New guy here! everyone calls me by my last name... Lewis. Love the small details. The tradition, culture and history is as important to me as the smoke itself. I dug this video's lack of hype and phony enthusiasm often present in cigar review videos(not naming any names). It took me a while of searching and unsubscribing to a few other channels and I think I'm gonna be staying with this collective. There's no LEADER forcing everything. Everyone is very courteous (few exceptions but too few to mention) Like Roger's funny and Mike's background Matt's nose ALL unique, different angles, this perspective helps a new guy like me make decisions about very wide and diverse industry (with much hype i.e. Gurka etc). It helps to break down what to look for next. Background on the views of the smaller boutique companies etc... Great stuff! I'm not quite ready to dive into real Cubans yet, but this was very insightful, so Thank you! The vid was straightforward and honest. Authenticity in a world of really phony, arrogant know- it-all type cigar 'experts'. I much prefer this style. You and Roger and the rest of the people in this group of enthusiasts are truly different than the usual pack. So glad I found you guys! Cheers!
Hey Lewis! Thanks for the kind words man, I’m happy you found the channel and like it. It really means a lot to me. I love this community and happy that I get to meet others that enjoy it as much as I do.
I’ve heard other reviewers say the same thing, bro. Being that the government regulates the cigar production in Cuba doesn’t allow for a lot of different flavor notes. I mean I know they do have some different tobacco but for the most part it’s got to stay the same as when the cigars were made back in the day. I guess the experience would be that you are smoking a cigar that was constructed the same exact way for many years dating almost early 1900s. As always amazing content this review was fantastic and the added touch of the Cuban coffee was the icing on the cake. Cheers Brother!!!
Yeah man, I agree it’s one of those things that you want to experience it for yourself and I feel super lucky to have been able to try it. Don’t get me wrong, I’d try more however I’ll never understand those guys that say they only smoke Cubans because I feel like they’re missing out. Thanks for watching brother!
I agree and disagree. I would not judge cuban cigars overall just from smoking one cigar. I've had various, not so good and very good ones. Just within the past two weeks, I've smoked several cubans, that were vastly different. From Juan Lopez to Por Larranaga to Bolivar. A wide variety of flavors. Although I have to say, quality control issues are not that uncommon, I'd say there is a specific flavour with cuban cigars, that I haven't been able to get with any new worlds (and I love my Olivas & Plasencias). With cubans it's much more common to have to put them away for a bit until they are really enjoyable, as they sometimes arrive with much lesser age on them than most new worlds. Cheers!
@cigarsidechats Cubans are what I smoke 90 percent of the time because they just have this certain unique taste to them like the montecristo no 4 just has this unique sweetness, but I do enjoy new world cigars as well oliva , padron, my father, davidoff. At the end of the day Cubans are not "better" its all preference
As a Canadian we have easier access to Cubans, at an insane price point. I have had maybe three different brands. I found them to be consistent in the flavour throughout. The H uppman half corona has been my favourite cuban so far.
Great review, as always, man. I agree they're not super exciting. Some are better than others, though. Cubans have a general flavor profile I do enjoy from time to time, so I do try to keep a few around. But they're not my go-to.
Thanks Mike! Exactly, it was good and consistent but I don’t get the crazy hype but again I’ve only had one. If anything it made me more excited for new world cigars haha. Appreciate you watching man!
I got some cubans recently and a gift from friends since I started our podcast, I didn't smoke it yet because I want to do it on a review on the channel. I'll definitely come back here and let you know my thoughts. Reason why I haven't smoked them yet, or at least one of them (I got 4), is because they felt a little on the too dry side. I'm regulating their humidity and I hope it's not all ruined.
Great review bro. The only two cubans I can recommend so far are the Montecristo No 2 and 4 and the H Upmann Half corona. Unfortunately they really only shine with significant age on them. I have a few Cohiba robusto I am looking forward to trying but the price and hassle on all cubans just really turns me off.
Good review. I've only had one Cuban, the H. Upmann Magnum 46 and it was bomb from what I remember. Not over the top flavor but smooth smoke and creamy. I think Cubans can be a hit n miss cause production is rushed but a authentic aged Cuban is great from what I've heard
I’ve heard that “modern” Cuban cigars don’t compare to the new world makes, but I’d still like to try one someday. I’m not that far from Canada but I hear they’re way overpriced there. (?)
I am surprised you thought this cigar was mild. Bolivars are known for being at the heavy end of the strength scale, their Petit Coronas being around a 4/5. No way would I describe it as boring. I think this is a cultural thing.... Americans tend to like monster, flavoured maduro cigars. The Cubans, especially in this vitola, are a bit too subtle for you! Personally, I only smoke Cubans, with one exception being Davidoffs. Anyway, thanks for the review.
That’s fair Kevin, it was the first Cuban I’ve tried so maybe my expectations were unrealistic. It was enjoyable and I look forward to trying other Cubans but living in America it just isn’t worth hunting especially for the price. I did however enjoy the vitola, what’s your go to Davidoffs? Thanks for watching!
@@cigarsidechats You may want to try a Trinidad, or Cohiba, or a Partagas if you can get them.... they are also at the stronger end of the scale. I agree, Cubans are insanely expensive, especially here in the UK with our crazy taxes. I cross the Channel to Belgium to stock my humidor. Prices are about 75% cheaper there, so its worth the trip. Cheers.
@@cigarsidechats Re the Davidoff, I prefer the Churchill range. I like my cigar enjoyment to come in around the 30 minute mark (much less is not enough time to contemplate life / much more I find can be tiresome). So that really means the Petite Corona size. For you, I would suggest one of The Late Hour Davidfoffs (they come in various vitolas). They are pretty complex and powerful.
$7 is a deal! As long as it’s enjoyable that’s all that matters. Sometimes the expectation is set high especially for us in the U.S. which shouldn’t be the case. Thanks for watching!
I have a Cuban I haven't smoked yet but I'm guessing it's not actually that special, not when you have all these companies competing on a global open market and going bananas on tobacco growing and production. Socialism doesn't do anything better, why would cigars be any different?
What people fail to recognize these days is that the hype around Cubans comes from pre-1991 Cuban tobacco. After the blue mold plague, everything changed. Not to mention, the best of the best in cigar making and tobacco farming fled Castro's regime. NW cigars are infinite in flavor profiles. Why chase Cubans? I'd suggest everyone try one if you can, but if I'm being all the way honest, the MF Connecticut is a Cuban, but better.
Chances are this is a fake Cuban. There are many of them and unless you really know Cigars you wouldn’t be able to tell. Real Bolivars tend to be full body strength and on the heavy side.
I guess you’re implying I don’t really “know” cigars because I didn’t get the same profile as you. As far as if they are fake take it up with @soysauceassin. The Cuban cult makes me want to play in traffic. Thanks for spreading joy on the channel ❤️

