00:00 JLC Reverso Watch Review Introduction
Among luxury watches, one that’s highly regarded by enthusiasts and connoisseurs is the Reverso by Jaeger-LeCoultre, with its ever-attractive and recognizable rectangular shape. As the watch comes with a hefty price tag, we think it warrants a close examination to know whether or not it’s worth your hard-earned money.
01:35 History of the brand JLC and the watch itself
02:59 What is a Reverso Watch and what makes it special?
The Reverso watch is a classic art deco model with a rectangular face that is flippable and the name being inspired by the Latin word “reverso,” which means “turn around.”
07:13 Watches Available from JLC Today
11:50 What Do JLC Reversos Cost?
If you’re on a budget but you really love the watch, I think you can find used models around $2,000, $2,200 depending on the shape they’re in.
13:17 Is A Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Watch a Good Investment?
If you just look at it from a pure investment angle, you have to say that watches, in general, are maybe not the best investment unless you love watches and you like to wear them while you hope that the value increases over time.
Let’s assume you like watches and you want something that holds its value or ideally increases in value. In that case, we think that Rolex is a better buy and we explained why in our review of Rolex Watches. We also think Patek Philippe is probably a better investment watch.
17:23 The Construction of the Reverso
If you don’t go for a gold option, the entry-level version is stainless steel. The original intent of the Reverso was to be a protective watch and was supposed to be worn playing polo.
19:19 The Style of the Reverso
In a time where many men think that bigger watches are always better, the Reverso offers an option for people with smaller wrists who like smaller watches but also accommodates men who want bigger watches. You can also get the Reverso in a thin version with a slim profile, which I personally like.
We don’t foresee the Reverso to ever go out of style. It is simplistic on the one hand, yet very characteristic and just very versatile. Also, in our minds, it’s a more elegant look than many other luxury watches out there.
20:07 The Big Question: Is It Worth It?
So, ultimately, considering all those factors, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise to you that the JLC Reverso is worth it. But, if you’re just out there trying to find the watch that gives you the biggest bang for the buck and the best potential to increase in value, you’re probably better off going with the Rolex watch.

Before even watching the video, the answer is 100% YES
Yes it's worth it. Next video should be cartier tank quartz worth it?
NO NEED TO WATCH. THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS YES!
I like the rotary logo! I have a steel strap blue dial Rotary Monaco
@@mashedpotato238 Nice 👌
and ? go read some reviews on watchuseek .. old movements .. no water resistancy... you can overwind them etc etc etc ... they lose 35% percent before you even buy them lol .. the hands are not gold but rhodium plated (which is absurd for this price range) many watches have terrible reading etc etc the list of problems go on .. rolex and glashutte are way above. jlc has zero decoration .. unless you go duo but those are gold and cost +25 k euro. even grand seiko has better finishing of the movement (not to mention the case ) so overall .. almost all good brands like, lange, glashutte, grand seiko, rolex, blancpain, and breguet. not to mention all richmonds watches are known to have terrible quality control as well as durability problems (with an expection a Lange) even vacheron has big problems ... people that dont know much about watch making might assume jlc is a good watch. but it really is not. and the watchmakers watchmaker is just a phrase that maybe made sense back in the days but these days its not true at all. lol not even to to mention their watches dont even have magnetic resistance (and its 2021 out there lol terrible !!!!)
I am french and appreciate how careful you have about the pronunciations. You got it right sir. Well done.
I always pronounce Jaeger the German way, because its a German name. Le Coultre French of course. It is also a funny contrast in my opinion
He did a good job except for LeCoultre
@@MonsieurCorbusier it may be a German name but Edmond Jaeger was french, from Alsace, and pronounced it the french way, which is how JLC has stated the brand name is pronounced.
Today I had just visited a Jaeger-LeCoultre store in Ginza for the first time shopping for a dress watch.
I didn't realise there was a store in Ginza!
I could have visited it whilst writing!
Good store but the famed brand sekio is one finest if I were in ginza, I did buy a grand sekio
Yes, there is an understated elegance of smaller but classical designed timepieces that seems to escape the attention of today’s market.
JLC is one of few brand who didn’t lost their brand goal for the latest trends
Great video! Just one thing: 30m of water resistance does NOT mean you can go diving this deep with it, not even technically. It only describes the static pressure resistance, but little movements under water already increase the pressure significantly. A 30m watch is merely resistant to splash water and you shouldn't even go under the shower with it. Still a lovely watch which I would love to own one day. Keep up the good stuff!
