iRacing - Best GTE for IMSA?

- In this video, we will be comparing the 4 cars in iRacing's IMSA series GTE class: the BMW M8 GTE, Ferrari 488 GTE, Ford GT GTE and the Porsche 911 RSR. The car that's best will be used in season 1, 2020.
I hope my observations and conclusions will help the next driver to choose whats right for them.

Nice vid. Small tip for next time youre making these kind of videos. If youre saying lots of numbers, then display them on the screen. It listens a lot easier if you can also confirm it by eyes

great vid! just a suggestion, try turning the virtual mirror off in VR. VR is all about immersion and the VM kills that. relying only on the real mirrors gives it an amazing feeling
For sure! Unfortunately, with IMSA I needed to turn all the graphic settings to low to get a locked 90 FPS and it still would stutter on occasion. Especially on the newer tracks that haven’t been optimized. This was part of the reason I switched to a 49” Ultrawide last season. Thanks for the feedback!
I am a FGT user and TBH the car is really fun to drive，the car feels like those v8 supercars you just need to give it time. and the fgt had a decent brake and rotation once you‘re on its limit but if u go over it，that’s it… The only complain that I had with it is also its brake，it is too edgy and snappy，u just could not afford to go over it（BTW I have all of the gte cars expect the 911）The M8 has the longest braking distance in my opinion，the only thing make it strong is its top speed and the car can somehow turn，as for 488，it used to be strong and drives like a dream，it will forgive u a lot which might give you some bad habit such as too much input etc… the car is not strong any more but still it can do whatever u want it to do

My favorite GTEs are the BMW and Porsche; but I have found the Porsche RSR to be faster for my driving. My favorite GT3 is the M4. For GT3 I have switched a few times between the Porsche GT3R, Lambo, AMG and M4.

thank you for the test, i bought the Porsche 911 my first season with IMSA, even tho i had a blast, i realized the car is very slow compared to other cars in most of the tracks (not all) so ive come to the conclusion that now is a good time to buy another one.
im still undecided between the 488 and the m8, both feel more "solid" than the 911, but the ferrari even more so, still i dont want to make the decision just based on whats fastest, but still retain an element of fun to drive, im strongly leaning to M8 after this video...

I just back on the service after taking a few years off. I used to like driving the 488 a lot, so I planned on using this car in IMSA, and holy crap. I don't know what it is, but I have a super hard time driving. I'm just using a tweaked default setup, and can barely muster a mid 1:32 at interlagos this season, and that's if I can do a lap without spinning out. Very frustrating:(
Ya, I know what you mean. It’s a couple of things: the Ferrari got a few balance of power updates in the last 2 seasons. The biggest change is the new tyre model. They updated it for last season and it’s garbage. I did the first 4 weeks in IMSA but gave up. It’s bumper cars for the first 3 laps. Not fun at all. I was hoping they would work on updating it for this season because of the bad press they got from the real world drivers criticizing it, but they didn’t. I’m staying away from the GTEs until they do. I’ve heard great things about what they did to the GT3s this season. Maybe you should try the 488 GT3 in the VRS Sprint series instead.

The balance of power is way off this season... the current ranking is #1: BMW, #2: C8, #3 488, #4 RSR. The BMW is the clear winner. The C8 is by its self in 2nd, then the 488 and RSR are really close, but the 488 edges out the RSR for the 3 spot. Hope this helps!

Gets Iracing... Immediately uses ford GTE... almost keeps up with my friends racing for years but spins and understeers alot. Thinks, wow, their cars must be easier to control i dont suck this bad right? Well... yeah it all makes sense now lol

I was right, still gonna work on my mistakes and learn to drive it better cuz when I did get things right I was surprisingly quick and ik when it comes down to it its not the car but how u drive it
If you're still class D though then the BMW is the only choice.

After the tyre model and BOP change, I think you’re right. I switched over for a few races at the beginning of this season. I wish it sounded cooler. Nothing beats that Porsche.
This is true I believe the ford and Ferrari are both very easy to drive the engine is very boring sound in the ford the PorscheSounds awesome
