The Ultimate Guide To Marbling Leather (Featuring @dadhands )
@dadhands is out on Cape Cod for a bit hanging around the shop and making things with me, so it was only natural that we decided to make a movie documenting her tried and true leather marbling process. Follow along as we make Size, float paint, make cool patterns and marble our own leather panels then top coat them for longevity - it's a super fun and very affordable technique to do at home! Don't forget to pick up her guide, it helped me out a ton even with her in the room because it has a lot of trouble shooting tips and tricks for cool patterns :)
Now I’m off down another crafting rabbit hole I’ve got some craft leather to play with!! It’s beautiful! Thanks! ❤😂
You’re a natural! Thank you for all the fun!! ❤️🙌🏻❤️
These panels would look awesome as the sides of the baguette!
So cool that you both have faces these days 😅 …but more importantly, nice tute and love the broom-based dropper. I’ve been marbling leather for a few years now and do it slightly differently, but it’s great to see Turbo’s techniques too.
Hope you’re better now, Eric!
27:23 "if you hear drilling in the background..." I half expected you to say "then you're doing it wrong" 😂
Thank you to both of you! It makes me happy to see you working in the same space together. I've done leather marbling before using dyes rather than paint. It is a fun process. I have everything to do marbling on leather with paint and have put it off due to, well, life. Marbling can be daunting if one doesn't pre-plan, work quickly and allow for spontaneity inside the creative process. I think natural toned dyes are more forgiving, but I really, really love the bright vibes one can achieve with paints. I'm going to purchase the marbling guide with mucho respect and hopes of learning Melissa's secrets to making beautiful marbled leather with paints. Congrats on finally getting bathroom!
I really like that red and white panel. It makes me think of a fantasy dragon.
Yea what would be cool is doing a budget shopping guide. I get foam sponges at the dollar store for a quarter the price. Thank you all for sharing!
Thank you Eric & Melissa!!! Creating a new Studio & Apartment is really considerable work, but Oh😳 the Joy it brings also!!! ... Eric, perhaps you do have use for marbled leather, as in smaller utilitarian products, such as a Journal Cover, Bible Cover, Checkbook Cover, Coin Purse, Forest Foraging Pouch, Pommel or Saddle Horn Pouch, Water Bottle Waist Belt Carrier, Cell Phone Waist Belt Bag, Pencil Case, Cosmetic Bag ... Well, you get the gist ... Love your videos, they are the BEST, and always bring me peace and a sense of joyful melodious harmony🎶
I have been marbling on paper and fabric for years. So excited to be able to bring the beauty of marbling to a piece of leather! Thank you!
Thank you for this guide! I failed before but maybe I can do it finally right with your guidance! I'm excited to try again ~
I remember in a video a while back you said you would show us your foot press staple machine. Whenever you have the time, i'd love to see that
Wow! That was amazing! Thanks @dadhands for pulling back the curtain and sharing your experience and techniques ❤🤘🏾
I’ve done this this type of marbling before but using silk paint and scarves. Never dreamed of doing it with leather paints and veg tan. Thanks so much to both of you! Keep on with the creative ideas.
Nicely done! And thank you for making the guide available!
I cannot tell you how helpful this channel has been for me in the small space these comments allow. I absolutely love Corter leather! The quality of the videos, the ambiance, the natural light, and the overall look and feel of everything y’all make. You’ve made the prospect of creating and selling your own work accessible to all of us. I appreciate everything you do for the craft community and leather working enthusiasts. I’m originally from Massachusetts, and I hope to one day stop by the shop and meet you both. Keep sharing, because we love it!
This video is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for!! Thanks for doing it, it's AWESOME!
I just started this video and I am already stoked! Just brilliant, mate. Bloody brilliant!!!
Yoooo this is an epic collaboration people!!!!! Love you both so much. Thanks for the awesome ideas they help so so much. ❤❤❤

im starting to make leather corsets and waist cinchers ... now im gonna try one with this technique
Love it…thank you so much for taking the time to please so many of us who keep wondering how it is done ❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤
Very nice very cool! There are so many options you can use as well as variations to the colors. I like using different shades of one color. I've bought the tutorial from Dad Hands and this is a great addition to it!
This is awesome! I listened to you guys discuss this last night live on Instagram. I have seen people do marbling from Facebook but this guide really let's me believe I can try it out myself. Thank you for everything that you do!
This is awesome thank you! cant wait to try this!
Love, love, love this video. Thank you both for your guidance and creativity. I will be placing my order for supplies … like uh, now.
This is the first video I've watched where you've shown your face. And I had a polar opposite image of you in my head ever since I started watching your videos many moons ago. I always thought you'd be clean shaven with a very close haircut, almost like the brothers Trenton and Heath . 😊 What a surprise,!! 😊
Hey thanks for making this. Definitely gonna get Melissa’s handbook. Also Love that supreme had a Pyrex colab.
