It's good to see home garage restoration most restorations seems to take place at large units with unlimited supply of tools and massive amounts of cash it just shows it can be done at home on a budget it shows it can be done I'm sure it will look amazing when finished 👊👍
Thanks Steve. For sure it’s a challenge, I can’t every every tool in the book due to space restrictions. But it’s a great feeling when you do it yourself
That multitool scraper thing is genius, thanks for sharing that mate. Far better than wire wheeling for hours. Looks like a brilliant job, she'll be factory fresh by the time you're done, keep going!
Going through the same process at the moment, i am quite jealous of your rear spring hubs - mine are completly rotted away. Thank you for uploading this and showing me the ways of brushing on the epoxy primer... Cheers!
Greetins from Finland, I have same job to do.. I have same year model Fiat 127 than I am to fix.. That underseal remove makes more gray hair, but your video shows that everything is easy if you want it to be.. I am gonna do my 127 project with 1,4 16v supercharget.
Thanks! I was aiming to keep away from using heat due to creating sticky residue, luckily the sunnier days helped warm it enough for it to come off easily without making a mess!
@@steveguest8028 around half way through it currently, haven’t had time to go full bore for a while. That will change in the summer! Not been filming the underside repairs though

Thank you for taking the time to make this. I plan on doing my e30 underside this summer. What underseal do you plan on using after repairs are finished?
I mainly used the oscillating scraper to take the bulk off, then wire wheeled the last few bits. I didn’t go with blasting as it may not look it but the body paint was only months old from when the car came off the road, as i never planned to take the resto this far! So i need to keep it isolated, also I enjoy doing things myself!
Jeez respect to you on this very brave and very skilled. Surely as it looks like a patchwork quilt of previous no doubt dodgy repairs would it not just be better to get a better shell to start with? Good luck 👍
Thanks! Luckily there are only 2 previous patches which are quick to sort. I wish I didn’t even start the whole thing! But it’s my car, so it’ll get what it needs, eventually.. haha!
@@BadE30 ooooh I know that feeling one job leads to another then the domino effect kicks in and that point of no return - go get em you’ll smash this don’t give up 👍
@@becomematrix it shouldn’t have a zinc coating on the underside, only on the hardware which has been removed and is all getting zinc plated itself. Everything got primered within a day or too of removal so no way of corrosion getting onto it!
First of all, great job and thanks for the video. Second of all, im thinking of building a roll over jig. How did u mount in in the rear kf thr ca sisnce one off the holes lands in the schasis rail? Thanks and good luck
Fantastic stuff mate. I'm going to try and attempt the same thing with my MK2 Scirocco. Just wondering what you'll be applying over the epoxy primer? Curious to know what you'll be using
@@michealoconnor4233 would highly recommend doing it, other good reasons are for getting into hard to reach areas and really cramming it into the seams!
Great work but why didn’t you get it acid dipped. No know it’s a bit expensive but the labour you would have saved. I’ve just brought a E24 635csi which need work but I don’t think I could go as far as your going. I wish you all the luck my friend 😊
The body paint work may look grubby, but it was literally done just before i took it off the road. Very backwards i know, didn’t mean to take it off the road! So i want to keep the upper bits as is
Very helpful video thanks, please tell me, are all e30s meant to have front frame rails (chassis legs) that slightly bow outwards at the ends, or are they meant to be dead straight.
@@BadE30 Thats nice to hear thanks for letting us know, did you use 4k settings or the 1080p what software are you using for post production? Thanks ones again pal great work must have been big pain to go through all that removal and rust fixing
Unfortunately i did not film this process as it was all by eye and no method about it. Kind of just fell into place with what i had spare. It’s a simple enough design of equilateral triangle structure with a 1m high fulcrum! The rest was made to fit
This is just to get it protected during my underside resto with all the rust repairs i am doing. Once completed it’ll get another coat of the epoxy primer, seal sealer and underseal!

Looking good, massive amount of work there, and looking good, what are your long term plans? doing the same on mine, check out the Chanel 330 fam, was the multi tool better than a heat gun/scraper etc, Iv not posted much on mine as a long term just a few repairs, keep up the good work 💪🏼🇬🇧
Thanks man! I prefered the multi tool process as it is much cleaner than with a heat gun as the underseal just peels off rather than melts off. The whole job went very well, I recommend to do it in the summer as the underseal is much softer, I learnt this right at the end of the task..

Brilliant. I’m about to make a start to my e46 330i, I’m glad I saw the multi tool idea, genius!

I'm doing this now and it's so painful!! Great video. Glad I'm not the only one to have to go through this.
A very pleasing task once completed, keep at it!
Solid effort bro! I did the same with my track car e30! So much weight saved!

Need to do this on my e46 in the future! Nice video
It’s a huge task, but will be worth it in the wnd
Good job. Good option is to use epoxy primer for maritime. It has resistance against Salt and impacts
Glad I used it then! Once all underside work is completed, i plan to go over again with the primer before seam sealer and undercoat
Nicely done!

Thank you for taking the time to make this. I plan on doing my e30 underside this summer. What underseal do you plan on using after repairs are finished?

thanks, it is an epoxy primer! Filler will not have the rust preventative qualities compared to the epoxy

Which seamsealer / undercoat will you use to seal it up?
This may change but the current plan is UPOL grey stripe seam sealer, a spray coating of CE Chem underseal and finally the colour coat
heating it up with a blow torch first or hot air gun it scrapes of a lot easier
