dude, I stopped League after ARAM got competitive... I was doing good then I started to get into diamonds and Emerald players, then the fun ended.
If your comp dont have a tank or initiator = pain.
If your comp is full ad or full ap = pain.
Then you are kinda forced to play something meta to have a 'ok team' and not just get obliterated for 20min.
Ppl start to dodge looking for a better comp, some have exclusive ARAM accounts to get better RNG in the champ selection.
Then I started to get flamed by my own teammates. ARAM got competitive then I stopped playing all togheter. Fuck that.

What would piss me off if my teammates would start hopping on the flaming vagon and i have no doubt they did. "It's clearly a jungle diff" afterall when u don't get dragon alone against 4 enemies, all league of losers players unite on blaming the jungle for every missplay they do. People like the OP like to cry about ppl being meta slaves but I don't care if someone's pick is off meta as long as it's not completely troll in the role they are playing. For ex I've played with teemo supports, leblanc supports, sion supports, etc. and while it was janky it was, key word, playable. On the other hand I've had games/drafts where my support locks in Smolder support, sylas support, etc. and lane was an auto loss and they just fed their asses off because they can't do anything and can't walk up without dying to the slightest gust of wind. I'm all for off meta picks... as long as the idea behind them is plausible and you can understand how it could work. I've played with sion mids, I've played with alistar top lanes. I'm fine with people picking off meta if that's what they enjoy but it has to be within reason. Yuumi mid vs anyone that has hands is going to feed uncontrollably. That's pretty much my metric if something is troll vs just a niche off meta pick. How likely is it that they turbo feed and go down 80 cs at 15 minutes? If it's above 50% then it is troll to me and should be bannable.

This is absolutely true, which is why many other games has been trying out variations of the main game mode.
This year, Dead by Daylight did some limited time game modifiers, with a higher emphasis on fun, starting with the Light's Out mode, where every map was pitch black, and you could not see anything outside of maybe 12-16 meters. Then of course, we got the april fools mode, and lately, we had a perk randomizer mode. Moving away from meta builds and all of that, and just casually having fun, while still playing the core game was such a refreshing breeze, and something the game needed for such a long time.
Overwatch 2 has also done some cool limited time modes as well, starting around April Fools with the "Balanced Overwatch" mode, which was anything but. Everything was overpowered, and super fun, and every character was outfitted with giant googley-eyes. Then we got "Mirrorwatch" where certain characters had brand new abilities, which was really fun. And lately we have a community created balance mode. So refreshing and different from the regular gameplay.
League definitely needs to do these limited time modes more. And expanding the limited time modes with new ideas, as well as bringing back the old classics, like Doom Bots, Hexakill and Nemesis Draft. I know the community, especially among the veteran players would love to have a "classic" mode at some point

It's interesting hearing this pov as I originally only played normals for my first 2-3 years of League with a family of gamers I met online, and I had a complete blast with them. Then, one of the older members had a heart attack and died, and I think they all quit League because the memories associated with him and League were too painful to bear. This resulted in me starting ranked which completely shifted the way I interact with League. My sense of enjoyment shifted from just playing the game to being better at the game. I derived pleasure from climbing, and each season I went a little higher resulting in my continual enjoyment of the game. I still remember how amazing it felt when I got Master for the first time and I was in awe of how talented the other players around me were. Yet now, I can casually get GM and barely scrape the bottom of Challenger, but it feels so empty. I used to all chat in a positive way or tease when I only played normals, making a ton of new and fun friendships. Even after a decade, one still holds to this day. We've literally never met (she's a Vietnamese national living in the UK), but occasionally check in on each other every now and then and she's one of my first picks for Clash. I am jungle main, climbed from Silver to Plat. I can safely say Silver was the most fun I ever had in LOL. In silver there is actually a good amount of cooperation, players are willing to listen and I could be the shotcaller when necessary.
Gold and Plat was a mental asylum, typing or pinging was futile. The only way to play was mute all and play extremely selfish, I noticed high elo streamers played this way as well. As a jungle main who focuses on macro and teamplay the game became unplayable.
And it's really not the players fault, it wasn't this bad before. There was a marked decrease in game quality after Riot nerfed pings to the ground. Literally every attempt to ping is now stifled by the ping limit, and typing instructions is impossible with fast paced gameplay. Every other competitive team game has voice chat.
A team game where the team is unable to communicate. That is the problem with League of Legends. The game is quite literally encouraging narcissism and sociopathy by design, ironic considering they pay so much lip service to ending toxic behavior.
It is a form of torture to be strapped together with 4 strangers where you must somehow cooperate to win, yet can only communicate through grunts and clicks.

