Fun fact: the music was actually made by the same composer from the show and the script was also written by one of the writers of the show, the same one that wrote the original special in fact, which is something none of the previous games had so i guess that helps explain why it feels so much more faithful.
One of the songs from the game made it into the show actually!
@@skapokonroll Wow, that's good to know.
@@skapokonroll Do you know which song it was?
@@borttheattorney6012 Speed Sneakers, which also appears in the episode Who Framed Jimmy Neutron when the trio gets chased by a bear
@@skapokonroll its the Benny hill theme one right?
After this episode I like how the Twonkies became a background gag in the show, showing up in random places but never being acknowledged by anyone. Pretty fun to see if you could spot any.
I always saw the one a kid has stashed in his locker in ‘Lady sings the news’. And the one by a lake in N-Men.
I always wonder if they were gonna be a sequel to it.
@pippo17173 maybe, season 4 was infamously throughly planned out
@@austinhinton3944 And the one that appeared during the “I have the ring” song.
I always loved the one that popped up during the Benny Hill gag in Who Framed Jimmy Neutron.
Okay, in defense of the Attack of the Twonkies cliffhanger, remember that the Twonkie that Sheen shrinks with his song isn't available for you to capture after the cutscene is over. I always assumed that was the one this cutscene was referring to.
Oh that's where the land scapers put that Checkov's cliffhanger
Dude I have to say, you’ve gone from a creator I would watch when I stumbled upon them occasionally to my most anticipated upload. You make what I can only describe as comfy content, like a friend telling you about a game they used to play or a discussion about different games you enjoy. No loud noises or crazy edits, just well researched, scripted and delivered videos and they’re always a joy to watch. I’ve gone through your entire backlog over the last few months and it’s great to see how much you’ve developed as a creator. I actually use your videos a lot to go to sleep, I’ve struggled with insomnia for a few years and always find them really relaxing. Keep up the amazing work and I wish nothing but the best for you going forward!
Agreed! I'm really glad he pivoted away from the "ragey", "angry" critic persona into something more comfy and constructive!
It really evokes those parasocial feelings, but like in a good way. His videos remind me of being younger and hanging out at a friend's house talking about games we played. Great stuff.
i agree so much! its so confortable to accept and delve into the nostalgic feeling of childhood remembrance!
You nailed it, I love his optimistic approach to things :)
Same here
It’s kind of neat how the Jimmy neutron retrospective went across through this whole year like it did .
Even though I grew up with Dexter’s Lab first, I preferred Jimmy Neutron because I thought Jimmy Neutron was more entertaining. Of course the best parts of Dexter was usually the other segments[Justice Friends, TV Puppet Pals, Dial M for Monkey, and the few Koosalagoopagoop episodes]
Antdude did his SpongeBob retrospective better, not that this was bad.
I love that Nitro Rad became the Jimmy Neutron guy, and AntDude became the Sponge Bob guy
The parallels are uncanny
Jimmy vs The Gremlins definitely seems like a pretty solid idea.
Nathaniel Foga? Aren’t you the guy that game Caddicarus a copy of George of the Jungle on PS2? Huh, didn’t expect to run into someone like this.
@@douglasthequilava thanks for noticing.
@@BugsyFoga please tell me ya don’t plan on sending a copy of that game to NitroRad ever.
@@douglasthequilava lool
@@douglasthequilava Now I hope he does do that.
In regards to Cindy's design, the simplest explanation would be that, instead of making entirely new models for the game, they just reused the ones from the movie game and upscaled them. Basically, they didn't have the time or budget to make a new model for Cindy and went with what they already had.
They did for Libby though.
Even in the Nicktoons unite games they still used her movie design until maybe Globs of Doom
Cindy's old movie design was in multiple games, some with higher quality models, lower quality models, or just sprite work. I think it's just a matter of outdated design documents the developers receive during preproduction.
The character models for the movie game and AotT have very different styles and poly counts. The eyebrows in AotT are modeled, while it looks like they're a flat texture in the movie game. There's also the fact the AotT models have rigs for eye and mouth movements, whereas the movie game models were static.
