    Concern to the question of Oscar Merlos, mentioning, that Avegant Glyph is just as good as the NREAL device (because of 720 output). Beside the fact, that the Glyph is not as comfortable to wear, as the Air´s: Steam Deck CAN output 1080p and will on the NREAL Air glasses (Just tell the Steam Deck, to output the game in 1080p, when connected to an external "screen" (as it is, on NREAL Air). Not the newest AAA titles, but games from 2 or 3 years ago and older, no problem, especially when using 30 of 40fps mode. Thank you so much for mentioning the Nubia RedMagic Adapter (ordered one instantly, as on Black Friday Sale in the moment) (!!!) and quote my question! - I´m honored (as I am no native english speaker - I am from austria). Very informative vid, thank you for sharing! - Subscribed. :)

    What I really want to see from a pair of glasses like these are tools for carpentry work, like lines to keep things level, measures, pitch calculation and such.
    Show me where the studs are (or do I have to turn the glasses around to find that?)

      @@MercMan115 Using better tools doesn't get the job done for you. Imagine being able to see an anchored laser level line across your field of view that isn't effected by sunlight, isn't occluded by your body and doesn't require you to set the tripod up over and over again or figure out how to get it high enough.

    Took mine back after a few days. In the UK, it would cost at least an extra £100 to get prescription lenses put in them. They were uncomfortable, wouldn't work with most of my devices, would only "kind of" work with others, have massive issues with glare on the steam deck and caused nausea. This really is technology in its infancy. Still, I was amazed by the amount of people telling me to shut up and live with it on various forums, or trying to claim that I have an eye problem or astigmatism or something, when I don't.

    • @DavidAddis
      @DavidAddis  Год назад +4

      Fair enough! I agree it's still early tech.

    • @bloepje
      @bloepje Год назад +7

      If you have nausea, you are just not fit for current AR/VR technology.
      However, it is a very valid point that not everyone can see through it. People really need to realize that this kind of gear requires you to either test it for a few days and be able to bring it back if you can not handle it. Future generations might be better, but that would take another 20 years or so.
      But yeah: it cannot be said often enough: try VR/AR first. Or buy or rent to see if you can handle it with a return policy that allows you to return it if you can't. The device is too expensive to just buy and shut up and live with it.
      This is especially so for more expensive devices, but 400 euro is I think something you shouldn't just throw away.
      To be clear: if I would be sure this would be able to replace a 1920x1080p monitor for daily work and I would not have any of those problems, I would already have it.
      But as this guy says it: it might just not work for you for a slew of problems, of which 70% is between your ears (nausea, handling render problems), and 10% is between your brain and the glasses (optics). It's up to that 20% to fix it.
      But infancy no... Infancy was the nintendo 3D glasses of 30 years ago, together with the power-glove, that's how old this technology is for end consumers.

    To clarify your "As a Work Display" answer - are you saying that if the Nebula AR Desktop wasn't laggy, it would be comfortable to use for long periods of time? As in, the glasses physical comfort, resolution, and text legibility would be acceptable if the software was ironed out?

    • @DavidAddis
      @DavidAddis  Год назад +1

      Mostly… yes. I’m not sure the lag can be entirely fixed in software. It might be inherent to the hardware. Also the resolution is relatively low (less than 1080p) when using Nebula, so it wouldn’t suit doing tasks that require a lot of screen real estate. But if both of these problems could be fixed, I could see it being a valid alternative to desktop displays.