Yes. I am currently in Gold, losing every game.
I tried to play Gwen/Kayle and wait for late to carry. I can't reach late because the game ends minute 15 as my bot goes 0/20.
I tried to play Irelia mid, works better because I have more control on the early stages, but unless I am last pick, I get tons of counter picks.
I tried to play support... I literally roamed the entire game and got my mid and ADC fed with ganks and good engages. But...my ADC decided to go from 6/1 to 6/9.
I tried to play Zac jungle...works...I can bring a game by myself up to the minute 45 and somehow lose it. I sweat like the ultimate tryharder trying to gank everyone and counter-gank the enemy jungler, and my team instead of ENDING when it is the moment, my mid goes to farm jungle, my adc goes base, while ALL ENEMIES ARE DEAD AND WAITING FOR RESPAWN.
So they catch up and we lose.
At this point I can't. I am a programmer and this game is affecting my mental health and my day performance. I waste hours on stupid games, I gain 15lp per win and lose 35 per defeat.
I can totally understand what you said, in silver people are trying. In silver, if you are gaining a lead, people will use their mind, leave ego aside and listen to you.
In gold, everyone plays for himself, while the enemies are always one for all and all for one.
2 years ago I was plat, and I remember I had multiple Draven/Twitch/Kaisa mains who were running it down mid like Tyler1 used to for simply disagreeing with them or accidentally taking one minion when ganking.

I've played with plenty of off meta supports like sion, teemo, leblanc, etc. and it was weird but it was PLAYABLE. It's fine to play off meta, no one really cares ultimately at the end of the day as long as you are trying your best and your pick isn't objectively inting if your opposing laner has more than 2 braincells. I saw another comment complaining about "meta slaves" and they said they played AP yuumi mid lane... like no shit you are going to get reported playing AP yuumi mid lane. I'm sorry but yes there comes a point where it's no longer "off meta" and is just inting or soft inting or w/e term you want to use. If I locked in blitzcrank ADC or Thresh JG I would expect to be reported because that is griefing. Having to speak directly with that other person naturally activates empathy in the brain. You are forced to see that other player as a person even if you hate them. It makes being inhumanely toxic something you would have to purposely try to be.

      That's a logical fallacy called *Anecdotal* --
You used a personal experience or an isolated example instead of a sound argument or compelling evidence.
It's often much easier for people to believe someone's testimony as opposed to understanding complex data and variation across a continuum. Quantitative scientific measures are almost always more accurate than personal perceptions and experiences, but our inclination is to believe that which is tangible to us, and/or the word of someone we trust over a more 'abstract' statistical reality.
Example: Jason said that that was all cool and everything, but his grandfather smoked, like, 30 cigarettes a day and lived until 97 - so don't believe everything you read about meta analyses of methodologically sound studies showing proven causal relationships.
      And.. *False Cause* --
You presumed that a real or perceived relationship between things means that one is the cause of the other.
Many people confuse correlation (things happening together or in sequence) for causation (that one thing actually causes the other to happen). Sometimes correlation is coincidental, or it may be attributable to a common cause.
Example: Pointing to a fancy chart, Roger shows how temperatures have been rising over the past few centuries, whilst at the same time the numbers of pirates have been decreasing; thus pirates cool the world and global warming is a hoax.

