I remember Chesterfield getting to the semi final of the FA/League cup (no Google) and Middlesborough equalising very late in the game. Never got to Saltergate on my travels!
That FA Cup run in the 96/97 season was a classic I'll never forget. We beat Bolton and Nottingham Forest en route to the semi-final. Just to clarify one thing: it was Chesterfield who equalised in the last minute with an outstanding header from Jamie Hewitt, who was also Chesterfield born and bred, and later became the physio. His goal made it 3-3 and took us to a replay which we sadly lost 3-0 😢 I was therefore rooting for Chelsea to beat them in the final, which they did, 2-0 😊
Re. 22/23 playoff final, Notts County deserved to go up on the basis of their performance over the season, not based on their performance during the game where they were very lucky to drag the game into extra time and sub on a penalty ringer goalie at the end of extra time....
