Super Moto KTM? Really, at nearly 200kg and with panniers? KTM 890 SM T stuck in 2nd gear...

First off all, get the optional exhaust from Remus. Sounds great.
I've now seen 3 youtubers complain about the brakes, whilst all the others praise the brakes because they are really good.
I replaced my 2022 S1000RR for a new SMT this year.
On the tight, twisty and more often than not bumpy roads in norway the SMT is always going to be faster, more comfortable and uses damn near half the amount of fuel.
Adjust the suspension on the SMT to the sport settings + add a little more preload to the rear than suggested and you have a bike with 100nm of torque from zero to red line and insane road handling.
So many people commenting without driving it.
Conclusion: brakes are great, suspesion is excellent, engine pulls all the time in any gear, it has cruise control, 6 axis IMU with cornering everything, can carry a passenger in comfort, uses small amounts of fuel (0,4l per 10km), can carry luggage, is comfortable, faster on the road than pretty much any other bike I've ridden (from aprilia factory to s1000rr and so on).
It is only expencive if you look purely at HP to cost. Otherwise it is unbeatable

As a KTM 690 SM owner this 890 Adv parts bin bike makes zero sense to me...

The 690sm works so well because it has a punchy single cylinder engine and the bike is so light. The 890 also works in its own fashion. However, I agree it’s not as good as it could have been. The needed to drop 20 lbs and stiffen up the suspension and as some decent quality brakes. Maybe next year you will see an R version

Probably why they're dropping it, apparently

You’ve nailed it! That’s exactly what this bike is - once you look past the hype. And they left the really good Duke R parts off! KTM has made a fortune selling Adventure bikes to people who don’t go off road on them (not twice anyway) so they may as well sell SMTs that aren’t supermotos and aren’t particularly good tourers. 😂

Not brembo brakes? I’ll assume these are the budget bybre calibres used on much more budget bikes, and stamped Ktm. Sorry ktm, not at this price point. 990smt still reigns supreme

I’d have to test ride one back to back with new BMWR900GS. My little brother has a 6 year old KTM 1190 which he rides all over Europe. His partner has a KTM 890 so there’s a history of this brand in the family. This bike may suit the more laidback inner veteran who still needs an edge on his daily ride bike. Harley Sportster S?

They should have used the 890 duke motor but I guess they wanted a motor more capable of high mileage. My brother has the 890 adventure and the motor is still very aggressive in nature and has an angry streak

Despite the name, I think KTM clearly intended it to be a sports tourer of the tallrounder variety. How would it compare to a f900xr or Yamaha tracer 9 on a kart track? I don't think anyone cares, actually. But I am curious if this is more fun on a twisty road than those bike and how much it sacrifices to be more fun compared to those bikes.

My decade old 990 SMT has more power, more torque, less weight, and is a real V-Twin instead of this Austrian priced Chinese motorcycle. Talk about going backwards, KTM. Where's that 1290 SMR?

I have a 990 SMT and agree, the 890 SMT just feels like a marketing ploy, as opposed to the 990 SMT which is a great bike.

Agreed! I had a 06’ 950 SM for a while and it was an amazing bike, carb’d with cable throttle and just so wheelie happy & very very reliable with the rotax 942cc engine, with that being said I feel like older Ktm models are the best and I would never buy anything from them that’s new as they are Chinese copies