Thank you!! This is always a point of contention in the watch community. You should not be swimming or even showering with the majority of luxury watches.
I mean, it comes standard with a leather strap, not nylon, not steel, not "oysterflex". That should be indication enough that it doesn't belong anywhere near water. Lol.
I am the proud owner of a Duoface and believe me, when you have it in your wrist, it is definitely worth 😍
How thick is the duo-face? Is it top heavy? I tried on a medium mono-face and it looked very small. I tried on a gold large mono-face and fit perfect. I know the single face large are 45mm in length. The duo-face large are 48mm in length plus 10mm thick. I wish they kept the black tribute to 1931. They are difficult to find in the United States for under $7500, and the 1931 editions I find are from Europe, but dealers ask over $9-$10k.
@@Milofchg hi, Duoface is not heavy at all. About the thickness, when I compare with my OP36, I don't see that much a difference and I have chosen a large one because the dark side seemed quite difficult to read for me on medium. I have no regret. The trick is rather in the shape, I think. Feel free to check my IG for photos @fuel_of_cool 😎
Even grande Duoface wears thin enough on wrist
This is the earliest I've ever been to a new video from GG!
Also this channel is so close to 1 million subscribers! Congratulations
I personally think that maybe... But just maybe... The reverso can make a big comeback like the cartier santos or tank did. There are good chances that these watches will find lots of new, young fans.
Man i just wanted to look up something about flat caps and TOTALY fell in love with this channel!! Keep it up everyone!!
greeting from a Dutch fan.
Welcome and danke well
I am a 😎 proud owner of 5 Reverso. They are classic watches that hold their value, are high quality timepieces for a fraction of the price compared to the overated/inflated price "keep it with the Jones's" Rolex!
Agree
Judging your poor grammar, I'm going to say "cap".
yeah, they hold their value if you buy them pre-owned. not if you buy them brand-new
@@parkerhowell646 cap?
@@omar10213245 exactly.Never buy new watches in general!Always pre-owned!
Excellent video and coverage of the brand and its history. Worth it for a watch is always a difficult question as it is an emotional purchase and not really an investment in the same way that classic clothing is. For watch enthusiasts, a JLC Reverso will likely be worth it but for more casual watch wearers, an affordable alternative like a Seiko or even a quartz Cartier may make more sense. As a JLC Reverso 976 owner myself, I absolutely love the timepiece so it's worth it to me.
Of all the content featuring this watch available, this is one of the best. Really engaging; which is surprising given the length of the video.
JLC ABSOLUTE CLASS! Love the Reverso: Rich history, watchmaker's watchmaker, such a cool piece and is always classy!
JLC REVERSO, for me the most beautiful watch legend of all time! Greetings from Serbia!
Yes it is worth it...for under $10,000 you can get a JLC Reverso Medium Classic Small Second manual wind, a Grand Seiko SBGW231 and a nice minimilist Junghans with the change....all the formal dress watches a real man of class would ever need and could hold his head high in a room full of Tuxes wearing Pateks, APs, Rolex, Constantins, Breguets Langes, and Blancpain...fact..they are my Husbands formal dress watches and stated he has no desire to purchase another formal dress watch and says it's a nice feeling to be be totally happy and satisfied with what you own and the JLC Reverso has helped fill that niche
What an outstanding channel. I’ve been binging it all day 😊
Great Job, your video answered all my questions perfectly👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
even Ihsahn, a well-known as singer and guitarrist from the Black Metal Band "Emperor" have a Reverso (with personal signature and a custom made strap form JLC), so not only for classic style, the reverso fits, but also for the most antyclassic standpoint of black metal xD. But, it make sense, to protect the watch on the stage, so he use it for the intended purpose ;). from a horological standpoint, there is almost no other watch, that is so iconic like the Reverso. it was the first "sports watch" and layed the foundation for watches like the Nautilus or the Royal Oak.
@@thomasm3170 exactly.. and you can measure the time you must wait till the arrival of the ancient deamon of the eternal darknes (and protect the watchface, when he is comming with his legion of destruction) xD xD
I've been learning more about the brand lately. Really amazing brand with some original and cool looking designs. Nice vintage vibe without looking 'old' but classy. That model you wore with the silver dial and brown strap is gorgeous.... But not sold new anymore.... Guess I'll have to look around for it!