My first cuban was the romeo y julita no 2

I’ve heard a lot about the H up man, What does the average Cuban go for in Canada?
One of my favorite Cuban. I stock up when I go to Cabo San Lucas J&J La Casa del Habano. Love the hay note and earthy.

i'd take that coffee over the cigar!
Wow bro 😂😂
😂😂 all I need is a Cuban coffee and a pastelito and I’m ready to take over a country!

I pretty much smoke exclusively Cubans but recently discovered Padrons which are very very good
Great video Felipe
Thanks JB! Happy new year brother
@@cigarsidechats Happy New Year to you too
The royal corona is so much better with more leather and twang. Thanks Felipe
Gonna need to add that to list man, thanks for watching Keith
i got one for 7 bucks in a shop in berlin, no hassle to get lol. There's no magical expectations.

Yeah bro most Cuban cigars are rolled too tight. I had a Ramon Allones with the same results. Good review brother 🙏🏻
So I hear man! That’s crazy, appreciate you watching Hugo
Second
First
I just got 18 Cubans and I’ve smoked 4 of them.
All 4 of them have been rubbish!
Not worth the hype.
Probably fake

Thank you for your insight. Cuban’s are all hype. Enjoy your channel, keep up the good work! 👍
Thank you for watching Mickey! I really appreciate that

Cuban cigars MUST be 1. Original 2. Aged minimum 3-5 years. Yes, they are overrated so leave them for those who knows how to enjoy them.
Yeah, I’ll leave it to the professionals. Thanks for watching!
