    Thanks for posting this! Love to see folks already starting to mod their Ionic 6's.
    One thing I've thought about for my (future) Ionic 6 is if it'll be possible to 'relocate' the USB-C port to a more 'hidden' spot. I don't mind the 'wired' part of CarPlay/Android Auto (more reliable, charges faster) but it's quite irritating that Hyundai put the USB-A port in such a visible spot. :/ Would be nicer if it was hidden (like the other power-only USB-C ports are) so that only a single cord to the driver's smartphone would be visible.
    Small thing I know but curious if you've given that sort of mod any though Ed?

      As a matter of fact, I have. But for now, There would be just be too much involved in disassembling the entire console in order to get to the back of the existing USB-A plug.
      But what I would essentially do is pull that plug inside of the console, and run an extension cord from it to a new plug inside the armrest or something like that. And then simply cap off the hole.

      @@edsgarage001 Very cool... would love to see the process if you ever end up trying it. Still so surprised that Hyundai chose to design the interior that way. Frankly, it's one of the only things I don't like about the car.

      I absolutely love this car... But there's a few things that bug me about it.
      Within the next week, I'll be doing a 10 likes vs 10 dislikes video.

    Super glue and sodium bicarbonate to reglue the plastic clip should work better than jb weld.

    Good Video as always, I just got my Ioniq ^ and its a great car so far. I noticed that the ambient lights are always on, they are not controlled by the head lights or light censor in the car. Would you know if Hyundai plans to address this with some kind of software update in the future. I think its a oversight myself. Thanks

      There is some control over them in the vehicle settings .. for instance, you can have them dim at night automatically, or change colour depending on the drive mode. But yes unless you completely disable them, they're on all the time.
      I find that even at max brightness that they're not bright enough at night to be a bother though.
      Have you adjusted their settings at all?

      @@edsgarage001 Hi Ed, yes I have adjusted them, even at full brightness I have no issues at night with them, I really enjoy the look. I was concerned about running all the time and having them burn out. Everything has a life span. It could of been a option tied to the light sensor. I had the car for a few weeks and the AWD in winter with remote climate is life changing comfort I will never want to live without 😁

    • @edsgarage001

      LEDs last pretty darn long, should outlast the car several times over.... They generally don't burn out. Though they can become de-soldered from their respective circuit boards, but that can actually happen regardless of whether they're on or not.

    I thought the android auto dongle needed to plug into the USB -A port above.
    Is that wrong?
    I was going to pull down the bottom of the front of the console and route that USB down.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Год назад

      No that's not wrong... But in order to have the Android Auto dongle shut off when the car is off, I needed to run it's power connection to something that's switched off.
      The USB A port is always powered on in hyundais.
      It'll still work the other way... But the dongle will just constantly send out a WiFi and Bluetooth signal. Which ends up being annoying if you're inside the house and it's constantly trying to connect.

    Looks lovely but I assume it doesn't sync with the others? What would it take to make the colours of your light strip sync with the rest of the cars ambient lighting?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Год назад +1

      You're correct...
      In order to make it sync up I would have needed to disassemble more of the vehicle and I wasn't prepared to do that at this time.
      My guess is that the ambient light strips probably use the same 12 volt 4-wire system though, so I don't imagine it would be that difficult. I just didn't want to pull everything apart to figure it out.

      @@edsgarage001 I wanted to install a LED strip matching the other colors in the car. However, it might be more complicated than I expected.
      In the doors at least, there are only 3 wires to control R, G, B… up and down. I mean 3 wires for at least 6 channels. The voltage on those wires do not seem to vary when I change the color.
      I would have thought they would use a wire per channel, and change the voltage, but that is not the case. The color might be selected using a controler in the door itself, in each door actually. Or the colors might be encoded in the signal though the wires, and then split for the up color and the down color. This is crazy.

      @edsgarage001 hey, looking for some advice, please. I got one of the lovely woodgrain trims for the centre console of my Ioniq6, unfortunately it does not fit because bizarrely the cup holders are off centre and change to the other side for rh drive models, like mine here in the UK. Any idea if is possible to rotate the cup holder unit by partial disassembly of the upper console? Thanks

    Where did you run the wires for the dashcam?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Год назад

      From the dash cam, first along the front edge of the headliner. Then around the A pillar and then down behind the rubber seal for the door. Then into the passenger footwell area behind the kick panel on the right, across to the center partially under the carpet.

    I don’t understand why someone would want to add more ambiant light. The first thing I do in a car that comes with ambiant light from factory is turn it off. At night I want to see what’s going on outside my car, not inside. We already have to cope with the bright touch screen that can’t be made dim enough when driving on a dark country road at night. Now I know why everybody wants brighter headlights, there’s so much light inside the car that you have to add more light outside so you can see where you’re going 😂

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  Год назад +1

      Meh,
      When I'm sitting in the driver's seat my leg completely blocks all the light under the console.
      I don't have a problem seeing outside.
      If it's not for you, that's fine. But I love it.