That's just *Special Pleading* -- You moved the goalposts or made up an exception when your claim was shown to be false.
Humans are funny creatures and have a foolish aversion to being wrong. Rather than appreciate the benefits of being able to change one's mind through better understanding, many will invent ways to cling to old beliefs. One of the most common ways that people do this is to post-rationalize a reason why what they thought to be true must remain to be true. It's usually very easy to find a reason to believe something that suits us, and it requires integrity and genuine honesty with oneself to examine one's own beliefs and motivations without falling into the trap of justifying our existing ways of seeing ourselves and the world around us.
Example: Edward Johns claimed to be psychic, but when his 'abilities' were tested under proper scientific conditions, they magically disappeared. Edward explained this saying that one had to have faith in his abilities for them to work.
*Strawman* -- You misrepresented someone's argument to make it easier to attack.
By exaggerating, misrepresenting, or just completely fabricating someone's argument, it's much easier to present your own position as being reasonable, but this kind of dishonesty serves to undermine honest rational debate.
Example: After Will said that we should put more money into health and education, Warren responded by saying that he was surprised that Will hates our country so much that he wants to leave it defenceless by cutting military spending.
And finally to no surprise, *Ad Hominem* -- You attacked your opponent's character or personal traits in an attempt to undermine their argument.
Ad hominem attacks can take the form of overtly attacking somebody, or more subtly casting doubt on their character or personal attributes as a way to discredit their argument. The result of an ad hom attack can be to undermine someone's case without actually having to engage with it.
Example: After Sally presents an eloquent and compelling case for a more equitable taxation system, Sam asks the audience whether we should believe anything from a woman who isn't married, was once arrested, and smells a bit weird.

@@MangaGamifiedwhat’s weird about the comment to me is it starts off saying “the game wasn’t the problem, my life was” then they explain how their life was going poorly and how it led to them not enjoying league which makes sense, it can be hard to enjoy something when everything else around you makes you depressed. However they suddenly apply this logic to everyone in the end with “the problem isn’t the game it’s you” if that last sentence wasn’t included the comment would just be a personal (and imo inspiring) story about how league felt bad to them specifically when their life was bad and felt better when they improved their life. Idk why they flipped their own story onto everyone at the end, maybe they just didn’t account for their own wording

When I created my account I was like the 50k player to sign up/in. I was an early adopter. I loved playing league. I, still, occassionally, play. But I only play ARAM now and even that is getting old. You queue up, wait for what seems like a lifetime till the game starts, usually have 1-2 people who go AFK or you get bots. The game itself feels like it has lost its identity. I feel as though RITO cares little, or not at all, for its players. Between the 50,000 different champs now, the limited maps and/or game play, or RIOT pushing the micro transactions League doesn't even feel like the same game. It's sad on so many levels.

You wanted to play ADC Soraka on top lane, go ahead play it, you wanted to play AP jarvan, go ahead, like everyone just trolled and played whatever was most fun for them. And then few years back I relized its not a fun game mode anymore, everyone plays zed, lux, or whatever overpowered champion they can think of, like I don't remeber the last time I saw some just generaly playing for fun. I really miss thoes day. One more thing My frined list used to be full of online guys, now when i log in I see one guy playing ranked, try harding for a slightly better banner and skin chroma...

I stopped playing LoL a year ago after having played it for an entire decade. But not because I wasn't having fun. I actually was. I've always loved scalling, becoming better at mechanics and more efficient in order to get the long run, that kind of stuff.
The issue was that, after playing the game for 10 years, it's like those 10 years passed in a flash. The reason being: that I have very few memories of those thousands of games. Or more like, I have memories, but not enough or significant enough. Every game was like 30 minutes or so(in average). And the moment you started the next game, you already forgot the last you played.
It was like empty entertainment that didn't improve me in any way other than making me better at the game itself.
League of Legends is the game I've spent the highest number of hours by a huuuge margin, like it's not even close. However, I can think of at least a dozen other games with which I have way more and better memories. And at the end, when I look back, those all seemed like a way better way to spend my time.
(Oh damn, I redacted this like shit. Sorry, I'm about to go to bed.)

