This is such an important topic. I have had lipid tests for years that never tested for this until I went to a new functional doctor who did. Mine is pretty high even though I am ideal weight and not diabetic. I am 61 years old and many of my friends are around the same age and their doctors never test for LP(a). Most of them trust their doctors so much that they won't listen to me urging them to get it tested. I take niacin mostly for this very reason but have not been tested again since taking niacin.

My Lp(a) is 380 nmol/L also. I had a NT Pro BnP test done and it came back at 185, normal is under 125. I’m going to get a CT angiogram done to look at my heart and see what is going on.
Not always 😢. My blood pressure is 115/70, my triglycerides are 69, I’m a group fitness instructor and my LPa is 193😳. I’m a functional medicine trained nutritionalist. A1c is 4.9 and 5.0🤷🏻♀️. I feel statins have raised my LPa. I’ve had 3 MIs, no damage it my heart. Trophins rise and fall within 18 hours. 7 blockages in my heart 😢….suggestions??
Hi Robin. I have high LPa at 220nmol/L or 92 mg/dl and have been really diving deep into this subject. The reason I have found for the people who have high LPa and reduced risk is due to having no other metabolic issues. For example high blood pressure, high HbA1c. High CRP, high fasting insulin levels. It’s also good to get a apoA and apoB test done. Hope this helps.
This is something I've wondered for a long time: when you inherit LP(a) from a parent, does that make you more likely to develop their specific LP(a) - related condition? For example, I inherited high Lp(a) from my mother. Here value is over 300. She's in her late 70's & she has a calcium score of 2. However, she does have moderate calcific aortic valve stenosis. I wonder if I am more likely to develop this as well as apposed to a heart attack or stroke. Any thoughts?
I have really high Lp(a), 380 nmol/L, but my a1C is 5.0 and my fasting glucose is 70 and my blood pressure is 102/68. I don’t smoke and rarely drink. Should I worry?
Get an ApoB test if possible...ApoB -100. LDL's and lp(a) alone don't mean that you're in horrible shape, it's particle numbers that will wreck you, your liver has a finite clearance rate. Get your ApoB #'s down and the lp(a) won't matter nearly so much...make sure you have enough serum Vit D levels and take K2 to help get any calcium into your bones and keep it out of your arteries...and we are talking K2 mk7 form here. Mk4 has a half life of 4 hrs, mk7 is 3.5 days.
@@obtuseangler768 my ApoB as of April was 94 and my particle number was 1259, down from over 1800 😬. LDL small is 173, so still a little high. I’ve been plantbased for a year now, but I do eat fish twice weekly. Before I still ate mostly organic plant foods but I had raw milk daily and grass fed beef almost daily. What one would consider a healthy diet, but it apparently wasn’t for me. My numbers have dramatically reduced but they are still high.
They say lpa is genetic but my mother & father have no heart conditions. No one in my family either except for my great grandmother on my fathers side but she’s in her 90’s. So I’m not understanding why mines is high. I’m 25 and just found out mine is 154 so I’ve been put on baby aspirin for 3 months to see if it goes down.
sounds like if you follow your parents' and grandmother's lifestyle you will have a long life. i ran a first test and run 239 LPa -my family on my fathers side is loaded with issues . Curious to see if you get tested again how the baby aspirin works for you.

My Lp(a) is extremely high (380 nmol) - scary, I wish it went down

Would supplementing with Alpha Lipoic Acid help in lowering LPa? It’s suppose to help in controlling blood sugar & lower blood pressure.

Before we so all that ,how about a CAC calcium score
Good vid, but the noise rattling in the background is annoying and a nuisance.
What about Niacin dosing?! 500mg -2g per day seems to lower Lp a too, correct?
I still don't get the hazards ratio. Some have high LPa and no risk. Why?
People who have high lpa can have no risk? I don’t understand either

It’s a great question. I don’t think there is a lot of evidence on that. But I suspect it is true.

Take metformin.
