Did they not bring out Hooked Rims to counter the problems that the hookless rims of the time had. Seems like a backwards step for the sake of profit to me.
Hookless wheels with a PSI max of 60. I bet they were running them 55+. Factor in increased pressure from the road plus the middle eastern weather, plus aggressive handling, and you get a blow out. One time occurrence doesn't warrant a ban.
I was seeing so much problem with the hookless on different video that I decided to not buy hookless because tolerance is too narrow for road tire. Temperature and impact influence the tire pressure and tolerance can't cover that .. I had Enve on my cervelo and on my new bike I was looking for Enve or Zipp and saw that they had only hookless so I got FFWD instead. I'm under impression that other company are back order because a lot of people dont buy hookless ... It was nearly impossible to get Reserve or DT Swiss that didn't jump in the hookless either.
Nobody needs hookless rims. Ban them!
Nooo, the uci only bans harmless items, like sock heights or darth vader helmets 😆
You're looking at the wrong root cause of the failure. The tire is the problem, not the hookless wheel ;) They are probably using some prototype tires, since they have only the "vittoria" logo. Lots of other teams are using the hookless rims with the right tires and do not have any problem with it.
Good point! Thank you