I'm not a regular viewer but doesn't Rav do one of these videos every 2 months for the past 3 years? xD
The game isn't particularly well designed for over 5 years and it keeps adding up. It's in a terrible state. RIOT knew this and they did change some things, like removing dodge from the game, but it wasn't enough. Indeed I laugh everytime I remember they removed dodge because it was random but kept crit in the game, then updated the crit "randomness" so it would be fair. If it's fair it isn't random.
RIOT just keeps gluing broken pieces and putting band-aids on their design flaws, which in all fairness could go past unnoticed, except they can't stop with the power creep which increasingly requires mechanics that don't exist in the game to further balance it.
You can't simply give a champion burst, %hp damage, true damage, slow, stun/snare, infinite mana or manaless, low cooldowns, range, move speed burst/dash, shields, lifesteal/regen, team fight initiation, escapes and peel. Meanwhile if you remove 2 or 3 from the above all recent champions have it.
A team game requires a champion's class to be respected, and a champion can't be fairly good at everything to be balanceable and healthy for the game. For a while RIOT tried to end the 1v9 champion mindset, but there is so much damage in the game that almost everyone can delete everyone. It's too fast for new players and most old players alike. It's not even tactical or strategical, the first champion to get caught loses the game for the team, which ironically was the reason videogameDUNKEY left the game and explained why on his "I'm Done With League of Legends" video. This was 8 years ago and the game is far worse than it was at the time.
I firmly believe the game isn't as healthy in player count as RIOT want's us to think, and they know they are losing players and getting hardly no new players. The game has too much everything. Too many mechanics, too many champions, too much grind for new players, ranked is in a terrible state for some years now, ELO was bad for a team game but MMR is also a joke. No new player will have fun being oneshot by hardstuck bronze players with 500k+ mastery on their champ when the new player barely knows what their champion does. Some of the mentioned issues can't be mitigated, but others can.
RIOT won't do a League2 until it is too late. They should have done it like DOTA2 was done, trying to mimic the original but on a DECENT engine. RIOTs client and engine are shit. But non the less it can be improved and I believe RIOT needs to do a full mechanical revamp on their game like it was League2. Remove some mechanics, remove power creep, etc. Of course, for this it would require they stop making champions, 100 champions was ridiculous at the time and it's nearing 200. I have been a player since the BETA I have no personal issue with this, but to keep the game in a healthy state sacrifices have to be made. Having 200 champions is not appealing at all for most new players.
Unfortunately, and in the wise words of Asmongold, "companies only see the money they aren't making and not the money they could be making". So they will drag the games sorry state until there's no one left. I am pretty confident that MOBA's are a product of their time, and just like RTS games were obliterated from mainstream gaming, MOBAs only persist because of their old playerbase.

I'm not much of a competitive player outside of the active match, almost never play ranked, so I'm a big fan of fights over pushing. I often play with friends who are less experienced than I am, so I'll usually end up way ahead of my laner due to matchmaking MMR differences. It was so bad in the beginning that I would just play picks like Leona Mid in an attempt to not stomp the game while my friends were learning.
Now I actively forgo objectives for kills and fights when ahead cause it's simply not fun to push a lane down when I have so much of an advantage. My friends can't really carry on their own just yet, which sucks cause I have lost us a few games over greedy fights, but I would rather keep doing it than putting my sole focus into winning before fun.

There was a video a while ago that asmongold reacted to talking about streamers "ruining gaming" and I definitely think at least to a degree that's a big part of leagues change. The lcs turned league into more of a sport than a game and that overcompetitive attitude became more and more prevalent as egos grew and the disparity in skill levels increased. I think there's too many champs to properly balance with items that try to accomplish this balance while completely overtuning others, death timers are too long, no voice chat and a few other gripes I personally hold have held back leagues evolution. It's a competitive game that doesn't want to be competitive so there's no identity and thus no vision.

For me I came to League from SC2 so I enjoy a mix of fighting AND strategy/choking my opponent out of resources in checkmate-like moves where they don't have much counterplay. Instead of 5 manning down mid with baron and 5v5 duking it out I would rather 4-1 split two lanes and get more value off it. Smart league is really enjoyable and fun for me to play. Basing instead of overstaying and giving away shutdowns, recalling 40sec to drag instead of greeding another wave, etc. That stuff is fun to me.

    1) How to get challenger 101, literally objectives all day.
    2) That if you like the team fights aspect of the game, uncle rito should make a PVP TDM mode on Summoners Rift where you focus more on kills than minions and objectives. That way it'd be more fun and interesting, plus you get rewarded less gold from minions, towers and objectives, but more gold from kills. Whoever has the most kills by 30 minutes wins. Tie results in another 15 minutes. Rito make it happen