@@SaltedroastedcaramelTbf I do like Cindy's twin tails I guess it just reminds me another character who had the same hairdo. Or I was just love the Jimmy neutron movie so much that I'm use to it.
I would love to peek behind the curtain to know the behind the scenes
2:14 EHH
And I always liked how after the special aired, Twonkies would appear in the background of future episodes, often in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. A great detail that didn’t go unnoticed as a youngin’.
Seeing "Twonkies" in the title filled me with so much nostalgia. My PS2 day memories are flooding back. This was an absolute masterpiece.
Glad to see more of Nitro Rad's Jimmy Neutron videos. Feels like Christmas, already. :)
Also, Jimmy Neutron and the Twonkies TV Special... that's a real "Brain Blast" from the past. I can feel the nostalgia, already.
This game definitely needs a remaster, the game is so good and we need more great games like this more these days.
@CipherRage0909 yeah I can agree not every remaster is good but there are some that have been great like medievil and spongebob bfbb, it really depends on the company and if there gonna be lazy or not.
@CipherRage0909 Idk what Sonic Colors Ultimate has to do with Attack of the Twonkies being remastered. There are plenty of modern remasters and remakes that clearly have lots of care and attention put into them, such as Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated (which is probably a better comparison for Attack of the Twonkies considering they’re both licensed Nickelodeon THQ games, compared to a completely unrelated Sega game).
@CipherRage0909 sonic colors ultimate isn't bad anymore thanks to the updates you guys requested
Can we please get a shadow showdown remaster too?
And then if both of those remasters do well, can we get a jimmy and Timmy power hour game?
This game was my absolute jam as a kid, this is a real childhood classic for me.
You don't really see many people talking about this game so it's really nice to see it finally getting some attention.
29:21
This game encapsulates everything I love about licensed games, it may not be the best game, but it captures the feeling of the series immaculately.
You need to review the Tak trilogy rad! Tak and the Power of Juju, Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge! Amazing 3D platformers on GameCube and ps2! Amazing gameplay stories music characters writing and voice acting and personality! Masterpiece of a trilogy!
The only one I had was the Great Juju Challenge, and unfortunately I had no one to play it with. I wish I had played the others tho, they seemed more fun
There’s actually a fourth game. Tak: Guardians of Gross. I used to own it, and it also had a random episode of the show on the PS2 disc as bonus content. Felt pretty bland to me, only problem is the fact that the final levels are pretty tough, which led to me never beating it. I was still a kid so expect me to have sucked at it.
@@FlameOfUdun96 there amazing track down copy’s of Tak 1 and 2! Tak 2 is my favorite! It’s got an amazing soundtrack! I’m trying to get the attention of THQNordic so they can remake them! Tak was on there remake list! Spread the word around so THQNordic can see the demand :)
Didn't the game have it's own show on Nick too?
@@douglasthequilava no that game doesn’t exist! It was garbage! Play the amazing original trilogy! Jason Marsden is Tak!
It's not often we are graced with a licensed game that truly understands and respects the source material it's being based off of, and this is no exception, and the vast amount of one-off inventions the player can make is a nice touch, even if they are sometimes both limited and situational, they really went for more of a quantity over quality for the inventions for the game.
Also, this isn't necessarily related to the video, but seeing that purple GameCube upon putting the disc in really makes me more interested in getting a purple variant that I already have been, I'm tired of having all my gaming consoles be a somewhat generic black color.
Honestly, the whole habit of sleek, black, professional-looking consoles has always been a bit boring, and it's kinda funny that, at the very least, Sony is _very slightly_ stepping away from it with the PS5 bein' a Seto Kaiba lookin'-ass
And I guess there's ⭐Special Edition⭐ consoles too, but typically those don't [or rather, really shouldn't] appeal to anyone who already owns the system
Which makes me think of how funny it is that Nintendo, while it has a habit of being somewhat laughable with the strength of its hardware [and its public relations], almost always seems to be good about breaking the mold with the design of its systems
Like, you compare the N64, Gamecube, Wii, and Switch to its competition and they really stand out, to the point that, while all the ones whose names don't start with a W were never really the best-sellers, they're sure to not be forgotten
And then there's the WiiU, that will only be remembered for failure, I fear the day I become one
I think I remember my first gamecube being a purple one. Either that or it was black. I dunno. For some reason, when I think of the standard color of the gamecube, I think of purple.
