Tin Foil Burnishing? I think that would look great being coloured with Alcohol Inks too 😊

This is gorgeous! ❤ I can’t wait to try it. I would call it Faux Polished Metal.

Love those butterfly dies...really nice! Not sure this technique is for me though...a bit messy and fair amount of work. I'm a Less is More card maker... so I really like the tone on tone butterflies on the square card! Looks quite elegant!

It is repoussé though the gauge of kitchen aluminum foil is a bit thin. I would actually use a thicker gauge tooling foil. With a thicker gauge, you’d get less tearing and you would be able to sharpen the details.
I don’t know if Ten Seconds Studio’s channel is still on RUclips. But tooling foil was their main craft. The company isn’t around anymore. But they used to supply tools and foil and moulds.
I have used die cuts for a mould before. Embossing folders work well too. Also the kid’s craft faux stained glass pieces make excellent moulds. Even stamps or drawing your own design works. Stencils too.
Repoussé is like combing drawing with some sculptural techniques and it is actually how the Statue of Liberty was made.🗽
Another wonderful way to color the foil is with resin. You can fill the recessed areas with colorful resin to make a faux enamel design. You can also use a thicker glue like Glossy Accents or an acrylic medium that dries clear to fill the recesses. You can use dyes or acrylic paint mixed with your glue to create the “enamel”.
I actually still have a bunch of Ten Seconds Studio’s tools and moulds. I have a box of tooling foil too somewhere. Thanks for the inspirational reminder. I needed an idea for the cover of my art journal and I am going to do some repoussé and faux enamel. I think it will make a fantastic cover.

We use to do this back in the ummmm shhh 60’s-70’s but we glued down yarn and shipping twin onto any type of board surface, and rub the aluminum around our sting designs then use any color of stains(paints) and then buff the strings clean with a damp cloth, lol (back then we had paper napkins but they where super expensive) so it was a cloth buffing we did. If I remember right is was called string art, but don’t know what is would be with dies. lol 😂 even today it’s still cool to see the beauty arise for it. Tfs and the memory lane. ❤😊

Yes! I had an artistic cousin who did this with string back in the late 60's/early 70's. I do believe she called it foiled string art. It can also be done using a thick/tacky glue for the drawing and let it dry before applying foil.

Would it only work on layering dies or could you do the same by replicating one of your favourite dies?

Not sure what to call it, but it's pretty. I wonder if, while the background paint is still a little wet, if you could tap it with a gold foil. Lori

Nice technique! Since there is the "black-OUT-technique (with embossing folders)" - maybe this is a "black-UP-technique (with diecuts)"? because of the raised nature in contrast to the debossed nature of the blackout-technique?

Burnish Foiling? And in response to some of those who say they've "been doing it their whole life," I would say not everyone is as ancient as them. Everything old is new again!

    How about die-cut foiling

  • @Card_Crazed

Since the black ink/paint over a raised image is called black ice, I'd call this technique die cut black ice

Perhaps we could call it Faux Oxidized Metal .

Seems to me the receiver of the card is going to have a mess when they get the card. Especially if it went through the postal service. The black paint would keep coming off all over everything.

Wouldn’t Stayzon just, well, stay on? I thought that was the purpose of it. This looks great though. I’ve used foil in embossing folders before, but nothing like this. I’d call it hand foil embossing or something like that. I’ll be trying it regardless. The collection looks like something I’m putting on my list for Santa 🎅

    • @MaryEllen505
      @MaryEllen505 20 часов назад

She used paint so it would seep into the hollows and she could buff it off of the raised parts.
The StazOn ink would stick to the raised parts, leaving the hollowed parts plain.