That 3 and a half minute summary of that many modern online games are was something i felt deeply related to and that resonated with why i'm not enjoying many popular games. Because it's truly not just league, it's most of them. This seems like eternal live service model just prevented gamedevs from being innovative and trying out new things, which led to games being so sweaty and soulless, lacking any vision trying to make something similar to this or that. Not gonna elaborate more on the matter, "Going Indie" have a great video titled "Why dead games are a good thing".
Now if you'll allow me to get personal. I played league since 2012, quit completely in 2017 and never came back since, would quit way before if it wasn't for chill time with my buddy in game-two a day. The reason back in day being the lack of time and life circumstances. Though when i sorted things out and got my hands on pc, there wasn't any incentive for me to play again. Looking back at it, game's downhill'ing, the cc dominance became awfully worse, most abilities are the same reskinned versions of old ones(only something truly new being Renata ult, Akshan revive time reset), gameplay is the same it was 10 years ago if not more meta-this meta-that heavy, queue times seem to have dropped further, amount of rank resets is exhausting. Game became so utterly focused on punishing and domination that only enjoyable thing left was a sensation of prevail over the opponent. Which became more apparent as players began to get desperate and the smurfs became an inseparable part of the game, partially cause for many players it was their only way to avoid being restrained to constant hyperfocusing and meta-abusing to have fun playing freely as they like, trying crazy builds and strats. And the worst thing is? Riot realizes that. Which is why they're not doing anything about so overt thing ruining the experience for many, which could be easily regarded as violation of EULA(with it's vague wording on some points) to justify and taken actions against. Why they're not doing it? Cause they don't or don't want to care, since they know their dedicated playerbase, as well as know that statistically income received from one smurf exceed that of thousands of players who try and drop the game, the whale rule. They could've banned accs which were resold or make process of creating multiple accs more cumbersome, nowadays with everything being tied by hardwareid they can just limit the number of possible accs linked to the same device to, say, three or five. Yet they do nothing, cause they have no solid understanding of that made the game successful or what they want game to be, nobody of the og rioters who was at roots when they separated from dota1 team cause they wanted to share their own perspective on WoW mod, isn't in the company anymore, without getting into details i'll say most of them left because their goals didn't align with those of the higher ups management, who's seemingly primary intent is on making profit from cosmetics while keeping average playerbase occupied with clutter of things so they won't get off the hook.
Anyway, about the state of popular competitive games. After grinding another month in cs on faceit recently, i felt so exhausted for doing that i supposed to enjoy, and i wondered what keeps me going if i don't really care, is it merely to prove to myself that i'm worthy. Later i thought about how i don't like doing it, how it's pointless outside of ego chase, and i can't express the excitement when i got on Splitgate and had a blast, infinitely boosting myself "Portal" style to then fly through the map on insane speed and shoot rocket launcher into random unsuspecting player outta nowhere. The type of fun i didn't had since days of quake. To simply have great time playing without care for that effect will this triple kill have on the outcome of the match, enjoying the jorney. Without any goal of hyperfocusing to carry, most efficient meta or strategy, which is more of a buzzword of genre terminology and don't get fooled, many regular arena shooters and older games have similar if not more in-game mechanics depth and knowledge soaked in them, but they're just way better designed so that you don't have to ever read wiki for hours to gradually get the hang of it or learn a smoke throws/lineups. I feel like i got so much happier playing games without overly fierce attitude and not chasing imposed self-set goal of getting higher ranks to tease my own pride with intentionally bad gamedesign based on superiority over others to prove that i'm better than average, that i'm not a normie. And the immense pleasure of being able to drop the game at/for any time without feeling obligated or having the sense of "missing out" on something. Since i never cared about stats or status, i had that inner understanding which made me know that it's all meaningless and mostly for the showoff, it's all achievable with good enough starting point and conditions allowing for dedication, investment and practice. So this made me realize that it's better to spend this effort on something actually meaningful, and play games for something they were intended for, to have fun.

I don’t even bother playing the rift. I have a full time job and put my sanity and basic survival ahead of the game. I only aram and the amount of quitters in game is growing. Also all the constant changes make it a job in itself just to keep up and adjust

I agree before I could play 8,10 even 14 games a day now I q up 1 or 2 games and it's just not fun anymore. If I win it's whatever and if I lose I feel like shit and this is coming from someone that has been playing league for many many years and have been pretty high up in the ladder I hit gm 3 times. But like I said it's not fun anymore all my accounts are now decayed haven't even played a game after split 2 started.

I remember playing twisted tree line with my two friends and just always having good time. In that mode we could play who we wanted, still have obj’s, baron esk boss fight with buff reward, and constantly action and fighting cuz it was a 3v3 maybe I’ll come back to the game if they add twisted tree line again