    answer to niel warren you could use an andriod and ios app called splashtop streamer it would need a server app installed on the laptop provided it works with the glasses you could have a remote pc or mac screen streamed directly to the glasses and you should also be able to control your computer wirelessly get a bluetooth finger mouse and pair it with your phone a good data plan for your mobile/cell phone and you could actually lose wieght and be more efficient by leaving the laptop stationary so as not to sleep also would save the laptop screen lifespan too i plan to buy a pair soon to use with my lenovo miix 520 with registry hacked intel gpu vram increased to 4gb ill buy a pair then hope they bring nebula to windows 10 and ill use them for my volumetric capture studio if they bring 3d sbs vision and steam support and either vive controller or 3rd party controller support like the nolo ns1 they could potentially be used as moderate use steam vr headset granted they dont have a camera but if these pick up in the hacking and modding community something im studying basic maths with intention of doing electronics and woodwork (woodwork means i can handle anything up to sheet metal) i have a quest2 and enjoy working in vr with vpatial and virtual desktop but id love a pair of mixed reality so i can use them to learn while using other devices as the learning station for me the ability to draw on my lenovo miix 520 tablet while having a tutorial on how to draw or 3d design something is worth what im willing to pay for them the quest is great for times when you just want to get busy but to be able to use them to practically learn and the fact i can program and there are plenty of open source apps that could be ported to work with nreal hopefully they pick up speed with the hacking and modding community they get steam support and windows 10 and 11 support and a version of nebula throw in a decent bluetooth camera nreal and let google AR and VR take care of the rest im buying a pair cuz they can be coded and have an openly available sdk for developers one of which i intend to be software and if possible when completed electronics hardware mods this will be perfect for my volumetric home studio and my secondary venture clothes printing and embroidery tools and software

    These claim to be like a 130 inch screen at around 10ft and also like a 201 inch screen at 6 meters. Is there different modes that actually make it look like these two different views? Or does it always look the same and they could also claim it’s like a 400 inch screen at 12m too?

    • @DavidAddis
      @DavidAddis  Год назад +2

      There is actually a sense of distance, like where your eyes are focusing on a screen as if it was in front of you. With Nebula (on Mac or Android), you can indeed change the apparent distance away from you, probably between the two quoted ranges (I haven’t measured that).
      With every other device, you are stuck with a headlocked display that feels like it’s about 4m away, and 130” sounds about right for that.

    I know these are early kit, and better things will come later, but this seems really half baked, not ready for production. I would pay a lot more for just a few more features. I really think this is what Apple is working on, something that isn't a full blown VR headset but something this size that can display the equivalent of two or three of their Studio Displays virtually so computing on the go isn't hunched over looking at a tiny single screen when the hardware can drive, well, two or three studio displays. Glasses like this that are just a little more powerful, even if a price tag of 2k, would be so useful and justify the price. These companies will be hurt by Apple but I don't think that will change sales of full blown PCVR headsets or even stand alone headsets.

    Got my pair yesterday. They feel cheap, loose, light. I kept hearing about how crisp and great the screen looks - and it does get bright - but text is difficult to read even after several hours of troubleshooting adjustments. Also, it only works on PC if you have a specific adapter. None of my third party usb c cables work with it, only the one it came with which is only 3-4 ft to my estimation. I tried it with my macbook too, and it's just meh. With the text being so blurry and hard to read, and the screen being such a disappointment - I dont think I will keep them. I kept reading and hearing that its like having a "201" or "130" inch screen (mixed claims from various sites) yet that has not been my experience at all. It's more like a 5 inch cell phone 3-4 inches from your eyes/ nose. Tons of peripheral vision around the screen because its so small. Idk - maybe Im doing something wrong here. That could be the case due to the horrendous instructions that are totally insufficient and all of the limitations and extra cables and adapters and coverters that are required depending on what you want to use it with - which is just another con to add to the list because it feels like this was a prototype kickstarter project. Id, I'll probably send it back and wait for the Quest 3 as long as it doesnt have those stupid fucking lenses with the rings on them and the screen door effect.

      I've had them for a few days. I am able to plug them directly in to my PC's USB-C and they work just fine as a second monitor. I played around with them a bit using MS Word and was able to split the screen to type a document while having a PDF side-by-side on the same monitor to read from. I didn't have any issues with reading the text in the main display area although it gets a bit fuzzy at the corners (I may need to adjust the nose pieces). While the PC, running Windows 10, recognizes the glasses as a second monitor I haven't seen an option to swap through multiple monitors and/or split the one giant monitor into separate, smaller, monitors, which I think would be better than doing a side-by-side. As for the steam deck, the picture looks crisp and the deck recognizes it as soon as it is plugged in. The whole issue with the deck shutting off the port after it gets below a certain battery level is a bummer though. Yes, I can get the adaptor, but more wires just means more clutter.
      I will say that while the glasses are fun, the lack of PC support and the battery/port issue with the Steam Deck limits their utility.
