Thank you for your work and for your words. I study music and sometimes I feel like music is worthless in todays societies, but then I read this kind of words and I remember how important it can be.
The baby was fine until Ólafur started. The parents did try to move but KEX was rammed so moving away was somewhat difficult, I felt sorry for them. Tip: If you have a small child don't sit at the very front.
@@loebie This. I have a 5 month old, parents need to accept you don't get to do all the things you used to anymore, some environment it is not fair to others (or your kid). Have the other parent watch the kid or a babysitter or just don't go. Frustrating when parents seem to refuse to give up anything from their old life or believe they can integrate their baby into everything they used to do.
I saw Sigur Ros not long ago and TONS of people had their babies. It was actually awesome. Definitely wasn't as intimate as this show though. Maybe it's an Iceland thing ;)
Surprised many are hating on the baby crying - if it was over powering then yes would be annoying … and as a musician can see how it would have been a bit off putting with such a quiet piece… but… really thought it added to it! This is on my download list and actually now tune into the baby which brings out lots of emotions, one of which .. when you have a baby and he/she is constantly crying you would give anything for them to stop.. But when you no longer have that baby you would give anything to hear that cry again.
The microphones they used for this are so wild that even the little creaks in people's chairs felt like they were coming from my own office and not from my headphones! Crazy!
Apparently Olafur used to worked as an audio engineer for some time, and he does his own micing/recording/mixing. His live recordings sound on par with the studio versions.
I'm wearing excellent headphones and I kept looking over my head thinking something was happening in the room with me. Yes the audio recording quality is very good.
'Put your hands inside my heart and pull out all the dreams, the hope, the longing, the pain; then make it into notes, play them out...let them sing a vulnerable song of endurance, of despair, of desire - and here it is, the sound my heart relates to, the sound my heart sings when it's alone.'
Dear Ólafur, I really feel your music into my soul. Also, I admire your empathy, such an authentic person. Thanks for giving us a glow of light. Gracias por esa bella música.
Alfian Ahmad , where in Indonesia exactly ? Do you know that MINIMAL MUSIC composers like Philip Glas , Terry Riley , Steve Reich , the great John Cage , Debussy were inspired by gamelan music ? Gamelan music inspired many classical music composers.
I took my headphones off for a second...i live in an old New England house. Im sure a few babies lived in here before my grandparents were born. No ghosts, just someone bringing their baby to a piano concert.
First I heard the baby through my headphones and ran to the kitchen, I believed my daughter was choking, is this recorded in 8D or what? My heart is still racing...
I thought the same about my children, who were sleeping in the sleeping room "Are there my kids?" I was repeatedly taking off my headphones to check these sounds, where they were coming from
An incredible musician and a true source of inspiration for myself and my children. Thank you, KEXP for making this possible some 10 years ago and thank you Olafur for what you have been doing. I've got all your vinyls in my collection and enjoy your masterpieces.
I just happened to watch.. no, *experience* it while living on an abandoned farm, birds chirping in the yard and a cup of fresh hot coffee in hands. Life is beautiful. Takk fyrir.
Love his playing, it's ethereal and just beautiful to listen to. I love how he makes the piano sound. Thank you for this; it's 5 years old and I've just now heard it! (from Sandi)
The baby is more natural I suppose, adds more feeling than air conditioning, either that or it would be pretty awkward if he stopped and asked the mother to shut it up with 20 minutes left.
I suspect that he raised the issue of "noise" to give a subtle hint to the parent that the baby was annoying, without specifically asking for the baby to be removed from the premises. He has more patience than I would!
Whenever I listen to your music I feel so deeply connected to existence. Thank you for your magic. 🙏 It's been a few years now and it gets me everytime. 🥺❤🥲 So wholesome. So ethereal. 🌌
Wonderful time to listen such beautiful music. Nyepi, what a great concept, which becomes our daily-lifes now during COVID-19. May the darkness vanishes quickly and people learn their lesson deeply.
Fernando Alv Greetings KEXP, from Mexico City, Mexico🇲🇽 ️ ️ all your transmissions are the best, God bless the collaboration of each person in that place... that's OK???
Love Ólafur! ❤️❤️❤️“We (human beings) are really horrible” and i think a good osteopath who knows how to do nerve techniques can help your spine condition!! Thanks for your contribution to music even sacrificing your health! 🙏🏼
It’s hilariously ironic to write a song about a day of silence that moved you. Great performance. Glad KEXP always delivers with exposing me to new art
14:09 the story behind "Nyepi" which was written in Bali, Indonesia. Telling a story about Balinese's holiday which was celebrated by being silent, giving Mother Earth a day break from human activities. Enjoy it! ☺❤
He has 3 pairs of them. 2 in america, 2 in europe and 2 in his studio in iceland. It would be too expensive, complicated and not environment frienldy to transport them across the oceans. You can find him talking about it here:) -> ruclips.net/video/FnKTwPDsDiU/видео.html

Since my spoiled dog died, I have been sad, and I found Arnalds by chance and he gave me a certain tranquility and serenity with his music
"Can we get whatever that noise is turned off? I think it's air conditioning or something."
It's a baby. Definitely a baby. I've heard one before.
:DD
me la ganaste perro jajajaja
haha... I thought the baby was a genius add on in the mix to pull you towards the emotion of new life.
He didn't mean the baby though. There's some white noise in the background.

i cried like that baby the first time i heard an olafur performance

In the music of Olafur Arnalds, the always unattainable supernatural Beauty is so palpable...
Thankfully we 'll always gonna have music, even in the darkest of times..

Nyepy + Doria is just amazing, A real masterpiece
Ja, ich verstehe. Auch ich habe angst um die zukunft meiner kinder und enkel. Aber ich bleibe möglichst positiv🧚♀️
The transition to Doria... Pure magic!!!

The baby crying at the start adds something to the piece that I really appreciated. Ones noise is another’s music.
