Probably the most underrated player to play with the Lakers, based on skill, but particularly because of how long he was with them too (the Lakers had a lot of great players pop in for a season and then soon depart). He was one of the Lakers' most reliable and highest scoring players during the early-80s. He was wicked at the baseline.
Among the most "low-key" star players the NBA ever had. Wilkes' entry into the pro basketball HOF was well-deserved. People forget he was a crucial piece to the championship puzzle for Rick Barry's Warriors in 1975 as well as the early Showtime Lakers (Kareem, Nixon, Magic, Cooper) in 1980 and 1982, respectively. Could easily play with the ball or off it, shoot with high efficiency, finish in transition, pass, rebound (often played PF in his prime!), and was an excellent defender to boot. Was a 3-time All-Star, but definitely should've made that honor at least two more times (1980 and '82). Legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden once was asked what he considered to be the perfect basketball player. He proceeded to run off a detailed list of traits and then tops it off by stating, "Why not just take Jamaal Wilkes and let it go at that." Quiet as kept, THIS is the player Brandon Ingram should study closely if he wants to become the level of player he knows he can be in the pros whether he remains a Laker or not... >;-)
Absolutely, I thank God for Veo if not for him we would not be able to reminisce and come here to see these guys. I'm 54 I love going back seeing these guys he is one of those guys that could have played in any era...salute to you Silk
My favorite all time UCLA player, my late mother was so thrilled when he returned my call back in the 90’s, she said he was very pleasant, he’ll always be “young Keith” to me 💯
"Silk" did so many things well - he had a good low post game, Jamaal was an excellent shooter, he filled the lane on the fast break well, he passed well, moved without the ball, played good D... You get the picture and that's why he's in the Hall of Fame.
It's crazy I read he had an unorthodox jump shot, but I shoot the same and it works perfectly fine hard for people to block and especially if you get enough lift and hang time. I always was a knock down shooter, but my cousin showed me to shoot like this. It takes awhile to get use to if you have been shooting a certain way your whole life, but it helps when being closed out on or guarded up close. Keep your eyes on the rim and follow through. It's a beautiful thing I know Jamaal feels the same way.
I don't think I ever saw him dunk the ball, always a layup around the hoop. They outlawed the dunk when he was at UCLA. Smooth as Silk. Also remember when he was in high school in Ventura and the family moved to Santa Barbara people were pissed...thought it was in bad taste. Think the school was Dos Pueblos or something like that, A great player by any stretch. Even in the pro's he never dunked,
The all time lakers are my Fav 2k team and Jamaal always comes from the Bench and always puts on a show, very underrated i should say,one question i have is he has a gold posterizer badge and lob city finisher in 2k,is there any clips of him throwing it down in real life cause in the game he's virtually unstoppable once he rises for a yam
He is not one of the 75 greatest players . wow great two way player and he won championships everywhere he played. UCLA, GOLDEN ST. THE LAKERS. WHAT A SNUB!!!! I LOVE YOU SILK.

He is one of my all time favorite NBA players!!!
17 ppg career averages in a league full of greatness is really impressive.
He played with class.
That's exactly what my dad use to say and he named me after him when I was born in 82
Watching undisputed with Snoop Dogg brought me here, Silk had that he got game jumper😎
20-foot layups, as Chick Hearn used to call them.
That's just what I was gonna say! I miss Chicky Baby Hearn.
Silk lit up in 1980 Final Game as well....did it all....almost like Fletch...
Met him in 2007, great guy.

Yeah he dunked
ruclips.net/video/y5SaZcko3D8/видео.html Jamaal Wilkes dunk at 5:31
Yeah he could dunk and had solid hops. He wasn't a candidate for Magic Johnson alley oop dunk passes, but he had some springs.
Nice job picking the perfect music score for Silk Wilkes
Another gem yo this must be a different channel I subbed to you in 2008 when I first came around bro...
Thanks bro and Yea this is my new channel.

Wilkes was recorded as 6’6” in height. He must be much taller than that.
He was very good but essentially pushed out for James Worthy.
