The winding hilly roadway going around Ewarton, MT Rosser, and Bog Walks Gorge made motorists and passengers alike so hungry. Then, most was forced to make a stop at Faith's Pen to eat and stretch their legs. With the highway taking you to and from Kingston to St Ann, in record time, there is no need to stop and eat and stretch legs because one would be reaching their destination before hunger and leg cramps starts to sink in. Faith's Pen will be no more, as well as other old-time things in Jamaica, when development gets even more advanced.

I remember the days from Mobay to Kingston every 2weeks it's a shame Jah Jah it set away help fada God enough is enough respect to all I beautiful island haven't seen you in awhile but soon outa Pittsburgh
I stopped here last year. Only 2 stalls were opened. Food was absolutely delicious as it’s always been. Breaks my heart that this once hot spot has come to this though. This was the bread and butter for many.
There's a place in America called route 66. Same thing with highway build happened. Hundreds of miles of businesses lost their customers. Now route 66 is dust and decay.
Unfortunately the new highway killed business. Use to love this place when going to Ochi from Kingston. It was even better before they moved there . Fun times
I remenber this spot at Faiths Pen, I use to stop here regular but I now used the highway, the last time I stop may be about 20 years ago, going to Dover Raceway it was a must stop for me to get food, in the morning about 8am I stop to ɓuy food and the vendor served me overnight food ackee amd saltfish which I didn't happy about, sometimes no saltfish in the ackee, but it was a favourite stop for me, but overnight they were getting so expensive, I will always remember this place, during holidays nowhere to park inside so you can imagine the crown, it was a spot we all love, I am very happy for you to showcase this so great work, I am looking for more of this. Crystals Bakery in Ewarton, was also a favourite spot as well and the pork jerk spot located in front bauxite entrance very good jerk, good job sir.
The lack of traffic also had an impact on the fern gully tourism as well . We see similar issues with Bog walk Gauge . Pity it cannot be converted into some sort of business place, ( never say never ) with even a gas station, which may still do the area some good and keep some of the stalls in place . I grew up in Coal Gate, and know the area well, and was used to the tourists passing through the area going from Ochi to Kingston and Spanish town visa versa during the Sixties . I still pass through the are sometimes when i visit Jamaica, and the area is till a beautiful place .
Im not sure but I think back in the 80's the place was located nearby to this location.Stopped at this one on one occcasion and had some excellent Manish Wata
I think this place should serve as an example of what happens to vendors when they refuse to focus on quality. Faiths Pen was going under long before the highway opened, so let’s not place the blame solely on the lack of traffic, if you will. Does anyone remember when Boston Jerk Center was the premier jerk spot in Jamaica? Can we say that’s the case now? Furthermore, there are far too many vendors selling the same food vs the amount of patronage.
Hard to find real Jerk anymore with the real flavour of scotch bonnet peppers. KEPTCHUP (nor any sauce for the matter) does not belong on Jerk period. Han mi nah care wha unnu wan fi say.
No it is not completely closed down but it soon will be and the way that we can keep it open is to keep using it. I myself will not use the toll I prefer the scenic route and if I'm hungry I will stop. There are two stores if not three open at times, this is such a beautiful place and it should be used as popular as it was back in the early nineties I'm not saying Jamaica cannot be modernized but do not not shut off the locals and leave the residents with nothing to look forward to this is so sad. Right there's a good spot to rent out and hold events and everybody eat ah food.
Good morning Birth you are talking truth these little shops were going on from in the seventies guess what I agree the high Way changes every thing the hole world is changing lots of abandon buildings all over the world
Wonder if they can do something on a much smaller scale...like 5 shops. Clean uo and MODERNIZE di ting! If place is clean, looks good and food is good...ppl will support!
Glad it’s closed. The vendors were all getting out of hand , with their prices and , to make matters worse, most of the food were not fresh anymore. This is always what happens with most Jamaicans, “want to be rich overnight “ , so we start to become unscrupulous in our business dealings.
Jah Jah know the government should've dealt with the situation better than that when building the highway make decent rest stop on the highway that the people could continue their living as a youth going ohci an mo bay you to stop there an it always pack of people
Faiths Pen rest stop was not up to par after a couple years. They were not cooking to please their customers. People started drifting away due to the bad tasting food. They can always blame the highway...they caused it on themselves.
They never painted nor improved from the time it was built. The food stalls were dirty and customer service nonexistent. The food had become mediocre and they all served the same thing. Look how far likkle Ochi deh, han dem pack up. They just didn't care. People have many more options. Just as rundown and ramshackle as its ever been.
Unfortunately, it seems like Jamaican's have falling into eating at places like Burger King and Domino's Pizza. I was grew up and live in Canada, and trust me, it doesn't even cross my mind to go into those places and eat that mass production stuff.
I used to love stopping by Faiths Pen back in the day. So sad they not operating again😔
The freeway/ bypass has its good and bad. This is one of them.😎

That space can be converted into a small gated community off the highway, only problem residents probably can only have access to it from the highway.
