Carolyn, You deserve an Oscar for best documentary of Slab City. I know you like to eat and pay your bills, but I think this is your passion, and if it makes you happy, I hope you can continue. This is filled with such humanity and it illustrates how everyone deserves dignity in how they live. I love love love the Free Library! When I make it out west, I want to go there and drop off some books!!! Happy Trails!

Slab City is a successful anarchy. It's a study in deregulation and maximum tolerance.
Much of the hard work takes place between your ears.

Garbage is a fact of life. Rich does not equal clean just as poor does not equal dirty. Stereotypical of society to say such things. I think everyone is responsible for themselves until it infringes upon others. If one tosses their trash out in their own yard, fine. But if it blows into others yards it does not automatically remove that responsibility. Unfortunately most people are going to clean their own yards even if it blew from the neighbors. If there are no rules to live in Slab City then chaos ensues. I would be walking with a giant trash bag cleaning up whatever blows my way. With all the signs one should say "Leave It Like You Found It" But if they find it dirty I guess there are a lot of people who close their eyes to it. Some things I choose to not accept. On a different note, I have seen Cindy before does she have a RUclips channel. Thanks for the tour Carolyn. I like to think of my self as a Hippie but I would get into Trouble in Slab City. I would be passing out flyers " KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL' It might be called Slab City but it is still AMERICA!

We loved the interview. Thank you to you and them for doing it. It's really wonderful to hear that there's still somewhere where people can go and live free even if they have eccentricities or r not willing to conform to what society says they have to be. And/or they're not willing to conform to what people that want to make money off of you want you to do and be. Nowadays if you refuse to be cloned or you refused
/cannot afford to be extorted it seems like there's no place for you to be.

OMG, another awesome video! I thrive on diversity, and wish everyone did. At almost 59 years old, I've only been harassed for being a lesbian a few times in my life - and that was in my 20's. I've always been lucky to be surrounded by really accepting family, friends, and people in general. I love meeting all kinds of people, from all kinds of backgrounds, and learning what 'makes them tic'. You want to see me go from O-Bitch in a nano-second? Then don't harass people like Cindy, and you won't have to, lol. Thank you so much, Carolyn, for taking the time to video, edit, and share this!

You better love "diversity" Bike Cycle, because if you don't, I will YELL AT YOU IN ALL CAPS! Hehe. When I get flamed, keep in mind I'm used to it - I'm Native American (we saw, and still see, "tolerance" up close and personal). My best friend is black and his wife is white, and we've all lived in Arizona for over 25 years. Imagine the comments he gets. Imagine what his wife hears - nearly every day. Now imagine what their 6 year old son hears from bullies at school. Tolerance is talked about and *imagined*, until it needs to be put into practice, right out there in the light of day. Then the yelling starts, the SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN yelling starts.Last thing I'll say on this, take it or leave it: *No one* goes through the door, until *everyone* goes through the door.

This video of yours has convinced me it is a must visit! Cindy, Wendy and Jerry were absolutely charming and their friendship gives me hope that our society can learn to accept and embrace everyone, regardless of their differences. I had the thought while watching, that SC is a place where America really IS great again; there is respect for individuals, you don't have to lock your door, neighbors look out for one another and everyone is welcome.
Thank you for such an uplifting and positive view of a fascinating community!

Even though my heart beats with the cares and beauty of MOTHER EARTH, you have a fresh new way of doing a documentary about humanity. I'm hoping to get past my last "prejudice" that I've identified inside myself, and maybe a trip to slab city would help me. I've been working with this issue for at least 4 years intently and many more years beyond that. I work to not be hard on myself about this issue, but it really bothers me that I can't shake it. Anyway, great people, and Cindy...what a sweetheart! And your invitation to her to attend the RTR, very cool. Thanks Carolyn...YOU ROCK!

Interesting interviews. Especially glad to see Jerry open his mind, to a new world. I just binge watched Transparent. On yours and a friends recommendation. Didn't think it would interest me, but it was awesome. So many layers, to the characters. It shows that everyone has a story we shouldn't judge. Cindy is a real life Mort/Maura.

C- yes the layers are what I love about Transparent too!! yes, Cindy is. I left out the part of the interview where she talks about coming out.. OH NO and I left out that she's a vietnam vet.. oh shoot!!!

Way to go, Caroline! I've been glued to your channel since you started (thank's for the intro and everything else you do, Bob) and I usually don't say much even though I may love the places I lurk in (it's a vipassana thing), but you've forced me to break my 'golden silence' to say THANK YOU for taking Slab City journalism (and boondocking vlogs, for that matter) to a new level! I love the way you dig into the back story of the places you encounter and the new "investigative reporting" direction you've brought to into nomad vlogs. You've got the heart and the insight and the heart to do this. Don't stop now, girl! Just keep on keepin' on. -- John (a.k.a. Ananda Vonderbus)

I am fairly new to You Tube viewing. Naturally there is a lot of whining and propaganda from most video postings. But you present the most tolerant, sensitive, insightful content I have seen. I have become a big fan. As an artist I really identify with the reasons people live at Slab City. Creatives are so misunderstood and or ignored. But it is an enlightened existence! 🌼🌸

Having lived in NYC I met every kind of people, you learn to watch body language, and of course after a time you learn where to and where not to go...People who don't know any better would be afraid to go into the area I lived but I knew it, so felt comfortable there. Happy now to be out of the city and moved back to rural life which I prefer. I don't think the slabs hold any fascination for me personally but I know it is home for many. Thanks for the look n see!

You have been all about change on this journey and maybe this is part of it. You really do have a talent with telling a story through video. It's said to do what you love will add passion to your life. I wish you all the best. BTW if you get a thumbs up on a video, does it add to your revenue. I stopped giving them because my computer saves all my thumbs up videos, but if it means revenue for you, I will give a thumbs up to everyone of your videos. They are certainly worth it.

If not for you, I wouldn't even know slab city existed and now it's on my bucket list... I have always felt closest to the outcasts and those who just didn't fit in. I have fallen in love with these people and this place. I have read all the comments, I get it. It's not for everyone and there are area's and people you just need to be careful with and pay attention to. OMG, I am so excited to our little Minnie up and on the road. We get closer everyday. I'm getting giddy with anticipation. The Gypsy in me dances even knowing it is there. Amazing, THANK YOU!!!!

I've watched MANY of your vids- and decided to start from the "beginning." This vid- the best short docu I have watched in a while- even if it wasn't meant to be a documentary. I've been fascinated with Slab City- and what I've seen/read- never quite brought me fully into understanding as you did. Well done- Slab City is on my list of places- whenever I can afford to travel!

LOVE your Slab City Videos. I have to be honest, your first video was the very first I have ever watched on Slab City, and I was so intrigued, I searched for more videos. I'm glad I saw your video first because there are a lot of videos out there that do make Slab City look violent and very frightening. You have shown a kinder, more normal existence in Slab City.

3- while there is danger and crime in SC, I don't think it's the norm.. Like we said in this video ' the 'wow' factor sells, whether it's mainstream media or RUclipsrs! :-0)
      glad you're here. ty!

I’m glad you opened up about the LGBT acceptance issues! No one is really talking about in other RV sites! I live in Oklahoma RED state that is changing but is far behind east and west coasts! Please if you get time interview or address the issue of equality more! Finding a tribe and a safe place is very important
