I have FH. Cholesterol over 350 since childhood, up to 525 (total) as adult. Two confirmed genetic defects. If cholesterol LDL were the biggest issue with heart disease I would be dead and I am 59. What did almost kill me was statins. I’ve been in three clinical trials for PCSK9 inhibitors, including Repatha. I’ve even been on LDL Apheresis.

I have a cardiologist who switched me to pravastatin and ezetimibe (Zetia) from atorvastatin (Lipitor). He explained that the pravastatin worked on a different enzyme system than Crestor or Lipitor. No more muscle pain. Pravastatin is hydrophilic.
My cardiologist told me to reduce glycemic load by reducing intake of high glycemic carbs. He advised Berberine and Kyolic (aged garlic). He recommended Omega-3. I take metformin and allopurinol.
He advised cardiovascular and resistance exercise.
My LDL is 70. My age is 73. I lost 35 pounds. My CAC score was around 780 four years ago. A1c is 6.1.
    Particle studies improved.
He says that I could celebrate after four years. "All that calcium is in there, but no ischemia."
If you get ischemia, you are headed to the catheter lab. Hopefully, I have stopped the inflammation.
My internist simply says, "Cut carbs." That is shorthand.
I'm off to the gym. All of my physician friends say I look really great.

      1. Some statins increase blood glucose in a small minority of patients. So your general statement is wrong.
      2. This potential side effect is well known and has been researched. The findings show that even in those cases the continued use of statins outweighed the negative effects from the raised glucose and potential type 2 diabetes in high risk individuals.
Summary: Inflammation is an incredibly important factor that may not receive the attention it deserves although it has been well established. However, lipids are also a key factor. It is a fact that there is no heart disease without elevated ApoB. Statins lower ApoB. Much of the “LDL doesn’t matter” argument is misleading. LDL is not a great marker because it measures the volume of “bad” cholesterol. However, it turns out that the number of “bad” cholesterol particles is the more relevant measurement. This is measured by ApoB. The causality is clear since - as I stated above - there is no heart disease without elevated ApoB. So lipids matter greatly and statins lower ApoB. If you are one of the few people who experience side effects you should consider other ways to lower your ApoB - pharmacological, nutritional, lifestyle- but not pretend that lipids don’t matter. And definitely make sure to pay attention to your metabolic health to keep inflammation in check.

Why would you eat saturated fats?? It gets into your tissue and causes diabetes through insulin sensitivity, even if the direct effect on LDL would be less. Eat plant foods for 1 month with healthy whole foods and have your blood tests done, I bet you will feel much better and have drastic improvement in your numbers. I have seen carnivores drup their LDL from over 150mg/dl to 80 - 90 in just 4 weeks of plant foods, and vegans can often achieve numbers a low as 50mg/dl which makes the practically bulletproof for athrescelerosis progression.

He also had a perfect A1C. But then you tested his insulin levels during that process and it was out of whack. How does one test their insulin levels like this? Second, how does one accomplish getting their insulin levels down within the correct ranges? I have been Whole Food Plant Based for a while and had problems with my blood sugar. I have just switched to almost two weeks of low carb higher protein diet and my FBS are down within the 88 mg/dl to 120 range. Thanks for your videos and any response.

Make sure it’s grass fed, keep your carbs below 50 to begin with then keep them below 20. Make sure your eat 6 to 8 ounces of meat and plenty of good fats. You’ll eliminate that type 2 in no time.

I switched to whole food plant-based diet 7 years ago, at age 70 from a meat-based diet, lost 40 lbs 6' 0" from 215 to 176 lbs for 7 years now, lost about half my ED, and cholesterol fell from 270 to 147. Age 77 no meds of any kind. My protein levels went from 10 percent on the meat diet up to 50 percent, a perfect protein score on the plant-only diet. No animal foods at all and practically no free oils at all. The reason protein can rise like this is the body on a meat diet gets too much protein and not enough good quality carbs, so it splits the excess protein from the meat up into carbs and nitrogen, so protein levels drop dramatically, and your 20 dollar steak is turned into 20 cents worth of pasta because the brain craves carbs, not protein. Eating meat is mostly just throwing your money away. On the plant diet, eating whole food (healthy) carbs, the brain is well-satisfied and leaves the blood protein much higher, in my case 5 times higher. Workout recovery is therefore faster, almost all athletes who go whole food plant-based report this effect. I climb 20 flights of stairs 2 steps at a time, almost daily, legs are like iron. My doc is totally onboard. It's not for anyone, most people won't, or think they can't, do it but it just takes work and persistence, like anything good, after which the results are fantastic!

and my 'carb-craving' brain is functioning perfectly optimally on my endogenous ketones thank you :) (and my bodies extremely small production of glucose)
I'm glad it works for you, but I'm off to go and eat a 20 dollar steak (or should I say some very expensive pasta)

One thing that I add to my health and wellness is earthing/grounding. It does change pain levels (inflammation) in body. I have Lyme and it is a miracle. Just put your feet on ground or rock or cement for 30/40 minutes and see how you feel. Humans need too ditch the shoes a bit and take a walk. So many ways to change the blood viscosity. Blood pressure drops and feel relaxed and energized. At 81 I need all the help I can get. Especially because right carotid shows some blockage..but I’m working on it. Weight about 115 lbs 5’4”. Loss of much muscle mass after Covid vaccine. As well as loss of feeling in feet and legs 2/3 days after vaccine. But after 2 years it is beginning to get better. Medical Dr. check for blood clots. Another nuclear test coming up soon. Diet has always been organic/grass fed etc.
Yoga/biking to compensate long days at office desk. All natural child birth No drugs, breast fed children. Keep living like animals on our earth. They know how to survive…😊👍🏻💖I’ll still learning everyday and happy hoping to live another 20 years.👍🏻

My cardiologist told and showed me that that enzyme/amino acid or whatever it is is sticking out a little too much in my arteries, and I would like to shrink it down or just eliminate it. Dr. Brewer, please suffer me for a moment. Inflammation is the bodies natural immunity response/defence to an injury or foreign attack from pathogens etc. or in reality something disrupting the homeostatic balance of the body, basically, correct? It's also true that if the immune response is over or underactive a secondary condition can occur from that. If so, then ALL Autoimmune dysfunctions or diseases are a result of an out of control or over/under reacting immune system.
The NK and memory T cells are getting false information from the immune response mechanism or the cells themselves are acting like a broken record. Thus the information to the worker cells needs rebooting or resetting, kind of like a computer and it needs to be corrected at that genesis or the vortex of the initiating trigger be it at the cell level or some other RNA/DNA factor I'm not familiar with.
This I believe is where the focus of all disfunction needs our full attention. Immunomodulation I feel is the key to a healthy body and mind and psyche which can partially be achieved by what we eat, drink or breath. Unfortunately much of what we take in is out of our control.
But Immunology is just now making a comeback in Naturopathic and Medical field.:
