@@trollmcclure1884 This version is a remake done by Takeshi Kitano. The original was done by Shintaro Katsu. Shintaro Katsu was born in a Kabuki-Theater family. They learn traditional Japanese dance from early age and thus know how to use dantien, which is the foundation of all martial arts as you might know. Though Takeshi Kitano is very talented, he started as a comedian. I think his talent lies more in directing a movie or art than acting a traditional samurai battle scene. (Just my personal opinion). @@jerryhampton5755 you should do some research not on European or Western Martial Arts and focus on close quarters combat with wakizashis and katanas. The revers grip is a grip used for quick small cuts when you don’t have room to perform actual overhead cuts. It’s not incorrect. Just different. And there IS NO right or wrong way in fights, whatever works works. Thats how wars are won.
@@suddenlydecent8686 um... yeah. if we're talking about draw cuts only. after drawing your sword you should switch to a front facing grip. higher speed, better leverage, more reach, and better edge alignment are all possible with a forward facing grip. you're right in that fights are determined by whatever works in the moment, but some things work far more often. if i'm in a fight and i punch directly away from my opponent, but somehow end up winning, i didn't suddenly make the right move. my move was still wrong, it just miraculously worked somehow. choosing to use moves that work 80% of the time, when you have 90% moves available, is wrong. plain and simple.
ppl hated on this movie, because they want to compare Takeshi Kitano with Shintaro Katsu, and also brought up the use of CGI, but i really liked the movie. I watched it like 10 times
The sword fights are perfectly choreographed. Zatoichi doesn't hold or uses his sword in the standard manner the other swordsmen hold and use their swords in battle. That makes the sword battles more interesting. The Japanese culture is fascinating. From an American.

You get cut you die, which is realistic. This concept is in a lot of Chambara flicks. Nothing is too flashy, but it's beautiful and elegant.

座頭市の居合はアニメとかで見るような抜くと相手が切れてる、じゃなくて本来の居合だかの初撃から抜く前の心構えとか抜く瞬間から勝負、みたいな兵法としてのそれが見えるねぇ…子供の時はアクションしかみてなかったけどきちんと見直したいな

特に殺陣や決闘シーンがあるものはアウトレイジや座頭市みたいに見応えがある。