Great video!
This watch has my artistic heart. I remember my father owning one in the 1990's, as a child I was facinated and my father would allow me to wear it on special occasions watch face down of course!
The watch in its dual face form has very recently had a write up in the financial times as part of a Christmas shopping list.
I still prefer the single face.
I believe a video about classic facial hair styles, would be very helpful and interesting! I love your videos, they have helped me develop my own, gentlemanly style and personality. Thank you, keep up the great work!
Highly appreciate this great informative video, thank you sir!
I would rather go for a Cartier Tank but this is an iconic watch indeed.
Yes, Cartier has some nice watches too, stay tuned for another video 😜
I second that. A yellow gold Cartier is timeless
Which one you prefered the most and why? Louis, americaine, solo?
Mine's Americaine, but i'm just curious. Because they are truly a grail
@@desanctisapostata Louis all day everyday and twice on a Sunday!
@@mazrashid6549 why the Louis? It's so hard to decide!
To me, JLC is the best watchmaker in the world for the simple reason that 2 of the 3 brands of the holy Trinity, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet has for sure multiple times in the history received JLC movements in their watches, there’s a reason why they called them the watchmaker’s watchmaker
They are the only watchmaker who have supplied movements to all three of the holy trinity. The sole reason they aren't one of them is because they weren't established as a maker of watches as early as the others but their engineering and movements were unsurpassed.
@@spidiq8 actually the first Lecoultre Movement factory is a few years older then Patek Philippe ( founded by Antoine Lecoultre in 1833, P.P was in 1839), in my opinion the holy Trinity a fourth rule, investment, a normal Master collection watch from jlc will never be really a good investment but a P.P. Or A.P Will almost certainly gain value in almost no time
@@esteban8840 My comment was referencing the fact that LeCoultre were a manufacturer of movements and not of watches as early as the trio.
Extremely thorough. Kudos to you! I’m tempted to buy that book.
While watch shopping I was attracted to the art deco style. The JLC and the Girard Perregaux caught my eye. I bought the GP. My next watch will be a JLC.
I love these “is it worth it” videos please keep them coming!
I've long admired these. Seeing one in rose gold in a jewler in Aspen in the 90s was the first watch to turn me on. Totally out of my range, but no reason not to appreciate them.
Nicely presented, SR!
I'm a sucker for Art Deco so Reverso came naturally to my liking. JLC is on another level definitely.
Hope to see more Is It Worth It! Definitely one of my favorite series from GG.
What a fantastic informational video about the JLC Reverso. Better than most watch blogs lol
Tomorrow Im getting this JLC watch and I am so excited, Great Video. 😁
You lucky @#$% 😄👍
Great review 👍🏻👍🏻 which Reverso would you recommend for ladies? A classic one to have. I just simply can't make up my mind. I love them all 😍
Congratulations Mr. Schneider !!
For a men's fashion channel, the subject was very well developed
Reverso is an iconic watch, certainly worth it!
One advantage of this and a Rolex is that small models can be purchased otherwise other brands are often 40-42 mm today
Well, you can find a lot of vintage watches that are smallers, such as Omega. Also, Cartier offers their Cartier Tank Solo in 34 mm
@@callehammar2743 yep I have one
I got my Grande Taille Reverso in 1999, and is still running today. I do believe the Reversos from the 1990s were not water resistant. Only on the later iterations did JLC start putting a rubber gasket around the movement to help improve water resistance.
This is my dream watch HANDS DOWN. Not a bad price point for someone in my line of work... former Navy but now, warehouse worker. Would gladly save up to get this watch. I have a smaller wrist so I think it would fit me well.
I own a Reverso, and I WEAR it wherever I can, despite the inevitable accumulation of minor scratches. (However, motorcycles and mechanical movements don't mix well.) The Reverso is totally distinctive, and I greatly appreciate the understated, retro elegance. I'm surprised you didn't mention the different styles of guilloché watch faces. There are several, but once I saw the wavy design you show at 0:58, nothing else would do! It's what I got, and it's provided a very satisfying ownership experience.
dont mind me asking, but which watches do you prefer for motorcycle riding?
