    @KefkeWren 2 года назад +401

    Honestly, needing to reassemble the map, and then use the spyglass to reveal which squares on it are the clues to the combination lock, is just such a really cool mechanic to the puzzle.

    • @Gigaheart
      @Gigaheart 2 года назад +1

      I think I would have preferred a jig saw assembly of the map, rather than a slider. Slider puzzles are not fun.

    • @Eagleeye098
      @Eagleeye098 2 года назад +8

      Much like a rubics cube, there is a formula to solving slider puzzles. Once you understand it they are quite simple to solve, I used to take a slider puzzle to school back in the day and challenge people that no matter how they mixed it up I could solve it in under a minute. It was a basic 9x9 but the actual size is irrelevant. It just takes longer due to physical size.

    • @KefkeWren
      @KefkeWren 2 года назад +2

      @@Gigaheart I'm not much of a fan of them myself, but in this case I think that the way it was used makes it far more interesting than it would otherwise have been.

    • @Gigaheart
      @Gigaheart 2 года назад +1

      @@KefkeWren Could have done the same with grid lined jig saw pieces, IMO. It didn't have to be a slider. I wonder how long it took Chris to solve that slider.

    • @soofbuilds6767
      @soofbuilds6767 Год назад +6

      @@Gigaheart TBH I was unsure about the slide puzzle myself. I thought about a jig saw puzzle or something similar, but I went with this method to prevent having too many loose items.

    Amazing puzzle - I've watched many of these solves on this channel, and the fact this is truly, fully mechanical and not a "circuit board in a wooden box" is just amazing. So many people just shortcut with sensors and solenoids but to see real mechanical puzzles is just awesome. Love the "safe" dial mechanic.

      Copyright would cover the presentation and potentially sequencing/narrative of the box. None of the individual elements within it are likely protectable, unless he’s invented entirely new mechanisms (in which case they may or may not merit individual patent consideration, if they’re sufficiently non-obvious).

    This puzzle was spectacular, so well crafted, incorporated such a variety of puzzles into one. My hats off to Garrett, deffinitly do not underestimate the talent you have at puzzle making. • @lukearts2954
      @lukearts2954 2 года назад +6

      I agree. If this is a first work, then it's one heck of a calling card. He can easily ask $50k for one-of commissioned boxes like that. Of course, he'd have to come up with a new story, perhaps variations on the mechanisms and sequence, looks etc. That's exactly why those unique puzzles cost so much: it takes the better part of a year to make it from thought to product. If "Garrett" reads this: strike the iron when it's hot. You got plugged here, which means that most of the potential initial clients probably will see it in the next couple of weeks. Once you've done a handful of boxes, people will come knocking for more. Time to quit the day job and make that passion into your main thing!

    • @soofbuilds6767
      @soofbuilds6767 2 года назад +11

      Thanks! This did take a little over a year to create from concept to full build. However, I worked slow and took a few months off not working on it at all. The goal was to create a more escape room style box vs puzzle box. After seeing all the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I have already begun concepts for a new story / build. Hopefully I can create something that is equally enjoyed. I do want to give a lot of credit to Chris for showcasing it. His production value is amazing.

    A PERISCOPE is an apparatus consisting of a tube attached to a set of mirrors or prisms, by which an observer (typically in a submerged submarine or behind a high obstacle) can see things that are otherwise out of sight.
    I think what you have is a spyglass, or more commonly referred to as a telescope (also nicknamed the "bring-em-closer"). It is an object used by mariners, or pirates, to magnify the view.

    I rediscovered your channel after a few years and it’s so cool to see you’re still doing puzzles. Always mad relaxing and interesting to watch 🔥🔥

    It is truly awesome that people send you this stuff. I would be totally blown away if just once I got something like that amongst the final reminders.

    I love the flavor of the "navigate the ship and drop the anchor" part.

    How the mechanics and the aesthetics matched the narrative, the variety of puzzle types involved and satisfying reveals and price at the end makes it one of the best ever I've seen. Amazing to see a new puzzle maker hit the nail on the head with the first attempt! Garrett Coufal is the treasure that Chris uncovered here!
