I think that your airline and some other East Asian airlines such as ANA and EVA air should be considered as the reference in terms of friendliness, politeness, taking care of their passengers etc. Your airline and the others mentioned are in my opinion a benchmark to other airlines in the world especially some of the Western airlines. OneStop Tripreports yes you are right, and that also applies to all 787 including 787-8(788), 787-9(789) and 787-10(78J), so it is quite good to see JAL staying on 2-4-2 on their 787-8 and 787-9
JAL actually has around 18.9" per seat in economy (which is closer to 19"), and with a 33" seat pitch, it makes it one of the roomiest economy seats in any B787 airline. Even their B777 continue to uses 3-3-3 or 2-4-3, and they even increased the seat pitch to 34" per seat! As opposed to many airlines where 3-4-3 is becoming the norm in B777 and only 31" seat pitch is the standard.
This is why I love watching Simply Aviation. Their videos are mostly in Economy class. The reason why this is helpful is that there are people like me who can’t afford to fly business. These economy class videos show us what we are expecting when we are flying an airline we haven’t flown before. Thx Simply Aviation! Without your reviews, none of use would know what some economy class airlines feels like.😄😄😄
Excellent point about economy class. The true measure of a carrier is how well they treat their lowest paying customers...just like the true measure of a person is how well they treat someone who cannot do anything in return.
Watching this in 2021 and tearing up. God I miss flying and transiting through airports with lots of people around. Particularly love flying with JAL from YVR to NRT, their service is impeccable.
On that approach to NRT you can see a house in the middle of the taxiways. When NRT was built, the guy would not give up his land so they built the airport around him. Imagine the plane spotting from his bedroom window.. I'm ex JAL staff and so happy to see them back again among the big players.
I’ve flown on the 787 many times with other airlines offering the 3-3-3 configuration . This is truly a massive step up in comfort . You have made me want to fly with JAL now . Thanks for sharing .

Once got to fly when I was really young on a JAL 787 from Boston to Tokyo, honestly one of my youngest and my favorite memories of aviation. Didn’t get many pics, and I don’t really remember it, but still awesome.

This is such a nice and valuable gesture from the JAL crew. Because they recognised you as a passionate airline-enthusiast, they gave you such a nice scaled JAL B-787 airplane-model and personal signatured postcards. This is the Japanese honesty. Back in March 2017 at my home airport in DUS I had the great opportunity to visit a Singapore Airlines A350-900. And I have the great opportunity to meet the entire cabin-crew. After my visit onboard they donated me a small bag with a scaled SIN A350-900 model with a wooden-panel, a SIN A350 Safety-Card and the SIN A350 inflight magazine. It was an unforgettable experience.
Jasmine Johnston and? Many airlines have suffered extreme incidents. New airlines (qatar, Emirates and Etihad) were lucky enough to be in an age where aircrafts are extremely reliable.
Not only that...JAL won Best Economy Class (overall, not just the seat) in 2019. Any airline will pamper their F/C/PY passengers...it’s Economy where a carrier shows its true colors.
I was flying with ANA 787 and I must to admit that Japanese carriers just crush european opponents :) Crews are so nice and quality and ammount of food is legendary!
Had one of the best experience of travelling with Japan Airlines, from Tokyo to Dallas,TX. Great food, Great hospitality and a perfect In-flight entertaiment. Would highly recommend using JAL.

