I already have the entire collection as I have been stitching for over 40 years, but just last week I purchased 60 colors in a tote at a thrift store for 7.50. All DMC
That's a great deal! I have what should be a complete collection (not sure which colors I've used up at this point) and I add thrifted floss whenever the condition and price is right.
One Christmas many, many years ago my mother gave me the entire DMC collection and I was in heaven. Pretty sure I wouldn’t have purchased these you found. The shrink wrap seems weird and the $20 price is pretty high for unknown quality. They might be sitting on these for a while.
I bought a shrink wrapped package of sorted DMC floss at Goodwill for $6. I got home and it smelled so bad. It couldn't be saved. I threw it all away. I am glad it was only $6. I will be more careful from now on.
That's such a shame! I can deal with minor smells, if it's just that vague "old lady house" sort of thing. But I worry if something is wrapped up so tight I can't tell what's going on inside the packaging.
I had a friend who was a smoker who is giving up crossstitch and she gave me thread fabric, etc. another friend had a air purifier because these things smelled so bad put them in a room for a couple of days Fixed the problem smell was gone
I would have taken it to the front and asked them to open it They have more tape! Without being able to open it would be a deal breaker for me. I had the unfortunate experience of buying one that smelled so bad! Never again! Tossed it straight into the garbage… so unopened and $20 would be a No thank you for me!
Well, I've bought thread/floss at a thrift store. But not in containers like that. Usually complete kits that have never been opened. But I'd imagine some vinegar would help. Though, admittedly, considering how much there is, you'd have to do it in small batches so it doesn't become a mess.
I would have bought them in a heartbeat. I buy from eBay all the time. I have been lucky that so far none have been smokey or musty. I just scored 5 full boxes of DMC for 50$. I'm excited for them to arrive 😊
I would not have bought them. At this stage of my stitching life I only need to fill in colors - and DMC can be purchased pretty cheaply - and I have my storage figured out. Even for my daughter, who is a novice stitcher, I still feel she would be better off picking up colors as she goes. I only would have been tempted by the storage boxes - and would have noted the info so I could conduct an internet search of my own.
Honestly, if you consider that each box assuming they are full are roughly 126 bobbins each making the total to be at max $94.50 each (roughly estimate as number of bobbins, how full each bobbin is, and not including the storage container) at $20 a pop it is technically a very good deal.
Might be from the same donation of all the cross stitch patterns from a few days ago….. Makes me sad to think that the former owner might be gone and the family donated everything.
I wouldn't buy at that price without being able to open the boxes. If it came from a smokers house you would never be able to air it out. Plus, for me, it is a lot of money all at once.
No, I certainly wouldn’t have bought them without at least asking for one to be unwrapped so I could examine it. I think they’re very expensive for a charity shop item. Here in the UK nobody would consider them at that price. (I used to volunteer in a charity shop!)
I wouldn’t have gotten them. I got a single container once from a thrift store and they were all cut then bobinated on in 14 inch lengths and had a scent😮

I would NOT HAVE TAKEN A CHANCE. I already have approx all but about 75 of a full set. at 100 dollars total, I could have finished my set.
I would have taken it to the front and asked them to open it

Wow! I would have asked the store clerk to open at least one of the containers in order to check it out.

I absolutely would have opened one to check- and then taken it to an associate to reseal if i decided i didn’t want it…
This particular store is full of warnings not to open packaging, to the point that I don't think they want you to know what you're buying!
@@romantictangle eek i don’t think i’d shop there at all then… a good company would want customers to know exactly the condition of what they sell.
They look like the ones you can buy at Walmart

I had the same thought. Hopefully our mystery stitcher lived a long happy life and stitched all of their favorite things!
No at that price I wouldn’t have purchased them.TFS
Definitely would not get them unless you could give them the smell test.😮
I would of asked to open one and explained why. Cos if they r wow bargain, if not the no I've been burned once b4 hope this helps x
Thrift Store Bags of Floss or Fabric - They Won't Let You Get a Closer Look! #shorts #thrifting

20 a box i would have passed
20 for them all is more fair
I would buy them all

I accidently found 3 container a for 10 bucks
Congratulations!!!
I would have asked them to unseal one so I could see & smell the condition for myself. If it passed muster, I’d have purchased the lot.
Walk away 😂 please 🥺
부럽네요 여긴 파는데가없어요 저렴한가격~
I would have taken it .. not minding the smell , etc .. I am in need of it so much

I haven't come across any that's been cut. I use loop start, so that would be a huge disappointment.
I would have bought them!!!
