Congrats on the 2 years and handling it all so well! I always admire your positivity and that diabetes kinda opened the door for you with starting a business and interviewing other Type 1 enthusiasts who have also started businesses. I would love to see a video, if there isn’t one already, about what inspired you to do that. Keep charging along! ❤

Congrats on your 2yr .. I was diagnosed with type 1 back in 2013 I had all the symptoms hit me at once I remember cooking out at of the sudden my vision was going wake the stars would look like fireworks , I was drinking also I started to get a bad awful headache with nausea, throwing up, but I was so thirsty that I couldn't criench my thirst, then I had to pee every 30 mins that was on a Friday, I thought it was something I was coming down with , sat night my whole body was hurting that just touching in part of me it would hurt so bad . Sunday they took me to the er where they taught it was a bad case of the flu so they sent me home ,the next day I went back where they did test on me , my blood sugar was 750 at stroke level, I was hospitalized for a week and half , within two months I lost alot of weight, from 2 01 to 120 that wad all in two months , but i didnt really take care of my self till now that alot older am but a little late for my two big toes that got amputed , the price for not taking care of myself for not taking it serious. , I enjoy watching your videos on the topic, May u have a bless day

Samantha, first of all congrats on thriving for the last two years. I'm sure you know by now that it is never easy, but it does get easier. I've had some poor medical experiences as well, starting with being misdiagnosed as type 2 back in 2014. I won't bother you with all the details but I wasn't properly diagnosed as Type 1.5 for another two years. I think that there is still a poor education of diabetes in general, and especially in regards to LADA (type 1.5) amongst medical personnel. The system seems to still be designed around a falicy that Autoimmune Diabetes is only a juvenile condition, and it seems that is where the training programs and resources are most focused. From what I've seen when a child is diagnosed there is extensive training for the child and the parents, but for adults diagnosed, it seems more like figure it out yourself. I know I had to learn how to use an insulin pen by watching a RUclips video. I hope you sharing your story will help bring awareness to the issue and offer other newly diagnosed some comfort that things will get better. Keep shining a light on it and showing people you can still thrive after diagnosis. Thank you

So many of your symptoms were the common symptoms of diabetes. Not that I expect a primary care doctor to understand diabetes as well as an endocrinologist, but I am shocked that your doctor didn't automatically suspect diabetes with the symptoms you mentioned to her.

Do you know about LADA diabetes and MODY diabetes? You should look it up. You sound like you might have one of those types especially if you are still producing some insulin. LADA is like type one diabetes, but it comes in a lot slower. You loose insulin production over years instead of weeks or months. MODY is genetic. There are several different kinds, but if you are not producing enough insulin then I is probably one of the kinds where you don’t produce enough. The protocol is different than type one so if you have it there may be things like pancreatic enzymes that you can take to help manage it.
Five an Endrocrinologist that is knowledgeable about there’s forms and have them test you. I know it seems like all Endrocrinologist should know about all forms of diabetes, but they don’t.