Too bad my first flight on a 787 was NRT-SJC with ANA, not JAL. I heard ANA started out with 2-4-2, but then changed to 3-3-3 with 31 inch pitch after squeezing Premium Economy in front. The service was good, but the seat was one of the most uncomfortable on a long haul flight.
Woahhh that flight looked amazing!! The cabin and all its amenities looked wonderful, amazing catering, and such a lovely gesture from the crew at the end! I’d 100% fly with JAL if I had the chance 🥰
Very nice video David! I enjoyed all of them! I just flew past my house on the 7:10 mark in the video. I see this same aircraft almost everyday lading and climbing from my house.
Seating and all aspects of the food service were above average for economy. The IFE looked very responsive and with good variety. Overall, among the best of economy flights!
Good to know about one seat less. Swissair used to also. Love the legroom. You should compare with ANA. JAL here I come when I go to Japan. Austrian Airlines could learn something. I don't like fruit as a desert though. Wonder if western meal had the same desert.
Semsem Eini Fruit isn’t the only dessert, both the ice cream and the fruit are desserts, also fruit is needed to prevent jet lag and it’s much healthier than a cake. FYI, the western and Japanese meals in economy have no difference, the only difference is the main course.
I wish I could agree with you on Japan Airlines but I flew a Dreamliner out of LAX heading for Tokyo ~ Takeoff and landing was great my big problem was the food ~ I was sitting in Economy Class where once the person sitting in front of me put their seat back I felt like I was in a straightjacket and I'm not a big guy I don't know maybe they upgraded and improved on their seating ~ Next too say that the food reminded me of something someone might call Jail Food is an understatement, to say the least ~ My biggest problem was the last meal severed about 2 hour out from Tokyo after not being feed anything for almost 8 hours ~ It was mushy rice for breakfast that as I was looking at other seats In the cabin no one else was eating either ~ It was horrible and I was so hungry and now in a bad mood ~ When I got off the plane there was no place to grab a bite to eat in close proximity near where I was at the airport ~ I complain to JAL about it but no one followed up ~ You would think that a big company like JAL would offer food for nonJapanese people to eat after flying out of LAX but they didn't ~ Never again will I fly JAL ~ WORSE FOOD ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS ~ Like eating in a resturant that you can't leave ~ My next flight to Japan was on ANA which was so much better ~
JAL seems to have a great inflight service and are very customer friendly. Like the interiour of the JAL dreamliner, classic JAL colours white,black, red...looks really nice and comfortable. The food looks delicious and great that U got 2 hot meals on the flight. The present U got from the crew is really sweet :) Thanx for this film, nice to watch

Your channel is the best ❤️ I love JAL, the video has shown their service is amazing. What I love most about Japanese cuisine besides sushi is their light and fluffy pancakes, and their green tea. I loved how the flight crew gave you an airplane model and a card.
Stellar service & flight 10/10, Best JAL Favorite parts: Boeing 787-9, the interior/layout of JAL, the views of the sunrise, the mountains and the landing in Narita during flight, the Finnair A350 capture during taxiing on Narita, the crew's attention towards you. And last but certainly not least, ALL THEM MEALS THAT LOOKS SO GOOD.
Unusual from my perspective to see no boarding at the front of the aircraft but near the engines and at also not the rear ?? No de icing prior to take off...? At 11.23 that's not just the Sun...its the Rising Sun ( I think) I must comment that in Economy you are well fed and watered...something many airlines have cut back on !! Food looks great !! Excellent trip report and flight David. Hope to be flying with them later this year from Melbourne (Australia) to Japan and am really looking forward to it !! I know that from Australia Japan Airlines and Finnair have some pretty good deals in Business Class to Europe if you don't mind the stop overs ! I agree amazing !
Ich hatte meinen besten Economy Flug mit Japan Airlines in der 787-9 von Frankfurt nach Tokio. Nicht nur der Sitz mit der guten Beinfreiheit war gut, auch das Essen und vor allem der Service von der Crew waren super. Ich bin schon davor mit Qatar Airways geflogen da war es nicht so gut.

I love the 787 in the JAL configuration. 2 aisle seats per room instead of 3 and it makes the cabin feel less claustrophobic.

Your channel is the best ❤️ I love JAL, the video has shown their service is amazing. What I love most about Japanese cuisine besides sushi is their light and fluffy pancakes, and their green tea. I loved how the flight crew gave you an airplane model and a card.

Favorite parts: Boeing 787-9, the interior/layout of JAL, the views of the sunrise, the mountains and the landing in Narita during flight, the Finnair A350 capture during taxiing on Narita, the crew's attention towards you.
And last but certainly not least, ALL THEM MEALS THAT LOOKS SO GOOD.

Unusual from my perspective to see no boarding at the front of the aircraft but near the engines and at also not the rear ?? No de icing prior to take off...? At 11.23 that's not just the Sun...its the Rising Sun ( I think) I must comment that in Economy you are well fed and watered...something many airlines have cut back on !! Food looks great !! Excellent trip report and flight David. Hope to be flying with them later this year from Melbourne (Australia) to Japan and am really looking forward to it !! I know that from Australia Japan Airlines and Finnair have some pretty good deals in Business Class to Europe if you don't mind the stop overs ! I agree amazing !
The cabin looks really nice for an economy class. Never seen green tea actually green in color. Really good review!!
Ich hatte meinen besten Economy Flug mit Japan Airlines in der 787-9 von Frankfurt nach Tokio. Nicht nur der Sitz mit der guten Beinfreiheit war gut, auch das Essen und vor allem der Service von der Crew waren super. Ich bin schon davor mit Qatar Airways geflogen da war es nicht so gut.
