Hi mate, I love your videos. I am a truss designer and I have not been on the site, I have always been in the office. Thank you for showing how everything goes after the design.

Spot on that pal , been doing exactly the same method for 30 years!!!! Very neat cutting the 4x1 lay boards on the angle ( I didn’t always do that) price work 😊.

Thanks mate! Yeah sometimes we choice to ignore that bit aswell! Doesn’t always pay to be that neat where you don’t need to! 🤣

Yep I do it the same way, another way to do your lay boards is get the bottom of the lay board in the right position and then swing the top up or down until it eyes through with the plane of the girder, put a temporary tack in it, do the same the other side but you'll have to press the mid point of the lay board down so it touches the roof whilst you eye it through the plane as the top will kick up where it overlaps the other.
Where the two cross cut them down the middle and it will work out the same. Hope this makes sense.

Yes mate I used todo the eyeing through technique and still do that to double check. But when you only have like 2 trusses at the front it’s hard to get a good average sometimes haha! Cheers for your comment 👌💪

@@ashleydavenport3794 yes agreed, sometimes you only have the girder so you can't really eye it through the plane, then you have to measure it up, you really need at least 4 trusses stood up to be able to eye it through right 👍

Loving your vids! Always interesting seeing how other chippys do things. My wife thinks I’m nuts I’ll be at work all day doing roofs then when kids in bed I’m watching chippys on site 😂

Random one. What tool belt and pouch setup do you use? I'm starting 1st fix domestic carpentry at the moment and just getting tools etc. Cheers!

Hi mate, I’ve got a makita belt and nail pouch. Then a dewalt knife holder which is good for pencils and nail punches etc too, and just a makita hammer loop! Try keep it cheap and simple! 👌

Hi Ashley, how easy is it to do a loft conversion on these new build trussess

    • @ashleydavenport3794

To be honest I’ve never done one, but think it’s a case of getting steels in there from wall to wall and then strengthening the ceiling and all the rafters, then cut out all the bracing in the middle! There’s a few RUclips videos on it! 👌

How come you truss all these gables, why now just stick frame the gables and truss the main house, anything over a couple valleys on a house I feel like makes more since to stick frame the whole roof, we just did a 2300 sf house with 8 valleys and I can’t imagine spending the time putting in trusses and over framing all the valleys. To each there own I’m not saying what your doing is wrong, I am just wondering thanks

hi, cheers for your comment! its purely because thats what gets supplied, they dont send loose timbers to infill the valleys, weve got the method pretty fast now anyway, about an hour and the trusses are all fitted and braced 👌
