Ally please be careful about signing your music to others. It's a slower process if you keep full control of your creativity. My favourite band Larkin Poe is a great model of keeping your sound. Please consider playing at Vancouver Folk Music Festival 2023. 🇨🇦Canada. Collaboration is a great way to expand your audience.

But i have to say, she's my favorite and helped boost my appreciation for them by allowing us to actually watch her up close. Old comment, but rewatching these since I bought a practice chanter and seeing if Ally has some pointers in these videos. I agree that 'Forbidden Songs on Forbidden Pipes' SHOULD have been actual bagpipes. Mel Gibson dropped the ball with not having that, but I guess most of the budget was spent trying to convince us William Wallace wasn't a knight and didn't wear a kilt or paint himself blue 😂. Seriously though, I'm glad you guys do this stuff and do the culture stuff. It's great to listen to on my walk to work and then when I'm just wanting to learn and laugh along

It is not. (There are all kinds of things the piper can do to adjust his pipes to play easily and sweetly, and it would take a Matt Willis piping video to show them all.) Go at it systematically, taking one or two gracenotes and doublings at a time, step by step, and the next step. Often using this tune or that as an exercise at playing this figure/gracenote or that. That's how the College of Piping tutorial books do it.
I really like your performances, it brings out new life for this fantasic instrument. Since you collaborate with violin and so, what about collaborating with Havasi ? I believe this would open up new worlds in music.
Long songs can be good, that allows for switching time signatures, instruments, ...everything? If you can finnd the time, try listening to two live songs from the Finnish band called Nightwish. 1 Ghost Live Score live in Wacken. There is a brief pause towards the middle of the song, but it goes on spectacularly after a minute. Their lead singer Floor Jansen has great voice control. 2 The Greatest Show on Earth live in London. Here a piper plays a different pipe, but I do not want to make a spoiler. 1:03:35 1:03:35 After the band has finished playing, background music appears, do not stop there, rather continue listening until Richard Dawkins quites some lines written by Darwin. I hope you enjoy them. I'm a piper as well, though still struggling to improve and recover my throws on d and Taorluaths after the Covid lockdown wouldn't allow playing the pipes so as to not disturb my neighbours. Some practice with the practiced chanter was possible, burg not with the full instrument. As a result of this I'm slowly recovering my stamina in order to play comfortably. If music wasn’t your job what would be doing between shifts? Making music? I have a mate whose a writer. Before he became a professional he carried a notebook around to write down all his snippets of inspiration. Now that he’s a published writer he still carries that notebook around, the only thing thats changed is he’s getting paid. So its not like his life is being consumed by his work its more like he’s turned his life into his work.