@@robertkovarna8294 The GameCube we have was basically a hand me down, so, there was no choice in what color to get, plus, this was when the GameCube was no longer being sold in stores.
The color we have is a black GameCube, and it came with the Game Boy Player, but not the disc for it.
@@NanaKyoto Ooooooooof. Having the gameboy player without the disk sucks.
@@robertkovarna8294 I did eventually get the Game Boy Player startup disc earlier this year, as well as official component cables for the Nintendo GameCube, which, trust me, were not cheap in the slightest.
I never really put much thought into title screens and menus until watching your videos, but it totally makes sense and is really cool the way you highlight them, since they're really the first impression you get of a game and the level of care that went into it
Games like this remind me why I loved many of the Nickelodeon games growing up, not all of them were good but many of them really felt like you were playing in the world of the show. I loved this game but I remember being disappointed that there was no way to replay levels in this game because it was so close to the show, I just wanted to spend more time in each area. I probably replayed the game more times just for that reason alone.
I remember playing this one when I was a tyke. What a throwback.
Hey, I know this isn't the best place to put this, but I always admired how sincere your videos feel! It's really cool to see someone do an in-depth breakdown on games that most people would brush aside, or would just briefly talk about every game in a single shorter video. But also, I know ya probably won't remember this, but back at Hal-Con 2019 I asked you for a bit of advice on how I could try expressing my views of games in video format (If this rings any bells I was cosplaying Yu Narukami from Persona 4), and while I still feel I'm trying to figure myself out. Seeing new stuff from someone who gave me the push I needed. It really brings a smile to my face. ^.^
We actually have this one at home, I remember liking it, but being disappointed with the final boss and the lack of replay (something the Ape Escape series lets you do). I'm surprised you didn't mention how the Bat Outta Heck ride was it's own level, but it was just a cutscene.
I would always hate not being able to replay the levels. The only way to do it was to start a new game which sucked very much
Why mention Ape Escape here? 🤔
And are you saying the Ape Escape games has bad bosses or replayability?
@@MektigeTHOR I think they meant ape escape let’s you replay the levels and catch all the monkeys in a level again. Twonkies doesn’t have that
@@captaineli2461 Oh.
I love the Ape Escape series and watch Nitro Rad's Platform videos because their really entertaining and good.
Clearly I didn't get the thought behind that comment. Was hoping for it to be explained by the user. Thanks for hopefully clearing it up.
I really, really am happy to see a childhood game of mine get talked about in a good manner that's both fair, and critical. I remember replaying this game over and over and over as a kid, because it hit the right notes for me and made me happy to replay it over and over.
Jimmy Neutron really makes you FEEL like Batman.
I can’t be the only one who remembered it as “Attack of the Twinkies” this whole time 💀I had so much fun playing this on the PS2 as a kid tho
Attack of the twats
@@polytanksan5761 twinkies
@@michaelmoss9198 missed the joke entirely lmao
I have only vague, at best ambivalent memories of the show, but it's delightful to see the joy the accuracy of the game brings to a bigger fan like James.
The Tv Special alongvwith this game truly takes me back to my childhood.
I swear, I always get so excited when this guy appears in my subscription box. There's just something about his "energy" (for lack of a better word) that I just resonate with!
I heard a lot of Ape Escape in this video; a coverage of the series would be fantastic to see on this channel.
As for this video, it's always great to see callbacks to your previous videos like the Frogger mention as well as those little personal experiences you slip in. It's great when you get a licensed game that captures the charm of it's property, and if 22:49 is any indication, the humour is as hilarious as the animation is as on-point.