@@rywk4225 Not at all, Rahul, happy to help! I use a 36mm quartz watch with a steel band from Mondaine's "Simply Elegant" collection. It isn't on their website right now, but can be found on Amazon for €339. What I like is that it's very thin, almost like it's painted on your wrist, and doesn't interfere with the tight cuffs on motorcycle jackets; and the band, of stainless steel mesh, is as comfortable as leather but isn't affected by sweat. The only functions are time and a sweep second hand; but if you insist on ANYTHING more (date!), your watch will be twice as thick. It also comes in 41mm, which I ordered first; it looked HUGE on my wrist, and I sent it back. The train-station-clock design is a bit of a gag, and you either think it's way cool or you hate it: but it most definitely is LEGIBLE, at least until the sun goes down. But whatever watch you wear, Rahul, ride carefully, have fun, be safe!
@@wordsmithgmxch thanks alot brother!👍👍👍
I bought a new classic Reverso in 1997 and in the span of 24 years I've only had to replace the ostrich band. The movement is still working fine even though I've never brought it in for servicing. For investment purposes, stick with Rolex and PP as Raphael suggests. I recently sold my 13 year old PP 5711/1A for almost quadruple what I had paid.
The lubricants in your watch stopped protecting the parts against friction long ago, sir. It’s been running on borrowed time for years. A complete service is long overdue.
Interesting belt you're wearing, I´m wondering is it part of the suit ? Never seen it before, terrific video
I'm biased, I have a JLC Reverso in medium with small seconds on a black alligator straps. It's my go to dress watch although I wear it occasionally for no particular reason.
Yes, but buy it either secondhand or from a dealer that can negotiate on price.
I was just looking at Reverso pics this week because it is one of the very few square watches I really like. Sven is a mindreader. Now I just need to win a lottery
I'm looking into getting some kind of tie keeper, and I was wondering what your opinion on tie chains would be over a tie clip or tie bar.
Great to see a non watch focussed channel covering the reverso! Very nice!
@Campari Soda never claimed to be stylish :)
Years ago I promised myself I would buy a JLC one day......after the last 12 months, you know what, now is the time.👍
My dream watch, thanks for sharing the history.
Greetings!! Would like to know if you would go for Medium or Large for the Reverso Classic Duoface smallseconds. I have a 6.6inch wrist, both medium and large sits well but i just cant decide
My Reverso Duoface is still a favorite in my collection!
Loved your video presentation love my first Jaeger Lecoulte love your tips on how to dress…but I already knew…you got it going on.
The only square rectangular watches I have are from Peugeot and Citizen. They don't cost much but I'm still happy with them. Hardly use my Rolex and I mostly use my Seiko's at home.
Totally agree with your point about the movement! It REALLY would have to be a version with a mechanical movement not quartz!
During these times, I have gotten away from wearing watches on my wrist because of all the excessive hand washing and sanitizing, unless I were to invest in something sterling or gold plated, because they are already antimicrobial and I don't have to risk ruining the finish. Pocket watches and belt loop hanging watches have been my recent style
To be honest sir 😂😂, I don’t know you if you are reading my mind . I was just planning purchasing the duo face of Jaeger le coultre then came across your informative upload ♥️
I also love the Breguet classique, which is relatively unknown in comparison
I got a lot and still get very much from owning and wearing the timepiece. Both dials are very simple, elegant and I still consider it quite an accomplishment, to incorporate 2 dials in one timepiece. My Duoface is more present on the wrist and is thicker than It seems from looking on the website. I have a black leather strap and the leather is very rich and has a high quality. In my opinion, the timepiece offers a lot for the money spent.
Whats the reference no. for that black face reverso you showed in the video?
I think this is the best watch to pass down for generations.
I can support the statement that JLC will always support their movements I have a 1956 LeCoultre and they made a part for it and still only charged me what that part should have cost not what it cost them to make it. Only downside is that they do not openly support non authorized watch repair shops which means that any repairs can become expensive and time consuming (one might expect that given the value of the watch but Omega does not do this anyone can order their parts meaning you can have lower priced repairs).
JLC reverso classic medium monoface is my grail. Never seen a better watch.
Why not the duo face if you don't mind me asking?
I always heard of these watches as "engineer" watches, because an engineer could protect the face when working in the field.
Great video!!
Una verdadera obra de arte, muchas gracias por compartir la historia e información de esta joya de reloj!
