothing new or innovative about it so it just seemed bland compared to where music was at that moment. Their second album came quicker and did better but it was their third album that really got them becoming a household name. Thanks for your reaction.

great come back. glad to see you again. Just as a side, and I will get a lot of hatters for this, but as a 61 year old original Queen fan, could you please react to Queen + Adam Lambert fire fight Australia live Aid set. Yes I know better than anyone you can't replace place Freddie and John, But through Adam the band has reached new Audiences, a bit like You Tube reactions, they have made many new fans because of Adam. Will be interesting to hear your views. My View, can't beat the original but boy do they belt it out, and the Audience love it. Thumbs up from me. LISTEN with an open mind.
