Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
Man a 10” plastic rainbow trout painted like that little one would MURDER the musky where I live. The detail with the soldering iron is amazing for soft plastic.
Excellent idea with that soldering iron. I just 3D printed up two new Injection molds using some High-Heat resistant resin. Still waiting on my first gallon of plastisol and assortment of colorants to do my first molding session. The resin I used is said to resist up to 320-plus degrees of heat. I think your soldering iron idea may still work but I actually fabricated a couple of small volume injectors out of aluminum. The volume of my mold cavities is a small 4 inch long bait maximum with a thin body. These DIY injectors look similar to the ones you use except that I've threaded the nozzles to accept some specially made cone shaped noses and thread protectors with tapered tips. The cone shaped points taper down to a small enough diameter so as to be able to do some precision application of different colors before injecting the main color. The good thing too about these 3D printed resin molds is that they are microwave safe; which in turn means that after applying the colored resin to form my surface color patterns I can then pop them back into the microwave and re-heat the plastisol for the smooth blending of all the colors. No hot plate needed. I've modeled a third injection mold in the form of an eel with a square bill to impart some squirming action. I'll be modeling one last injection mold in the shape of the paddle tail swim bait similar to the one you featured on this video. I'm going to have to quit watching so many of your videos. They're starting to mess me up psychologically. I can't stop thinking up new possibilities for soft plastic baits. Can you recommend a good therapist?
Always seem to be watching your videos while making my own baits. Cranking out a batch of 6.5 inch glides. Your videos have been an huge inspiration and influence for me with bait making. Happy I found your channel!
From the UK, the large one looks very similar to a small grey thin lipped mullet that I've used before as live bait sea fishing and caught big sea bass over 6lbs so will save up for both molds and try it. Thanks for the idea, my mind is now working overtime on what other small types of fish I can come up with will try and replicate a mackerel. I mostly do sea fishing and you're now made me thing outside of the box, many thanks
It took him few days to upload a ONE DAY~~~~~~ (NOT COMPLAINING just cant get enough) How about another fishing trip with the wife bring the baby too... Family that fish together stay together... Godbless more power to you
I have also used a soldering iron for baits. Back when I was younger and didn't have money for new senkos all the time I would bring a small battery operated soldering iron with me and melt them back together when they tore, it actually worked great. Sometimes I would add bright tails to other worms when the water was dirty which was also pretty cool.
"Ah you guys shouldn't be seeing that 👀" as you show prolong showing it, I know what your doing sir and I appreciate you peaking my interest for next the video 😂
Because of you me and my son have spent many hours with him making baits without the proper tools but we still make them he has made two baits a popper and a fire tiger crankbait he was also the one who told me about you and he is obsessed with making lures and I also enjoy making lures I have made a lipless crankbait
I may not have been a sub for 6 to 8 years like some of these other people, but ever since i’ve subscribed to Marling Baits ive had to watch every single video, ABSOLUTELY addicting and stunning with 90% of the work this man does, keep going strong marling. (maybe make a drop shot mold? i know i wouldnt mind seeing a little craw dad or maybe a baby minnow or tadpole.) Much love my guy.
I was wondering when you were going to post this bait, saw it on Instagram and I was like he did another great softbait. You are the king maker of fishing baits.
I don't really even fish but I really enjoy your videos. Mostly due to your sense of humor, but partly because of your taste in music (was excited to hear some Benjamin Tod in the background today). Keep on being your awesome self man!
I found your instagram and holy cow! I'm so glad you put these detailed swimbaits. You are so talented! The most realistic plastics I've ever seen! Still working on the jerkbait I'm making to send you.
Off topic of this video. Im in the middle of building my first swimbait. I had a few questions. Whats the wire you use for your hardware? Type of metal, gauge, etc. Also, you prefer epoxy over polyurethane? What would work best for salt water applications? Thanks. Great channel. I love the $900 swimbait build. Awesome content.
Ok I’ve got a challenging bait to make, a Sockeye Salmon. Possibly could use the bottom jaw as a lip! Also here in Idaho, Salamanders work really well for Bass too! You can try that as well (we use black bodies with blue tail tips).
Thats a pike catching lure for sure. A thing worth trying is to pour a bit of fine glitter in the mold and make sure it sticks to the mold before pouring. You can get some very intresting results that way.
Such an awesome looking smaller bait I agree with your wife that is one pretty sweet looking lure. The big one looks pretty sweet also. Would have been awesome if you were to catch your PB.

Challenge: clear film of soft plastic on inside of mold and airbrush detail on inside of film before shooting the lure.
