Thank you Capcom. SF Alpha became the template for other games like the 2D Marvel Vs. Capcom games and iterations. This art style blended perfectly with the 90's X-men up to Marvel Super Heroes.
Alpha 3 was my childhood, It introduced me to competitive street fighter and it was a blast to play with alot of friends.
I loved Alpha series, I wish Capcom would bring back this art style again on a future Street Fighter game

@@portalsofmadnes 3rd Strike and SF3 were the last SF for me because of this reason. The animations for IV and V look like a Pixar movie so I moved to others like KOF 13, BlazBlue and Persona. I don't think we will ever get a SF with these graphics which is a shame since these games are beautifully crafted.
Street Fighter 2 series bought me into Street Fighter and started my relationship with Street Fighter, but the Alpha series was where I truly fell in love with Street Fighter. It didn't have the commercial, pop-culture love that SF2 had, but it definitely felt more refined.
I feel like it should be noted the art style of the Alpha series was also a contributing factor to what made the Marvel vs series so great. The hand drawn art in alpha was just... perfect. Every character was absolutely gorgeous and still is.
And every game which employed that art style had amazing music.

The Alpha series is my personal favorite. And the classic Marvel vs. Capcom games had the same visual style.
All the CPSII fighting games did. Alpha, Marvel, Darkstalkers. This era was peak Capcom.

I enjoyed the GBA Version of Alpha3 more than I enjoyed SF4 and I hate SFV because of the lack of everything. I don't think with Today's Capcom Fighting Game Division that there is any chance of an Alpha 4 being good. That's why they got back and will us give access to their great history of Fighting Games instead. Or do you really want a SFA Game with half or 1/6 of the roster of Alpha3, because they're released in DLCs and Season Passes later? I don't and even Capcom realized that the Silhoette Stuff is BS. That's why they showed us every character in the cinematic S3 trailer. If Capcom wanna do a Alpha4 they should outsource it to ArcSys. (BUT LAUNCH IT WITH A FULL ROSTER!)

pretty obvious they do, but casuals like sfa3 more because it has more modes and more to do.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 is one of my favorite games of the whole franchise and one of my favorite games ever.
The Alpha series put Street Fighter on the map for me, it's the revolution of Street Fighter in my personal opinion.
I've got next week off work, I'm gonna play these on PS4 all week! Can't wait for the SF3 retrospective.
Can’t wait to buy this. My only wishes were that A: all games had online play, and B: Some more obscure SF games like Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, SF The Movie and SF The Animated Movie were included.
Of course they won't put anything new in this compilation. They just keep literally re-releasing all the same stuff over and over. This version is even missing something like 6-7 titles from the PS2 compilations...
or the other SF Animated Movies like the Alpha Movie and Generations ^^ or even that SF4 Animated Movie

I don't think the movie games won't be added since the live action one is based on Universal's film and that game is made by a different developer and the the Animated movie game is console exclusive. Gem Fighter will be a maybe if they make a fighting collection featuring obscure fighting games.

As beautiful as the sprites and overall art in the SF3 games is, I always preferred the manga inspired look of the Alpha series. Love it.

Yeah, plus it's a huge improvement from the dualshock 2, but if you ask me you'll get the best experience from the fightstick, I got mine and I'm ready for Alpha 3 and 3rd Strike

alpha era is one of the best street fighter lapses but there's something in this games that make you feel you're not playing a street fighter game at all.
Alpha 3 is my favorite SF game. It has the best announcer in any video game EVER, and it’s just so fucking good.

I'd like hear more tournament war stories for the SF3 video, before getting to the obvious "Evo Moment #37."
And it would be awesome if Capcom gets another veteran to do a version of these retrospectives from the perspective of the Japanese scene (with English subs!)
Playing Alpha on the Sega Saturn was one of the best times I had with the Street Fighter series. Will be great to re-experience it.

Street fighter Alpha series provided me one of the best parts of my life, specially for someone who loves street fighter, best music and voice actors
I can’t wait to relive these games in a much better, more arcade realistic manner in modern consoles (though I’m seriously concerned about the netcode as always). Thanks for another excellent job on the retrospective series, James. You’ve become the voice of Street Fighter history.

The Anniversary Collection is a bunch of initial-release, US-market arcade ROMs packaged with emulators and net code. None of the games will have any features from console releases.

there was also a PSP version of street fighter alpha 3 called street fighter alpha 3 max, except it had ingrid from capcom fighting jam, maki from SNK vs capcom, eagle from the original street fighter, and Yun from Street fighter 3, also playable in capcom fighting jam that everybody nearly forgot.

My personal favourite Street Fighter saga
One of the first games I played on my original PlayStation was Street Fighter Alpha. Good times!
I loved the console version of SFA3, tons of content. Plus extra characters like Guile and Fei Long. Initially my only negative was the music, but eventually I started to like the whole vibe.

Alpha was great, very exciting to see that for the first time in the arcades. Played really well too, very familiar.
For someone that's never played an Alpha game this was an awesome crash course. I'm still unsure how these custom combos work and the isms still confuse me but I'll definitely be trying the series out on the 30th Anniversary Collection. Great stuff.

Alpha 3 Upper/Max is still my favorite SF game of all time. Best roster and most fun to play.

Alpha 2 still remains my favorite overall SF game.
great spinoff series. each street fighter alpha game was unique, brought something to the series. SF alpha as a whole got us used to the idea of air blocking and alpha counters - the first parry technique. SF alpha 1 got us chain combos....sf alpha 2 got us custom combos in addition to using supers in the game. SFalpha 2 did not have "select your super select your fighting style" so every custom combo/super was available to use in mid battle, a concept I prefer to later street fighter games. SF alpha 3 had a more in depth custom combo system and had mid air juggling and recovery and a larger character roster. unfortunately, the definitive version of sf alpha 2 - sf alpha 2 gold is absent in this collection, as is sf alpha 3 max, which includes eagle, maki, Ingrid........

I enjoy playing the Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 games. In my opinion Alpha, 3 is one of the best fighting games made.
To this day Aphha 1 is my favorite Street figter game. The Sega Saturn version of Alpha 1 will always be my favorite. Its the first time I felt I was truly playing the arcade at home. Many nights up playing that port. Yea I know 2 and 3 had more choices but Alpha 1 has that sweet spot for me. Just think its a perfect game IMO.

Why did Capcom stop using the awesome Purple Shadows when it comes to Super Combos? That was such a cool visual cue and gave Supers a much needed flash! I know nowadays in SF 4 & 5 we have fancy camera work and whatnot for the Supers, but I still think they could definitely use the purple shadows to emphasize the difference between a Super and a Normal move
Even though this is only for the games in the 30th anniversary collection, I would love to see this done with Street Fighter IV and V just for fun.
I might just get this for both systems I'm trying to get the ultimate online experience
Alpha 3 and Xmen vs Street Fighter are the two best games. I wish this collection included the later but I can understand copyright may have blocked it.

Alpha 3 was so fun! I can't wait to play as Evil Ryu, Yun, Maki, Eagle, Guile, THawk, Fei-Long, and Deejay! Oh, and get back into World Tour mode!
Maybe after that I'll play some Alpha 2 Gold and play as Cammy! I mean, for $40 they aren't just going to have some incomplete collection right?

Alpha Chun's voice = Asuka from Evangelion (Yuko Miyamura). She sounded so hard in A1, not sure why they wanted her to do a more "cute" portrayal in A2 and A3.
I hope they also do a retrospective for the Street Fighter EX series.