I would absolutely love to see a series of Ape Escape videos. Ape Escape 2 was my childhood!
Honestly I wholeheartedly agree with the stance on licensed games, you can only see so much of a setting regularly because it’s limited to what the writers let the viewers see and explore through the characters, whilst games can let you look through every nook and cranny to your hearts content and that’s why I’ve always seen licensed games in a more positive light
Despite not being an avid watcher of the show, I did appreciate it's humor and cg whenever I did find it on tv. This game seriously has some great production values for a licensed tie in and looks like genuine fun given I'm a fan of the gameplay style. May have to pick this one up for the hell of it, great review as always NitroRad!
I’ve loved your entire Jimmy Neutron marathon but I’ve been excited as hell for this one especially, this was my childhood on GameCube and I’m happy you enjoyed it! Definitely the best of the Neutron games, I’d spend ages in the arcade because of how fun it was. Solid as always man! (Also I’m so happy you mentioned the special being like Gremlins, maybe I’m on the wrong part of the internet but whenever people mention the game or special I never see anyone talking about that? Really awesome thing I personally enjoyed hearing you mention)
I only ever played the shitty GBA game as a kid, I didn't even know there was a GCN version of it until you started this marathon. Very interesting stuff!
Did you get past level 20? I could NEVER get past jimmys lab!
The GBA version wasn’t shitty. It was pretty alright.
I can confidently say that Nitro's channel is now my favorite of all the video game essay ones. The golden standard by which I measure the rest now lol
I wish they would make a current gen Jimmy game that looks like the show
I mean they make rehydrated, theres Still hope
If they make a new one, they should go with Rachet and Clank-style gameplay but have the gadget use be like Arkham for solving puzzles.
At this point the graphics could be better than the show...
I wish for more wishes.
I Got SLAPpED with nostaliga seeing this pop up in my feed! Its gremlins and I love it
Nitro! I have no idea if these are out of your range, but I would love it if you covered the clue finder series! I have yet to see ANY ONE cover these learning games that I grew up with and I feel you would give them the jutice they desirve!
Literally one of my favorite games as a kid. I played this until the GameCube disk broke and would only let me past the first part until it would crash.
@CipherRage0909 damn, wish I could still get it on GameCube. Guess I gotta emulate it. Lucky bastard lmao
This game I actually played quite a lot as a kid. The Retroland level was my absolute favorite, and I loved the homages to classic video games in the arcade.
New nitro rad video? Gotta blast!
1:40 hearing the sims bustn out music and seeing this game again opened and huge crate of nostalgia for me. Loved the review!
Oh man this game was favorite Nicktoons game when it came out growing up, it's one of the few games I can quote word from word even to this day lol.
I just love your enthusiasm about this game and this show, that was such a genuine smile on your face at the end.
I'm glad ya finally got the chance to play this, it's one of my childhood games and it's truly the best Jimmy Neutron game ever lmao
Just found this.. thank you, for a very real review from a person who actually played it AS A KID. Much appreciated. (from one of the devs)
Yeah, generally when a game that's based on a special episode of a series, the game starts preproduction roughly around the same time the episode starts preproduction. Team usually gets a rough summary of what the episode is about and general assets and such from the series as a whole. Then as the episode goes through production, the team gets more and more info as the episode gets set in stone. Still doesn't explain why Cindy is based on her movie model though, series already had 2 seasons and multiple games. Don't know how that kept getting lost in translation.
Never watched Jimmy neutron but it's been really fun seeing you talk about a series you're passionate about. I swear you could make a video about anything and it would be interesting.
This game is one of the few licensed games that I’ve went back to and felt it was still as good as when I first played it. It’s really impressive.
14:38 The casual "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" delivery of this line was fantastic.
Man glad to see this game being covered, this is the best Jimmy Neutron game that was made and I know cause I played it as a kid, very fun and definitely filled the Jimmy Neutron void in game form I was looking for at the time.
