    I've used this video 3 times in the past 3 years and it's help me out a lot. Each time I tried redoing it it kept asking for a restore disk, but when in doubt I come here

    Thank you very much! You really helped me figure out how to fix my computer. I bought it at a pawn shop for my son for school and could not figure out how to fix it so he could do his work. I understand the ranting because I also have a Dell that went down and they wanted to charge me 150 dollars to go step by step to troubleshoot the issue. I love youtube because you can find tutorials that save you big time. Thanks again.

    Thanks man. This was easier than talking to customer service. They couldn't do it. They told me go back where I purchase it and have them do it for me.

    I went to the computer shop and they wanted me to pay £50 for them to fix it. I asked the bloke on the desk what they were gonna do to it and he said 'restore it to factory default.'
    You just saved me £50 :) Thanks!

    Thank you. I have fixed a few computers (restoring to factory state) but could not remember how to do it on an asus. I was not reading the on-screen prompts correctly, but your video pointed out the correct sequence for me. good job making this video!

    That i can agree 100% with you, as a matter fact purchased at least 2 or more for customers since, My ranting and gripe is with support techs, mainly Asus but same goes for all the other manufactures. Just becoming more and more difficult when there is an actual hardware issue, and you need it replaced.

  • @biggonyouTechWhisperer
    @biggonyouTechWhisperer  10 лет назад +1

    For a system restore yes, but this method is for full image reload, all files will be lost, system will be just like it came from box or factory.

    Well I took a risk the reset did everything you recorded but after that, my laptop now seems to be looping between “laptop is setting up for its first use” screen, then welcome screen, opens up windows for a min, then I get a reconfiguring the system please wait screen. Although I did just notice it seems to be adding a program to my desktop every time so I’ll just wait a couple hours and report back on status then. Fingers crossed!

      biggonyou : Computer Whisperer One thing I find is no group of people have more excuses than MAC users. They got an excuse for EVERYTHING. If MAC was causing cancer they would say "Not everybody trying to live forever. Just like how some smoke knowing they can get cancer, some people are OK with MAC Cancer. It's preference". I swear. LOL
      Then, when I run into problems figuring out basic things on MAC,the MAC folks can't help either. ROFL

    Ok after further scrutiny, I got to the point where it's now saying this: The request cannot be performed because of an l/0 device error. See the system Event Log for more info. There is currently no extended partition to create the logical drive in. Create an extended partition then try again. What do you think is the best solution?

    ............the "recovery options" and on there its got...
    1,Startup repair
    2,system restore
    3,System image recovery
    4,windows memory diagnostic
    5,command promt
    But there is no reset to factory settings or anything like that, i tried the system restore back to as early as it goes which was in November 2012 however the system restore won't work neither it comes up with an error saying it couldn't find the specified file on all restore points, should i reset with fresh install win7 ?
    Thanks

  • @biggonyouTechWhisperer
    @biggonyouTechWhisperer  11 лет назад

    That's possible but very rare, check in your bios settings and make sure that you have AHCI and not IDE selected or raid. This is very unlikely i would be willing to bet you have a bad Hard drive or some sort of hardware issue not uncommon, usually on drives 8months or older like the one in this video (8 months) it happens often. (a restore shouldn't have done anything but re installed windows period, if you followed all steps correctly.) keep me posted.

    Let me make sure I understand your answer. If I've installed a new blank hard drive and run the OEM restore DVD, after the process is complete, the new hard drive will have the recovery partition, just like when it was factory new? So future restores could be done from the hard drive without using the recovery DVD?
    Asus states on their recovery help page not to delete that partition because it can NEVER be recreated. Obviously if the drive crashes the partition is lost.
    Thanks for your reply.

    • @biggonyouTechWhisperer
      @biggonyouTechWhisperer  10 лет назад

      No during the reload from DVD, you will not have a recovery partition on new hard drive you can create your own, also you will need the drivers for your laptop unless DVD came directly from asus and is meant for your laptop. On the bright side an original clean install is almost always better than a recovery load hands down is the best.

  • @Landotter1
    @Landotter1 9 лет назад

    This is all fine and good but if this is run and you have made a partition for your data.... if the machine goes back to factory, do you lose your partition because it wasn't there at factory setting...

    Thanks for this helpfull video. But sadly I got another question, I can't find the answer anywhere because my situation is very odd. My asus' screen is broken and I always pressed the fn+f8 combo to connect to an other screen. After I did this reset to factory thing, I rebooted my computer and quickly pressed fn+f8 and I saw: resuming windows. After that a black ( cmd alike ) screen pops up with a white underscore and then my connection with the extended screen falls out. Now the thing is from this point I don't know what my computer is doing, do I need a CD or something? Why can't I use the fn+f8 buttons anymore? Could you guide me blindly trough it if it's something I have to do? Tell me.
    Thanks a lot!
