Well done sir. Thumbs up. Perhaps your best content ever. Even though the V-STROM 1050 is a bit bland compared to the KTM; its price, reliability and comfort get my vote.

I’m going from a 2nd gen Tracer 900GT, I’ve looked at all these bikes here and gone for a Ducati Supersport 950S, more sport than touring but with panniers, tank bag and proper comfort I’m planning on touring on it. I’m UK based, delivery next week 😊, love the channel by the way.

G'day Mat. really good to see you outdoors mate, and I sincerely hope that you are well and truly on the road to a better level of health. Really appreciate your forthright opinions regarding motorcycles and their brand companies. Wish you well, and hope to see you riding again soon. Cheers from Australia brother.

Having recently returned to riding and having the sport side well and truly taken care of in the form of my CBR400RR I'm considering the V100 for longer rides. Can't argue with your SMT choice though. Take care Matt and looking fwd to your next Vlog.

I'd love the Ducati its the £1k big service which puts me off, my mate got the NT1100 DCT currently touring in Riva De Garda from Oldham. Hes very impressed with it. More importantly, the NT price of £13k is the decider

The new Ducatis go 30,000 miles between valve checks. Anyone can do the annual service, no need to go to the dealer if that is out of your budget. Take another look at the Italian.....

Like others who have commented here.. I do hope that you are recovering well.
I recently rode my GS from Ontario to Victoria on Canada's west coast. Over the few days on the road I noticed more Vstroms than any other. Yes a few other boxer BMW's RT / GS but almost no Harley's.
The Vstrom definitely errs more towards touring than sport but for Canada / Australia / SA distances they would appear to be the tool for the job. The V-twin in both small and large capacities has been around for years but has legendary reliability. Pretty important when the next community is a tank-full away.
Mat, for sport touring over shorter distances a waterproof bag... a couple of bungee cords.. and your MT-09 might work just fine!
Your recent reviews convinced me to hang onto mine!

Thanks for another interesting and very thorough review. I guess the closest Ducati match to the KTM would have to be the now discontinued Hyperstrada, which added a screen, luggage and better ergonomics to the Hypermotard. The fact that Ducati ceased production in 2016 might suggest that the market for a sport-touring supermoto style machine just isn't there?

That statement you said about being close to the end is obviously concerning I hope you are recovering and the outlook is good. My dad battled cancer for 4 years the last 3 being classed as terminal. The last 6 months for him were just pain and being an ex soldier trying to continue and just another challenge I wish he had gone sooner and hadnt had to watch him being bedridden in pain in hospital. Take care mate

Great video with lots of references. Although i dont think its fair to compare this 890smt to pure tourers. It is a supermoto with tourer capabilities, not a tourer. Comparing this bike to pure tourers doesnt make much sense to me. It is the same as comparing it to an adventure bike and say it doesnt do such a good job offroad. It wasnt meant to be the best in a specific style. Its the combination of the specs on this bike that are unique, its purpose its to have a little of different worlds. People who go for this bike are interested in those combinations of specs, to be easy flickering at the same time it has 105hp, to do great on twisties at the same time it can go offroad, to be a fun weekend ride at the same time it can go touring, all this with its lightweight feeling compared to many of the heavy bikes referred on this video. I think we could do the other way around, mention the advantages of this unique bike and ask what other bikes can do the same

I would take the 890 SMT if (MAJOR IF) KTM's reliability wasn't such shit. Too bad, because I always like the look and feel of their bikes.
For my money, or even if it wasn't my money, the winner can't be any other bike than the Yamaha.