Eric, I commented you on your decision to reveal yourself in videos. You’re a handsome guy and your appearance in videos adds a lot. Good content here…I may have to give it a try! I mostly make holsters but I think I can handle getting laughed at by guys at the range. Lofton in Philadelphia
This is super cool - thank you for the guide. We'll be trying this. Probably make a huge mess, and it won't look anywhere near as good, but it looks too fun not to at least give it a shot.
Hey thank you for your content.
I enjoy your videos because they involve all the same non-mechanized things most of us have to use.
I’ve been trying to understand the basics of veg tanned, dyed veg tan, chrome tan, and what can be used to make what profitably. I’m a long way away from making any net profit on leather, but if I could make a few dollars that would be awesome.
It’s seems much simpler just to buy undyed and make it whatever color. But it seems like a lot of leather businesses I see on social media basically just buy beautiful leather, die cut or laser, sew it up and finish. So it’s like the price of their goods is wrapped up in cost of materials and tooling as their business has grown. Which is a little like a factory. I admire that you are more involved with your work.
In your experience, does the ability to profitably make something like a wallet change between pre-dyed leather and leather you dye yourself? Or does the price of more craftsmanship support the extra time?
Do you find that you can simply charge for more skill/craft in comparison to your mechanized peers? Or is more creative?
Thank you for your time, I used to co-own a bike shop that had a non-traditional approach, and I’m just always curious when I see unique businesses that stand out. ✌️
Thank you for your content. I have learned so much!
So much fun. Thanks Melissa @dadhands
Thank you for checking it out Audrey!! ❤️❤️❤️
It's like pour painting but for leather, and better. A++ 🤌🤌
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Eric!
Radical, dudes!
Awesome video ✌
super cool!!
Love this❤
gonna apply this on my watch, brb in some months
sweet! I use similar technique to dye Frisbee discs
I love the videos bro keep them up! btw, im thinking about getting some dye but im curious if there is a smell from the dye, and if so how long does it last and is it very strong?
Is it possible to do this with leather dye? To keep the natural leather look
Natural look is perfect.
We don't need this work. It is good to know but a prefer the natural color.
Taste is taste.
Can you use the color change or metallic dyes this way? How about carefully painting (with color change or metallic paint) to small areas or outlining after the marbled paint is dry?
Amazing video, guys!!
Do you think you could use the marbled leather in wet molds? 🤔
Love this tutorial! Can you also use Resolene as a top coat as an alternative? I use Resolene a lot for small painted leather projects, just curious if you think it would also work as a top coat for this type of marbling?
Fantastic tutorial!
Question: After marbling and whatnot, can this still be hot stuffed?
Can these be molded still, like for sheaths and bags and such? Or are the panels more suited for flat things like wallets after this?
Thankya. Thankya very much.
Thanks or thank.
@@joaoalbertodosanjosgomes1536 Its a reference to him saying he sounded like Elvis. Sorry for any confusion.
Thanks for this. I just bought the guide. How do you get more vivid colours?
I ❤ leather.
Do you know if dye (instead of acrylic) would also float? or will that get instantly diluted?
Never seen your face. I have watched so many of your videos
Nice
Do bridle/woodgrain !!
I think it is bitterroot leather works. He does some of the best.
Question, are Fiebings paints are gonna work as well with that technique?
Do you ever get leather from Waterhouse leather on the cape??
Did you use Alpha 6, AlphaFlex Electroshock Leather Paint pr Alpha 6 leather Paint?
cool
Are these paints waterproof what would happen if the paint was rained on?
How durable is this x stunning
how long can you hold the water/carrageen mixture?
👏👏👏
@dadhands is the mf goat
❤️🥹❤️
What is carrageenan, and where can you buy it? I've never heard of it.
What will i keep the marbling art on leather with tokonole or?i did not find
What did you use after to put on the leather kinda hard to hear?
"Level" or "heaping" teaspoons?
Guide link expired
Are you the buckle guy from Amazon?
Oh... that's four tea spoons and not forty spoons... that makes sense...
Hey, you said my password out loud!
You're basically hydrodipping leather
This art is Turkish art EBRU
Not my 🍵, but good video
To me too.
hmm i was specifically told "dadhands isnt real and it cant hurt you" .....
Good idea but I don't 👍 colored leather.
Leather doesn't need it. Taste is taste.
Please. Leather to put A4 papers. Very simple to we make. Thank you.
I 👍 soft leather. From where soft leather does come? Which animals?
I loved this channel so much more when there was no talking.
The colors on paper are very beautifuļ but on your handş they are ugly
What a horror my Allah!
Leather is not to be colored after production.

You cannot color your skin because it is a distortion of Godś creation