JLC is so underrated. Your average person doesn't know what brand it is
I don’t think it’s underrated, it’s more exclusive…
I wasn't aware of how small the Reverso was until watching this video. Very refreshing, actually.
I got the moon tribute model shown in this video. Love the story here
may I ask what the circumference is of your wrist? I'm having trouble finding the right size!
In my opinion, the JLC Reverso is a totally underrated. A Great Watch!
Finally!!!!!!!
More watch vids plzzzzz
I really like the Reverso Squadra because I have big hands and it fits by being chunkier than the regular Reverso
What timing, I was deciding between a Rolex Daytona, AP Royal Oak, and JLC Reverso tribute moon as my next watch...going with the JLC :)
That's a fantastic problem to have!
And with JLC, unlike Rolex and PP, one can actually go into the shop and buy it then and there. Imagine that! being able to buy it outright and not having to play some multi-year game...and usually at a fraction of the price.
The Squadra model works well on larger wrists, especially as a chronograph.
This is definitely my next watch ⌚️🤔🧐
fascinating...I had no idea the reverso was out of production for nearly 40 years and was only revived in 1982.
I didn't either. Hard to imagine wearing the reverso and listening to Michael Jackson and sporting a mullet.
Completely unrelated, but I used your small "it's important to be a good speaker" clip for a class project RUclips video. Thanks!
Really an ace outfit today, normally I’m not a fan of double breasted suits but that charcoal flannel really works with that style.
Can anyone please tell me what model of Reverso is the black dial one in the thumbnail? (With the Breguet numerals and squared small seconds?)
I’ve got a JLC reverso moon tribute and it’s absolutely beautiful beats a Rolex any day due to the style and class.
I enjoy wanting my watch every morning before I start the day. There is always an occasion to it.
The rose gold version is a stunner!
100% Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso is an elegant timepiece.
I enjoyed the video but would love to see you do on the Santos De Cartier.
Great video
Rememer the smaller the watch the older the money. Buying the large versions is quite tachy imo.
what if i don't buy a watch to showcase my money?
@@omar10213245 That’s the point. Buying large watches to flaunt once’s wealth is not elegant. Not sure how you Americans don’t seem to understand these concepts.
@@Milofchg good for you, Milo

Can anyone tell me reference number of the Reverso at minute 15:18? Also, what strap is that? It's very beautiful and I got to have it!
Whats yalls opinion on Grand Seiko?
ARE BOTH WATCHES (reversos) in your personal collection? Also, the one with ostrich band, what size is it? Is it the medium?
The black one is mine, the white I considered, but there is another I like more. Yes, it was the medium, I try to buy watches that both my wife and I can wear, that way we get more use out of them...

Can you review the JLC Master Control sector dial? is it a limited run. Can't find any online. Most beaufiful watch under 10,000 USD that i've seen.
In my humble opinion I’m sure anything from A Lange & Söhne would be suitable for you and your style. I’m surprised you went with a Rolex Pepsi GMT as seen in previous videos but to each their own.
Sven it's not really a watch guy he probably just bought that rolex for his videos
could you review the JLC Master Control SECTOR DIAL? It's the most beautiful watch i've ever seen and I can't find much on the internet on it. I think it is a limited run, maybe one or two years. classy watch. love your thoughts.
I love the Reverso. I'm just not at a point financially to afford one yet
Something to keep in mind, the trend is now going back towards smaller. This is especially true with the micro brand and independent watch scene.
Another great watch to review would be the Hamilton khaki for a more casual look, they can also be reasonably affordable too.
For me JLC being not as street recognizable is actually a positive. For me Rolex, while still very good watches, is a bit too recognizable and leave a bit aftertaste as many could name Rolex, but not name any other luxury watch. Personally I like JLC, IWC and Blanpain. I like a bit more minimalistic classical look.
Dunhill from London England owns or did own Cartier from France. Cartier made a number of watches for Dunhill, one of them is a copy of the Cartier Tank, which is about the same as the reverso in size. One of these even has a Jaeger-Lecoutre movement. The Dunhill facet is about 1/2 the cost of a Cartier, exact same model and movement, and about 1/3 the cost of a Jaeger-Lecoutre. The best watches Dunhill sold were made by Cartier from the 1990's to 2015 or so era. They were both bought out by Reichmont. (not sure of the spelling). - if money is important, look for a Dunhill.
Yup have one and it’s stupendous
