What Once Was - The Story of Her's

  • This is a video I've been meaning to put out for quite a while. It's a different approach compared to the other stuff I've previously put out, but it is one that I was passionate about when I was working on it. I had made this originally for a project in one of my courses, but then I wanted to further expand upon the concept. The result is what you see before your eyes. It is meant to be a tribute to the band Her's and if there is anything I want you to take from this video, it is that I encourage you all to listen to their songs. Please do so as I hope their music remains relevant for years to come.

Such a sad history to tell, two big guys with such carisma stuck in the modern past for a lot of us that knew they history too late, the fear of became a nostalgic track it's something that keeps me thinking about her's such a lovely band, god bless them

Hey! You’re not OLD - I’m slightly ahead of you. Taken to see The Beatles live as a small child, I have loved so much music over the years - and seen great bands live - I absolutely love the music of Her’s - and I mourn the loss of such young and talented musicians and human beings.

The first song I ever heard of theirs was Harvey. I listened to it over and over and over again. Then I listened to their albums and there wasn’t a single song I disliked. Her’s were my top artists on Spotify in 2022, their music was mesmerizing and beautiful. Sometimes I’m sad because of all the music that they could have created if they were still here or that I’ll never get to see them perform live, but but looking back at all the hours I’ve spent listening to them and how much those songs mean to me, I realize they did more than enough. Thank you so much Her’s. I’ll never forget what once was

There are tears in my eyes, I miss them so much. The soundtrack to my first year of high school. I remember the day they passed, God they were gone too soon. Many years later they remind me of being younger and listening to Songs of Hers on the bus home. They sound like the sunset and falling in love for the first time. I will never stop wondering what they could’ve produced in the future

I cannot believe that this my first time hearing about the tragic car accident. It's really unreal. Like so many others I too fell in love with their sound and their music was like a ray of sunshine amidst some really heavy and challenging times. I'm incredibly sorry for the loss of these two humans and that they will never go on to write more music, but I'm so grateful for what once was and what still is and will be a lasting joy for myself anyone to come who will discover their work. Thank you for this passion filled tribute to an amazing band that will not soon be forgotten.

i always get this weird feeling when listening to them. It’s like they are still here. i don’t know if it’s like i’m not accepting the fact they are gone or what but when i listen to them i just get this euphoric feeling and i feel like they are still here. What happened to them was not fair at all. everyone talks about what they could’ve been, but we should continue celebrate them and “what once was.” They may be gone, but i believe they most definitely live through their music. You’ve depicted this amazing duo in such a great way. Thanks man❤

Discovered them at 16 now I'm 23. Years truly do fly by. They were strangely, even if I've never met them personally close to my heart. I've always hoped to see them live one day. And the fact that moment will never come. Not gonna lie. My heart aches. For nostalgia, melancholy, for moments beautiful and difficult that i lived through. Her's will never leave my mind, so in a way..they continually live through their music. And every now and again, I'll look to the sky amidst that sweet bass line, and gentle vocals and imagine what could have been and what once was.
Thanks man for making this. Truly. Have a good one!

Watching this video, I had broken down in tears for the first time in a long time. Their music means so much to be and it has for the past 3 years. Not one day goes by that I don't listen to their music. I listen to them on repeat and I never get tired of it, I miss them so much. I incorporate their music in almost every aspect of my life, whether it be cleaning my room, taking a walk, or showering I always find time to listen to their music and I share it with friends and family. One song I know I will never forget is 'Harvey' It was the first song I had ever heard from Her's all those years ago, and reminds me of my best friend of 5 years. It has become a classic between the both of us and I still listen to Harvey to this day. I don't want anybody to forget about Her's story/legacy and I know I for one will always remember the name 'Her's.' May they rest in peace.🕊

Thank you for putting these all together, they're one heck of a duo. Their remarkable influential tunes, the melodious yet complex chord progressions that Stephen magically come up with alongside his iconic guitar tone, Audun's lil dances as he plays his funky bass lines, gosh they were something. Her's will be truly missed :'(

I got to see them live in New york city with one of my best friends. They signed my hat and I caught a rose they threw into the crowd. If it wasn't for them I would have never picked up the guitar. Now I play bass for a band. They were passionate and down to earth. They were gentle and held an endearing presence. They spilled a little beer on my friends poster and I must've dissociated a little because it felt too real. Their faces and their laughs, I felt real.
It felt good to dance to their music. It felt good to dance in the crowd. It felt good to have been able to talk to them for as long as we did. Unfortunately all the videos and fotos of that night belong to a phone that no longer exists.

Every time I hear her's (especially "what once was"), I end up crying, and having so many of these thoughts running through my mind:
I immediately fell in love with their music, the way they perform, really encapsulates so much of what I've ever tried to do with my own music, and I felt an immediate closeness to them just because I think stephen and I look like we could have been brothers!
I remember seeing that they were coming to Phoenix where I live to play at my favorite venue to play shows at, the rebel lounge. My own band had a gig planned somewhere else for that night so I was not able to go.
Then I found out it was their *last* show.
How many countless songs had left to be sung? And yet, I am always touched by the fact that the music that they DID release in the short time of the band, was truly very timeless and impactful.

I discover them in 2020, with Harvey's song, after listening to their entire album, I decided to do some research on them until I saw the accident, My heart broke. You could see their desire to get ahead, their desire to live, to make songs on their faces. To this day I still listen to their music, I just love it and I keep asking myself, what great things would have awaited them if they were still alive? Would their songs be as good as the first album? Probably yes, but unfortunately we won't know.

Love u guys. I like that band of Her's

ive heard a few songs before, but i started diving into their music this past week, wondered why they havent made any more great music since Invitation to Her’s, a friend of mine told me what happened while at work, watched this video the next day, now i can just appreciate the greatness they released while they were still here. i wish i had heard them sooner, but even after just a week i am thankful for the music they created.

awesome video, possibly your best one yet! even your voice sounds like it’s been upgraded! Absolutely loved this Nando, keep it up! 🥳 her’s definitely has that mac demarco/Ariel pink/Homeshake/MGMT vibe to it. I had no idea that they were in an accident or passed away, that’s heartbreaking, thanks for sharing this 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Every time I hear their music I cry at least once even if the song isn’t sad. I found out about them literally right after they passed and to say I was sad is an understatement

Marcel by Her's is the #1 song attached to my memories of the first time I fell in love with someone, and will always be one of the most important songs in my life. It felt like my heart was ripped into pieces when I saw the news. Gone way too soon. 🥺