Oh man I've been waiting for this one!
Edit: finished watching it,another great video as usual! can't wait for the next one!
I loved this game so much as a kid. Even going back to it recently, I still found myself having a damn good time! Found a lot of the jokes stuck better this time around lol
this got me ordering myself a copy.
as a 10 year old. I only had jet fusion. and I loved it despite how odd it was. just cause the creation of the weapons and using Goddard made me feel like I was a step closer to interacting with the cartoon. i may not be a 10 year old anymore. but at least as an adult I can appreciate it through the eyes of what a developer would be thinking
My one major gripe with this one is no level select. Still, man this was a major nostalgia blast. 🥰
The golden age of licensed games, yeah a lot of them sucked but every once in a while you got a pretty good one and it just transported you into whatever property flawlessly. Kinda miss it, even if most of these titles were shovelware.
Simpsons hit and run is a good example of one that's really good!
@@MasterSorez Battle for Bikini Bottom too
This is my first time really seeing this game and WOW! The in-game animation is so fantastic, incredibly polished!
Really wish you uploaded more but I also get it you are a human. Just love the videos and have been here for like 2 years.
Yeah! Nitro Rad with another Jimmy Neutron vid! Thanks man it was awesome (:
I love looking at the background of the video and finding all the different bionicle stuff. It's great
God, this is such a nostalgia trip. I bought a GameCube this year to relive my childhood and replayed this game a few weeks ago. I hope you review Nicktoons Unite, as that game was also nostalgic.
Attack of the Twonkies was the BEST game growing up. It was just hard enough to be challenging but also fun at the same time. The settings and colors are so vibrant and memorable, the dialogue is genuinely funny, and the missions are so fun without becoming repetitive. The music is great too!! Just love it so much!!!
Dude, this is the only channel I love so much that I watch every video immediately and never skip the adds.
There's something about the word "Twonkies" that just makes me say it in M O N K E meme voice
Let's Goooo! I'm excited to see how this video turns out! Really like your videos!
One of my favorite games of all time. Shot you a sub :) Glad to see more people cover and appreciate this game that means so much to me.
Have you ever covered the Ape Escape franchise on your channel? Feel like I've heard you mention them a lot, maybe now would be a good time to dive into those ones. Great video as always. I look forward to your old school videos, reminding me of games I had as a kid that not a lot of people talk about these days.
He hasn't done the Ape Escape games, but AntDude has done all three of them.
Love ape escape would love a remaster
I’m sick in bed and have been binging your jimmy videos for hours; I love your laid back vibe and it’s helped soothe me back to sleep to catch up on all that I missed. You’re a great youtuber man, keep up the great work
For a shamless advert for a TV episode that was a shameless advert for this game, it's surprisingly good.
Now if only I could finish it one day. My disc is messed up.
Clicked on this so fast, one of my childhood games, fav games, really underrated game in my opinion, up there with like Tak and BFBB in my opinion, love this game, so happy you're reviewing this, needed it as times have been rough, thank you!
between rescue jet fusion and Jimmy Timmy power hour this was my favorite special/ game
Tips on the bosses here:
Playground- Use the teetertotters to launch the super invention into its head.
Frozen Lake- Launch the pucks at the barrier and burn both its feet to make it fall, then shoot its face.
Rollercoaster- IDK, try getting directly under it.
Played this game as a kid and loved it.
I remember really liking the GBA version too as a kid. Really happy to see you still like this game!
Man, while I didn't watch Jimmy Neutron all that much when compared to other shows, it was one show I always loved to watch! Seeing a kid making all these inventions, like the gummies that make you super smart on a specific subject, or the robo-salesman, or a day rewinder so that every day would be his birthday, or when he was building a ton of toys to keep his dad on a job so they don't have to move away, it was a really cool and creative show!
All the characters were either weird or funny or interesting in their own way, and the entire town was full of interesting places... though the concept of exploring Retroville in a video game never came to my mind. I was still unaware of the concept of licensed video games. Never really saw the specials... But I do remember having watched the movie... on a rented DVD even, I think!
