The first segment is my absolute favorite one! Peggy is the greatest participant in the dog and loves her house so much to want to know as much about it as possible. And Mick is a treasure.
Its so refreshing how each of the experts on this program allow each other to shine and don't take the forefront more often than not. Academia is cut throat as any profession and to see those who are highly knowledgeable and educated work together and not try to use each other as stepping stones is very nice.
As an American, I'd love a day with my metal detector in the UK. My ancestors set sail in the 1600s and thats about as early as youll ever find here for artifacts, more likely revolutionary war and later. I found a very old large gate key on my property which has been lived on since the 1600s, and that was exciting. Cant imagine Roman or Saxon items.
I like the excavations of Althorp. Charles Earl Spencer was a very gracious and indulgent host while the archaeologists were there to attempt to uncover the ancient village within the boundaries of the estate.
How do you estimate the price of poo? Has anyone ever bought it? I've seen it - I wouldn't be handing over £36K for it under any circumstances. 'Oh look, viking poo. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight'.
Errr......a excavator? Great for digging big holes on land you don't care about. Not so good on somebody's lawn when you need to remove earth carefully.
Time Team usually hires a back-hoe operator that's an absolute whiz at spotting clues in the soil. But there's no beating hand work with your spade/trowel - you can feel when there's something at the end of it.
But the emancipation of North America failed! Only 13 states managed independence - there was an attempt to 'liberate' Canada in 1812 which only formalised the border. And the White House got burned down in the process. So yes....happy independence for some day. A triumph for firework manufacturers.
There's no BBC Ch4. Channel 4 was, quite literally the 4th *Nationwide* television channel and began in the 80s. Prior to that, There were the 2 BBC channels (BBC1 and BBC2) and ITV (Independent Television) which had smaller, regional channels as the third channel. It thus *slightly* predates Sky and other satellite channels but not by very much. There's been a few more terrestrial TV channels since - Channel 5 and BBC3 being the obvious. BBC (the British Broadcasting Company) is the state sponsored national channel. It is funded by the license fees, where everyone must have a TV license, and it operates under a pretty strict charter regarding operation, funding, etc. ITV and Channel 4 are independent commercial enterprises funded by advertising. Ch4 also has a highly respected film company that has been involved with some huge internationally successful movies, similar to France's Canal+ Ultimately, an independent TV station needs to make more money from showing ads alongside a programme than all the many different costs of producing and airing the show in order to make a profit. It isn't government backed and if a programme fails to be profitable, there's no fallback to make up the losses. If the audience is too small, or of a niche demographic that companies aren't willing to pay large amounts to advertise to, then basically the show is going to get canned. But even a profitable show may get cancelled if it is taking up a time slot in the programming schedule that a more profitable show could have. We're lucky that, today, we have a lot more independent platforms with alternative funding, such as Patreon, that allow projects that simply aren't profitable enough for traditional publishing or broadcasting to have alternate means of funding and distribution.
Mick Aston resigned in 2012 after Channel 4 wanted to revamp the format due to its decline in viewing figures - they lost about 40% of the audience in the previous four years. Channel 4 is a commercial station (mainly) so Time Team wouldn't be paying for itself. Blame capitalism!
Yes. Yes I would. As opposed to self-absorbed people with far too much time to make RUclips videos about their random thoughts, Baldrick and his friends here knows tangible history in addition to systematic knowledge of how multiple lines of evidence connect and experience of how the real world works. Travel and read, dude. Not watch and rummage.

Aah. Time Team with Sir Tony. Like comfy slippers on a winter’s night.

I just love how you can dig a foot deep and find so much archeology in Europe. Being American, as you say, I'm just gobsmacked...❤
Always a good watch. :D
Phil is possibly one of the most delightful human beings on this planet.
This one, Time Team is one of my favorites.
❤️🙏❤️
Love me some Time Team ❤
Love the classics.
that sea curtain was funny, cant believe they would think can work. all that pressure, even puting a roof sealed on the top would not hold.
Isn't it amazing how 'men of the church' were among the wealthiest.
Love this show
Thank you!
Thank You!
Penny Rainbow. A whimsical name for a lady living in a castle.
The fact that these ditches catch fresh water for drinking and cooking never gets mentioned

Hank the 8th got away with a lot of shady things back in his day.
Yes, Christendom has lived in lavish luxury
It seems that the owner of Waynflete tower built some kind of terrace where the wall trench was, all modern finishes unfortunately, you can rent it.
I think if I owned the place I would ditch the gardens so that the full dig can be displayed and protected.
@@malahammerThe best way to protect it is to cover it back up.

I just love England 👍☕!!
Me too, it keeps my feet out of the sea.
From where I live i find so hard to find that you can have Fog and Wind at the same time?? We get fog here but only when it's calm..
17:00 that’s the brightest hair I’ve ever seen
Just saint mick casually revealing his heavenly form.
Can Time Team upload all the classic episodes please. It seems theres a lot of missing episodes in the season playlists 👍
They have a cunning plan....
There is a museum in England that has a half a pound viking poo on display that is estimated to be worth 36,000 pounds sterling.
Brexit has a lot to answer for
🤢😂🤣
How do you estimate the price of poo? Has anyone ever bought it?

'Oh look, viking poo. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight'.
@@pd4165 I haven't a clue but the scientist was upset that it was only valued at 36k. Seems there's actually a market for fossilized poo.
@@hiddentruth1982 I'm calling BS until they try putting it on E Bay.
Buy now price £50k.
Auction ended £5.
Why haven't they invented a more efficient shovel? They haven't changed for centuries. There must be an automatic/pneumatic shovel.
How heavy would that be?
I'll take a stick an steel if you please 😊
How expensive would that be?

Pardon an ignorant Aussie, but was it BBC Ch4 that canned this wonderful show?🤔