Aw man, rental stores, there was one that was really close to my home, our go-to place for renting cool movies and stuff... but the place closed down about 10 years ago.
Not surprised at how high-quality this game is after finding out it was handed off to the same studio that made the amazing Spongebob party game Lights Camera Pants.
no way, i loved that game as a kid :D
The little black and white scene with you jumping around was SO smug and I absolutely love it, by the way!
thanks for the nitro rad episode I love the way you make them
You always make my day when I see an upload from you man, just got such a chilled out and positive view on games. Gonna be a nice half hour!
DUDE I remember playing this on ps2 when I was younger I never finished it but I remember having fun thanks for the nostalgia
This game was GOATed.
Honestly, if they made a modern Jimmy Neutron game in a similar style to Ratchet & Clank I would be all over it. Lmao
Why must you unlock these memories from the deepest crevices of my brain?
Thanks. Good video.
Thank you for another great video Nitro!
This game was so much fun when i was a kid, i really hope that nickelodeon allows for a remaster of this game. It was made by THQ and THQNordic have been pretty competant with their remakes, so it’s be cool for them to do it. And considering that the show was literally made with prerendered materials, they could probably make it look exactly like the actual show.
3:05 Hugh's dummy actually becomes a villian in a later episode. This was meant to be the Chekov's Gun for later
Finally! I was waiting for your return to the Jimmy Neutron games xD
- V.D.
fun fact! that twonkie that escapes at the end of the special shows up from time to time in the background of some scenes. i remmeber seeing him in some epsiodes and always getting excited cause i loved that special
Hey dude, thanks for making this series! A huge callback to my childhood. Will you be doing the Fairly Odd Parents and Spongebob games too? I’d be curious to see your take on Shadow Showdown and Revenge of the Flying Dutchman
You know the one thing that made me feel really smart one I was younger. For the first Boss you can launch the invention into the boss if you use the seesaw to launch it.
25:50 I love the attention in the animation that looks like the pose Jimmy does when he’s explaining something I think in the show if that’s what he’s doing in that scene amazing
Waited so long for this one. Worth.
Twonkies sounds like a slur for an extraterrestrial being
Those announcements of each level remind me of the intros for the shorts that were made to promote the movie, like Cookie Time or Hyper Corn! I bet it was fun for Hugh's voice actor to be the narrator again for a game.
The little animation with the boxes and little cartoon nitro rad was fucking hilarious
The best part of this episode was Nitro Rad gushing about Jimmy Neutron.
I watched as a kid too! Maybe I should watch some of it again...
This game kinda feels like a “Directors cut”, of the special.
I had this game as a kid and oh my god it just did so many things right. I was super excitedly waiting for you to cover this game when you started this series and it is a brain blast revisiting it!
I just wanted to say that this video explained something weird I’ve always thought. Whenever I’d see a walk cycle like the one in this game, I’d always think “Jimmy Walk” and I could never figure out why, but I guess I completely forgot about this game but somehow remembered Jimmy Neutron’s walking animation for some reason.
Just beat this game a few days ago and I never even knew about the spin jump, lol. And for the monkey on the ceiling fan part, I probably spent 30 minutes thinking some special gadget or invention was needed to get the him off the fan just to see the button on the wall lol. Overall great game though, I really enjoyed it
20:49 Hey Nitro, this could actually be a reference to when the pilot episode and a few Jimmy Neutron shorts had an announcer for them.
Happy holidays Nitrorad!
Super funny seeing someone else talk about this game/ I had it on my PlayStation 2 and played it so much. It has been years since I have played it. You reactivated a sleeper agent lol.
i remember seeing the special on tv and didnt know there was a game till i woke up Christmas. always loved the game. but i also remember the twonkies hung around in regular episodes. u could see them hiding in shelves or say good bye at an end of an episode, i think there was one with jimmy and cindy when they were stranded on that island together too. so many good memories growing up but i also know that the shows animation was practically held together with duct tape it did not age well xD
